OT Tell Me Where To Go!............

Postby Moon Beam » Wed Aug 02, 2006 3:34 am

No not like that folks.....
I am California bound in 11 days and aside from
seeing the Journey star and hitting the Viper Room
as well as a baseball game on our first day I want
some ideas of good places to visit.
Forget Disney, I want no reminder of me
being away from my kids and kids is the last thing
I want to see while I am on vacation.
I will be traveling from L.A to San Fransisco in
the nine days I'm there.
Any ideas on good food or nice places to see
hook me up folks and I will be grateful muchly!
Thanks everyone :D

Ahem.......... MoonBeam.......... you will be seeing a kid if you girls come up to see me ! LOLOL ! Anyway...... lets see...... where to go visit. If you will be going to SF, there is Chinatown, Pier 39, Fishermans Wharf. There are other sites in SF, but I can't think of them right now.

For LA........ hmmmmm........ it has been a long time since I was there, so let me see if I can remember anything. Besides the Star, you might want to see if any of the major studios do a tour of their facilities. Go to the Beach. That is all I can think of right now, Moon, but be on the lookout for Brochures at the places you will be staying, or ask the front desk. They can give you some good ideas. :D

Well, if you're driving up from LA to SF, you'll definitely want to stop in Monterey and at least check out the aquarium. Cannery Row is also a good see in Monterey. Santa Barbara's pretty nice. Both are pretty expensive, and likely to be crowded with tourists this time of year, but hey if you're being a tourist it's OK! Hearst Castle in San Simeon is fantastic (one of these days this native will actually go visit!)

Once in San Francisco, you'll definitely want to hit the main tourist spots -- North Beach, Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39, Coit Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, etc. etc. (you can actually visit the Journey Past & Present website here for a list of recommendations we've put together.) If you want to do a tour of Alcatraz, book in advance since it gets really busy in the summer.

Journey related places to visit in San Francisco are the old Nightmare building on Columbus (one block up from the Tower Records on Bay -- I can never remember the cross street for Nightmare) which is now the Indonesian consulate. There's the Journey autographed guitar at the HRC on Pier 39. The Fog City Diner is a pretty decent eatery and site of an ROR photo shoot (last time I was there some friends found a framed magazine cover that featured Neal & someone else.) And of course, the Bammies WOF plaque in front of the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.

Don't forget to pack a light jacket -- SF is not the warmest of places to visit in the summer time!

Hey Moonbeam,

A few suggestions for ya:

Between LA and SF:

Hearst Castle, Pismo Beach, Carmel/Monterey, Big Sur, Santa Cruz

In SF:

Drive through Golden Gate Park(check out the Bison, yes, live Buffalo in the park) to the beach where you'll get a great view of the GG Bridge, right before sunset is best
Drive over the GG bridge to Sausalito
Twin Peaks - amazing view of the city and beyond

North Beach for Italian food, The Stinking Rose On Columbus St. if you like Garlic
The Mission for Mexican food, Pancho Villa on 16th Street for the best burritos
Haight/Ashbury for lunch

Have fun and say hello to my city by the bay

Pismo Beach. The town's great, the beach is great, the pier's great. My favorite place on earth.

Hit Chele's for the clam chowder. Don't buy the hype about Brad's or Splash Cafe.

Moon,

It really depends upon what types of things you want to see. Do you like the history of Hollywood for instance? What is it you LIKE?

Moondog, I thought you were meeting Lula and I for beers and pizza?

As for baseball, you would be a fool to go to a Dodger game..they are a minor league club. Go 30 miles east and watch the Angels.

Among some of Californias' gem cities that get no run in the media, are; Fresno, Bakersfield, Modesto, Merced, Orland, Barstow, Redlands, Compton, City of Industry, Indio and Cocoran...all gems....

PM me and I will give you my phone number. We'll three get trashed in Ventura on the beach.

Moonie,I told you where to go,didn't I?
As someone mentioned here ,you'd definitely want to see this beauty with your own eyes at the Hard Rock Cafe in SF,at Pier 39.

I remember I stood there in awe like a kid looking at it...Love it.

p.s.Tell Sam I said Hi and tell him to save the best oysters for me.

I'm hijacking my husband's username for a second, but I just had to butt in, lol, and say Point Lobos State Park in Monterey is one of my favorite places on earth. The landscape is breathtaking, and I often saw dolphins and whales, and could almost touch the seals and sea lions. And pelicans galore, lol.

I live in So Cal and I don't even see some of those places. :) Depends on what you are interested in.

Someone mentioned driving thru Golden Gate Park in SF & I highly suggest it. Only we walked from one end Haight/Asbury to the other end (the bay) and it was SO great. Around every bend was a surprise to see. I love riding the cable cars at night! It's been a long time since I've been there.

Do you like Classic Cars? Petersen's Auto Museum in L.A. on Wilshire is great...has cars owned by the movie stars, cars from movies (Batmobile) and whatever else they are exhibiting at the time.

Chinatown & Olvera Street are near each other and not far from Union Station (Art Deco design) and a popular Philippes restaurant since 1917 or something. But, everything is so spread out & you need to do a lot of driving (and traffic is horrendous all the time).

On your drive from LA to SF. Do try to make time for stops in Monterey and Santa Cruz. Both beautiful seaside towns. If time allows, check out the Boardwalk and the "Mystery Spot" in Santa Cruz.

Have Fun!!! 8)
