Look Deano! I promised to give an opinion and I did. I highly doubt that some of you will state how you really merit this song. Any little crumb is going to make some of you go OOOOOhhhh and AAAHHHH at this point as you want something, anything, new from the band but I can afford to be objective and honest.

It's just more of Arrival music and the vocalist has to strain to be heard, as per usual. He ends flat at times but I could be wrong I'm not Jesus Christ!

You got to be fucking kidding me? You, honest? Look, I could have written this/your post last Wednesday when it first came out. It wasn't that hard to figure out that your post would hardly be positive. Strain to be heard? Another Einsteinian quote. Pretty soon, you are going to run out of stupid-shit comments, and I hope you disappear like yesterdays grass clippings. You really piss me off.

Oh, and by the way, I know you aren't JC..You are some rag, who lives in negative darkness, probably a fucking cave stocked with ding dongs and wellbutrin. Get a fucking life.

HOTS, I respect your opinion. I would just like you to elaborate a bit on your opinions. How is the song monotonous? And do you really think a vocal track of Augeri singing flat would make it past the engineers, producer, and musicians? My ears don't hear it. Does anyone else think Augeri sounds flat?

The overwhelming opinion that I have read is that it is a throwback to Frontiers era Journey. Sorry you don't like it. Maybe it will grow on you.

I don't and frankly, I don't know why you would either.
HOTS has been pre-biasedly ragging on this album every step of the way (from the announcement of the title, to the multiple vox thing).
Why are we now supposed to take her word for it that she has turned over a new leaf and is being honest and objective?
Sorry. I just don't buy it.

She has been baselessly negative since day 1 and as I predicted, she continues to be so.

TRANSLATION:

If the song was sung by Perry she would deem it "catchy".
Since its done by Augeri it is denigrated and deemed "monotous".

Please don't feed this troll.
IMO, her relentless bitching is monotonous.

I don't like your implication that I am somehow being anything less than totally honest with my opinion here.

If something sucks then I will flat out say so (i've done so on several occasions).
It's been my experience that so will every other Journey fan that I've encountered here.
Froy, for example, has emphatically made it known repeatedly that he thinks Red 13 was trash.
Many fans have registered a similar opinion.

We are fans, not brainwashed zealots or pom-pom toting sycophantic cheerleaders.
If we don't like something, then by god, we shall say so!

Although only a minute soundbyte has been released, it's already obvious this song sounds positively nothing like any track off Arrival.

I don't hear it.
And I am not a blind follower. I, like NC, have no problem criticizing when I deem necessary. However, this is not the case based on this clip.

You "doubt" that some will 'merit' this song. I merit this song. (If that makes sense) I think this is a good song (based only on a 2 minute sample). This may not be a 'great' song, but the tune is catchy, the vocals are right up front, Neal has returned to melodic guitar playing. These are the things I like. I don't like how much it reminds me of Ask The Lonely, but I love ATL so it sounds good.

heardonthestreet wrote:Any little crumb is going to make some of you go OOOOOhhhh and AAAHHHH at this point as you want something, anything, new from the band

That maybe true for some, but not me. And not most of the regular posters on this site. I DO believe it is more accurate to say that there are certain fans who will automatically NOT LIKE anything new by Journey, as opposed to saying certain fans will automatically LIKE anything new by Journey.

heardonthestreet wrote:but I can afford to be objective and honest.

Just let me know when you start...

heardonthestreet wrote:It's just more of Arrival music

WHAT? I don't hear that at all. But, then again, I liked Arrival...so it wouldn't bother me much. If this is compared to Arrival, but with better production and better track listing (not too many songs/too many ballads) than that works just fine for me.

heardonthestreet wrote: and the vocalist

He has a name, feel free to call him Steve.

heardonthestreet wrote:has to strain to be heard, as per usual.

WHAT?
His vocals are right up front!! They fit perfectly among the instruments. Everything sounds equal, like a group.

Is it possible that you are basing this on the poor quality computer speakers in your monitor (or something similar)? When I listened at work, there was way too much treble, sounded tinny. So I only paid attention to the melody and lyrics. When I listened at home, with the subwoofer and good speakers, the song sounded much fuller. Much better!

heardonthestreet wrote:He ends flat at times but I could be wrong.

YES, you could be. I will listen again to see if I notice that. So far, I do not!

heardonthestreet wrote:I'm not Jesus Christ!

No shit!
Oops, I hope JTroll doesn't come out and get mad at me for swearing...

I looked forward to some objectivity. I don't think I got it.
But, this is only a 2 minute clip, there is so much more to hear. To be honest, it is possible (although completely unlikely) that this is the best part of the CD. We only have a taste, I definately think it is good enough to keep eating...

I have to add some more 2 cents in here after I unloaded on HOTS... I notice JRNY28 and NC say most of the posters on MR are objective, and are not "followers" for the wrong reasons. They don't include me but I think I am one of the more honest sum bitches on here. I thought Red 13 wasn't all that, and yes, I could back to some classical era stuff and also point out shit... Remember the Perry tunes, "Baby I'm Leavin' you?" How did Neal sign off on that one?! I am willing to bet he is still having nightmares because of that tune. How about "Back Talk" or "Positive Touch?" Those are not good songs....

However, Ask the Lonely was, Arrival was good if not solid, and this new tune sounds as good as both..... Trust me you, if something comes out, whether it be from Journey, U2, Rolling Stones or God himself, I will call shit, shit.

I don't hate HOTS, but I hate her attitude. To me, she is lying in wait, ready to ambush ANYTHING Journey-minus Perry and give a dumping crap to it. Look up the word HONESTY in your local library, HOTS....

Truthfulness, to be honest, forthcoming.

I have been honest. I have said many times Steve perry sang into a microphone better than any living breathing soul alive, and that is still where I stand..and it happens to be the truth.

I hope Generations shuts your fat mouth ..for good!!

I listened to the clip again, specifically to hear Steve 'go flat'. It is just not there. I cannot hear it.

Now there's a shocker! There is nothing flat about Steve singing "The Place in your Heart. Get your hearing checked. The song is awesome. It actually rocks. Steve is sounding awesome. The album is coming out, despite your feeble attempts to stop it. The tour is just around the corner. Journey is back!

Your opinion isn't worth a bowl of rotten cherries.

Now go take your Wellbutrin and eat a Ding Dong.

Just heard the song in it's entirety. I got lost on the chorus..it changes lyrics, but still..very nice. The guitar solo was very Message of Love to me, but then Neal plays another solo later on, and it;s very melodic...

Very nice effort.

I just heard it too, Deano. WOW. There is a lot more to the song than just the sample we got. I really feel like this is the best Journey song since the Frontiers album. I hope they release it as the first single.

It's def. up there.
However, ROR, TBF, and Arrival, while not flawless albums, all had some great material, as well (interspersed between some very trite maudlin garbage, mind you).

While I would never use the word "Garbage", I agree that there is good material and not so good material on EVERY Journey CD. But this CD seems to be shaping up as a very consistant and good CD! And I will hopefully know more by the holiday!! :D
