Radio Revolution!

There needs to be a big revolution in the world of radio IMO! Some of you who are DJ's (does that term even still exist), have to be getting tired of the way radio has become so corporate! I always go by hope that eventually a company becomes big enough to monopolize whatever service they are in, only to find competition is what kept them in the game!

I remember going to a radio station a few years ago. My friend was a DJ there. Except, it wasn't a radio station, but a building that housed several radio stations. Moreover, each "station" was one small room with this big computerized machine that was usually on "auto pilot." Occasionally, you might see someone go in there and give a weather report, but that was about it.

I say radio stations need to revolt, play honest to goodness rock -n- roll, and heck - bring back the vinyl! How much longer are we going to be surpressed to the corporate dealings in music???

I don't even listen to radio much, except for sports. I learn about new music that I would be interested in from mr.com and other internet sites.

Sorry Angie, but the truth is hard if not impossible to deny(GWB is sure trying though)...Terrestrial radio has 5 years left of life.....You better hitch a ride on a satellite train, or you will be selling perfume and lingerie at the Pierre SD, state mall.

Screw nostalgia. Satellite has a million stations, every genre, unedited comedy, all four major sports, Nascar, golf, and Howard...What more could anyone want?

I didn't mind the commericals, but back when I was in my early teens, I would listen to the radio all day long. Sometimes I would listen to the radio up until the wee hours of the morning. I was addicted to music - mainly because they were playing some good stuff back then. I tuned in every night to listen to the "Top Eight at 8." I had gotten to know the DJs pretty well and knew what times they would be on air and so forth. While certainly they kept the current stuff in rotation, they didn't just play that stuff.

I was also big into MTV, because back then, believe it or not, they actually played music videos! I was all about music in my teenage years. But, I guess as a person gets older, they start to appreciate the retro stuff a little more. Don't get me wrong, I think the satellite stuff is great (although I haven't signed up for XM yet...) but I guess I'm going through this stage where I am starting to appreciate how things used to be more.

For instance...I am wanting a new record player bad! I'm wanting to start collecting records again. I've been programmed into digital recordings for so long, that I have forgotten how rich and warm analog recordings sound.

I here you Greggie. I was Raised on Radio and LPs. I still have most of my collection of them(some original Beatles)and I've added to them through some flea markets. I'm afraid it's all in the past though.

Record players are becoming quite popular again. Baby boomers are terribly nostalgic (sorry Deano). I'm all for progress, but I am happy that I have functioning record player. Keep the faith.

I hate to break it to you, but this little multimillion dollar set of radio stations in SOUTH DAKOTA makes more then your little train set does in a month. $500,000 a MONTH on one station alone. I'm gonna chime in here and say that the radio that we know and love, the radio we grew up with, is dead. BUT, broadcast radio will continue. Sattelite and iPods are not going to "kill" bradcast radio. I DO hope they will cause some changes though.

Broadcast radio needs to go back to more "character" DJs who have musical knowledge, taste or opinions. And radio needs to get more freedom within the playlist. I understand that every hour there will be specific songs that have to be played, but if they could alot a certain amount of time to be DJ discretion it would help tremendously. Example: 6 songs an hour scripted, 4 songs an hour open to the DJ. Could be requests, could be DJ pick. The only requirement should be that the music fits the genre. If the DJ has knowledge about the songs he picks, stories about the bands, whatever, it will be more interesting for the listener.

It's not dead, it just changed, just like the radio our parents grew up with had evolved from when THEIR parents listened. Am/Fm, genres. Like anything else, radio evolves to fit the times. And like anything else, not everyone thinks it is how it should be.

The radio we grew up with does not exist today. Yes it evolved out, but it does not exist anymore. Therefore, the radio we grew up with is dead.
