Thank you Andrew for giving us a sample of the song "Brand New Start" by David Pack & Steve Perry for us to listen too.

I REALLY enjoyed what I heard of the song! It sounded REAL GOOD!!! :D I can't wait to buy this cd in August. I have a very good feeling I'm going to be listening to this cd a lot! :D :D :D

I second that! Thanks for posting...waiting with baited breath for the album. Ambrosia rocks and to hear Pack with Perry, Wilson and others will be amazing.

I have to say that when I heard "The Voice" come in during the pre-chorus with the line "shades of forever..." I couldn't help but break out into a big ol' smile. The pre-chorus harmony had Perry's fingerprint all over it...very ROR-like. Perry's contribution to the chorus is undeniable and he sounded great in the high harmony! Someone mentioned over at Backtalk that they had heard the whole track and that Perry was featured even more prominently in the rest of the song. Can't wait! Thanks again Andrew!

Yes, Andrew is the greatest. Thanks, Andrew.

Sounds like a great start to Perry's adult contemporary career. I could hear that song on that kind of station.

I'm a skeptic in that he's reduced to being part of an ensemble/backing singer or someting.

I want a new SOLO record album from him. Sounds from his backing vox that he still sounds good. Why not a new solo rock album?

I cannot comment on the clip since I have not heard it yet.
But I think Perry likes stuff like this because it is just what "moves him". There is no stress, no worries, just feeling. I hope that is evident in the song....feeling!

It's on the front page jrnyman28. I found it hard to make out Perry very often in it. I hope he is more prominent later in the tune.

Yeah, I got it. I just hadn't been to the front page at the time but wanted to answer the idea of his background vocals.

OK, now I have listened. My computer speakers SUCK at work so I will listen again when I get home. But I LIKE it!! I think Perry does a lot of harmonizing behind Pack in the song. I agree that it gave me chills to hear him come in on his own. It sounds good to me and I hope the song gets some actual attention. Sadly, I expect there to be about as much 'interest' from radio for this CD as I do for "Generations".

Did anyone get a definitive answer on whether or not this is the same song that has been hinted at for 3 years now? It would atleast bring us a little closer to how Perry sounds "now".

Packs site has 2 other clips up from the album. sounding real good.....

I am looking forward to the whole deal now!

Those who have heard the entire duet with Perry/Pack say Perry is even more prominent elsewhere on the song?

Perry's camp HAS been threatening this for about 3 years, 28. You're right about that. Though I'm disappointed I can only disern him in the BG VOX, it does sound good and is good to hear him singing in any form.

I've heard the entire song, thanks to a buddy who saw David Pack live in New York a week or so ago. She was able to purchase the CD there at the concert, and got on the phone to me to let me hear it.

Signature Perry singing on it, definitely more of Steve later in the tune than early on (what Andrew has up and running). Unmistakable and fantastic. I also heard the entire Title song "Secret of Moving On" that David does with Ann Wilson, and that, too, is fantastic.

I'd venture to say the CD is for the 'soft-rock or jazz' stations, but should get great airplay.

I just listened to the clip that Andrew provided....

It is such a shame that Mr. Perry hasn't done a solo project. From the little bit that was available to listen to, it is by far apparent that "The Voice" is as beautiful as ever....

WOW! That sounded great, is very cool to hear Mr. Perry doing something new, even if it is just some background work. Can't wait to hear the whole thing. You're right 28, there is nothing holding him back and I will join you in the hope he does do something in the near future. I thought he sounded great.

Heard it.

I found it kinda frustrating to tell you the truth.
Its nice that he is singing on something (anything) again, but since he is on background vocals (with his vocals sometimes audible and othertimes not) its almost like a gigantic tease.
You kinda just want him to leap out, push Pack aside, take a hold of that mike and show him how its really done!
Anyone know what I mean?

I'd prefer hearing his vocals as I, and the rest of the music listening world, are accustomed to; directly front and center.

Nice, gentle tune, regardless.

Just Perry lending some vocals on a friend's album.

Well somebody was talking about the gloriuous sound of the voice being back and his fingerprint being all over it and it being remniscent of Raised On Radio. I plead guilty to perhaps being misled by that. I had to crawl under my desk and put a stethescope up to the speaker to figure out when Steve came on.
I want him back, too just not in Journey but doing a solo RNR album.

Solo album~yes. But his RnR days are over!
Maybe he could do one of Rod Stewart's American Standars CDs...or a tribute to Sam Cooke!

I heard Steve as soon as he started singing....

Like I said in my earlier post, "The Voice" was as beautiful as ever....

My only hope is that he does record another solo project. But, whether he decides to or not is a decision only he can make. I can respect whatever that decision may be.

Mr Perry: It's great that you have helped a few people record some music. So why don't you do what has already been posted on this board: Grab the mike, push everyone else aside and show 'em what it takes to be a real pro!

P.S. I'm a fan of Dave Pack's also...and looking forward to buying the cd!

Fans have been pushing this idea for years now. It's a natural fit, really.

Also, Sam Cooke has a lower range than Perry. Even IF Perry's voice can no longer sustain protracted periods out on the road (as some contend), I think doing Cooke covers would be fairly easy for Steve to handle night after night etc.
Certainly easier than those vocal triathlons better known as Journey songs.

(This is not mean to be a bash of Perry or his talents in any way, so for all of u misconstruing it that way, save me the bullshit and please go kill yourselves)

Michael McDonald attained a modicum of success with his motown cover albums, can you just imagine how good Steve would be with that material. It doesn't just have to be Sam Cooke, he'd work wonders with intrepreting any soul classics.

I think you may be referring to my post and I'm sorry if I misled you in any way. I heard "the Voice" just as soon as it came through but then again I sing and record vocals and have studied that voice fairly extensively so I'm probably a little more sensitive to it I guess? That and David Pack, while possessing a very strong voice in his own right, does not have such a distinct voice as Steve Perry. The ROR reference was pertaining to the production technique applied to the backing harmony during the pre chorus and full chorus, especially in the pre chorus. Layer upon layer of strong yet semi-raspy vox, complete with the "oohs" and all, is something that I really appreciate on ROR and is clearly something that Steve Perry brings to the table - hence his "fingerprint".

I was a tad-bit excited so I guess I could have been a little more restrained in my description but couldn't help it. It had been too long!
