You really hit the nail on the head there, tragchk! Paul certainly does put a new angle on the songs which makes them sound refreshing. I'm neither syaing that the Rodgers versions are better or worse, just different.
For me, I think it works due to two factors, 1) as we said, Rodgers sings the songs in his own style without trying to carbon-copy the originals, and 2) the choice of songs they decided to play. As we all know Freddie was gay and Paul Rodgers was always very much the macho frontman!...Some of the more flamboyant songs of Queen's catelogue just wouldn't have worked, so they stuck to the more hard edge songs that suited Paul's voice.
The tour got rave reviews all over the globe which pretty much made the minority of "non-believers" on the Queen boards a non-entity (which seemed to piss them off all the more!!), and that's the way it is on this site. Journey continue to sell tickets and still seem very much in demand on the live circuit, despite what merely a handful of posters on this board has to say, and i'm sure that's the way it will continue.
