Hey there "King of Rock n Roll websites." I had asked you earlier in a seperate thread, if maybe Journey and/or Frontiers were using you as an ambassador of sorts to leak the music on your site. I am serious about this, as I have read Neal Schon likes you and you are very good to the band, not meaning "kiss ass" just meaning fair. I think that's all the Band really wants anyway. So, are you kind of "employed" by the band?

Thanks Andrew. by the way, where is the new water for us blind sheep?? hint hint.

Hi Deano,
Hope to have a preview lined up soon.

As far as your main question - the various labels featured on the frontpage are all sponsors as far as paying for banner ad space and CD Showcases to feature their product.

On occasion, I have indeed been used as an impartial, or non-involved third party (outside the label and artist) to leak or feature new music to create an advance buzz - Promotion is my game, so that happens from time to time.

Sometimes I have printed an exclusive bit of info from a source - not naming who that source is, with the news actually coming from the band :)

In fact, one cool Journey story....way back in the early days of this site - maybe 2 years into running it - I had already established good terms with Jon Cain (and later on Neal)...talked to them on the phone etc during the time when they were trying to sort out whether Steve Perry would agree to tour or quit the band.
They told me things I kept off the record (as I ALWAYS do if requested) and gained their trust (something I don't take for granted).

Now, I was in regular contact with Jonathan, and happened to catch him on the phone the very day Steve Perry agreed to quit the band and had signed off on the paperwork allowing the band to continue without him.

I said could this be announced and he said not officially (that will follow shortly), but it's true, so you can say something - just not quote the band.

So I was actually still working a full time day job at the time and had used the office phone to call Jon up for an update :)
I was standing there with the exclusive of a lifetime (at that point) and had to get it online ASAP!
I called my wife, who happened to be at home on a day off and talked her thru adding the HTML and text to my frontpage to announce this news.
It was pretty simple – in large bold letters across the top of the page read:

Journey – Perry Out!

And oh man….did I get some attention from that – and some abuse! I wish I had kept the e-mails from some of the Journey fans that wrote me! As it was not yet announced officially, or anywhere for that matter, I got some real hate mail…some seriously agro messages from upset fans.
Some of it was pleasant, but some was so funny – like “you don’t know what you are talking about you &^%$^& *^$@$ *&%$* etc…” or “you are so full of **^%#%$&*^$$” etc….
But I sat there reading these messages, knowing the info had come straight from Jon and laughing – wishing these people knew exactly where the info came from at the time.

I think it was 3 days later that it was officially announced. I got one or two apologies, but not many more!
But, my site got a substantial boost in traffic from that – I went from 300 hits a day to 1000 a day and that number never declined (now it’s 15,000 a day!)

Ok, that’s about it – hope you enjoyed this never previously told story!!

Now that I have truly finished "talking you up" Andrew, where is our next sound clip? You know I'll have the damn CD in 5 days anyway, so I just may steal your thunder and start my own Journey site!

I am playing with ya...You are the best. Thanks.

Uh, I will get the entire CD, at opening night in Irvine, right?

What a GREAT story Andrew, thanks for that! I had not discovered your site at that time...it must have been soon after though, I actually started visiting your site before I really got involved with the Journey site!

Keep up the great work!

 Andrew, do you know any of the local concert promoters over there? You should convince them to get Journey booked to play some Australian dates! Are you coming back to the states to catch a show this year?

Anyone who says you don't know what you're talking about doesn't know what THEY'RE talking about!

Andrew, I was reading about Duran Duran playing Live 8 and was wondering if you know of any interest or non-interest in bands like Journey, Def Leppard, Styx, etc. playing at one of the MANY locations?

Actually, it is more accurate to say "What NO Perry did for this place". After all, it was the report that he was no longer involved in Journey that created the hits...

Jrnyman,

Yes, the news of Perry not being in Journey anymore created the hits on the website ...... BUT it was certainly very clear that fans were NOT HAPPY to hear this information that Perry was no longer in Journey. anymore.

I know that I was sad, when I found out that Steve Perry was no longer in Journey!

That is stating the obvious.
No one but Monker was "happy" about the situation.

Kiss my ass PF. How is it sucking up? I paid 35 bucks to this site. did you? I am speaking the truth in saying Andrew puts out info that is heard first, legit, honest and clear, and oh btw, he treats us to sound clips early on. Suck up? Hardly...

Please don't start any Perry BS in this thread....Steve chose to quit the band...he signed a contract agreeing to that.

We were all sad to see him go - but he is GONE! Get over it.

PS. Don't give shit to Rockndeano...has has been straight forward with his posts from day 1.

Wow, Deano gettin' love from the man himself! In the same post where the Perryheads get chastised. Way to go, Deano! That's a three-point shot AND a foul!

LOL Deano. I just like it when the "heads" try to start something and immediately get put in their place by Andrew. Like Andrew said, "We were all sad to see him go - but he is GONE! Get over it." Let's discuss the new clips without mentioning irrelevant past members, whether it be Perry, Tickner, Dunbar or Rolie!!!! Let's look ahead instead of in the rear view...

Dude, NIG, I can't stop laughing at these stupid "talking heads." Too funny. They all sit around, all day, trying to conjure up some new stupid bullshit to throw on here.... I don't know why they are wasting Andrew's bandwidth....But you know what, they help me with my pent up problems.. I look at it this way. I get to come home from work, "try" to read their ascinide posts, and just unload on those "heads." It's fun sport.
