Hunsicker kicks ass again...FRONTIERS rocks!

Postby 7 Wishes » Sun Mar 25, 2007 4:07 pm

These guys get better every time. Honestly, the first time I saw them, I was blown away by Jeremey, but his guitarist at the time...by my recollection, he looked like Jim Peterik...anyway, fast foward six years. The mix was a little off (the slingers were a little muted), and they had a couple of miscues at the intros in the second set, but WOW. The guy does Perry better than SP did anytime after '83. People in the audience were crapping their pants.

Incidentally, Deano...funny shite, dude. This board would be boring without you, you crazy sonofabitch.

Did you tell Jeremey that I have written a song for the Maylee and he and I are performing it live at DCVaders' Country Ranch Fuckfest Party?

It is a quality song too. I think Frontiers might be able to break into radio with it, if they choose to get behind it.

Yes, you are correct! Jeremey and the entire FRONTIERS band kick some serious ass.

I've seen them many times and hope to see them more in the future.

My daughter accompanied me to the Frontiers show in Lynchburg on Mar 9. She's always been a casual Journey fan, but not a complete nut about them like I am. She told me on the way home from the show that she felt like she had just heard Steve Perry singing. She also said that was as close to seeing Steve Perry as I was ever going to get. I agree. We're already making plans for Frontiers' next Roanoke appearance. I think it's at Awful Arthur's.

People, I believe it is a really sticky situation with regards to selling Frontiers tunes. Not stepping on Jeremey's feet here, but I know Cain is NOT a fan, and Journey Mgt is not their biggest fan.

NO Journey tribute band should EVER sell any recording of a Journey tune. It is ILLEGAL without written permission from the publishers involved.

Hey you guys!! Glad some of you made it out to the show last night. Looking forward to getting a bootleg copy of it out there, for free. We, as well as anyone who wants to, can sell copies of us performing Journey songs, as long as we followed proper procedure, and paid the statutory fees for the songwriting. We do not sell any recordings, however, and everything we do make available is available for free download.

As far as why Journey or their management are not fans of Frontiers, I will just say that is about the most fucked up and frustrating thing about doing this. JOURNEY is specifically responsible for us not securing a 5 day stint at the EPCOT center this summer, that would have helped pay for some of my FMLA leave when we have a baby later this year. Disney required a letter signed that basically said they would not misrepresent the bands as the original artists, etc, in any advertising - Reps for The Eagles, Billy Joel, ABBA, Chicago, and Bruce Springsteen ALL signed these letters - incidentally, Azoff manages the Eagles as well. The answer came back to us as quote "Non negotiable NO." So whatever ass backwards frame of mind is responsible for that kind of bullshit really doesn't make any sense at all to me. I mean - WE ARE ADVERTISING JOURNEY'S MATERIAL. THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE SEE US EVERY YEAR, AND TURN AROUND AND BUY THE JOURNEY GREATEST HITS CDS. So whatever issues Cain or anyone else has with Frontiers doesn't make any sense to me, and is actually pretty unheard of in the tribute world. But whatever.

Oh, and it'd be different if we SUCKED.

Maybe its because you are so good and so close to Perry that its a threat to their egos? and maybe they want to put their Perry days behind them and you are way too close to what the old Journey was? just a thought. or maybe it has something to do with Augeri litigation, which makes no sense to us but maybe it does to others? :?: Whatever the reason you rock!

No, not whatever. You need to call up Azoff, Friga whomever, and get an ironclad answer as to why they object to this. If Bruce can say yes, what fucking reason does Azoff have?

I appreciate the thought, but I don't think it has anything to do with us being a threat in any way, percieved or otherwise! :P

or maybe it has something to do with Augeri litigation, which makes no sense to us but maybe it does to others? :?: Whatever the reason you rock!

There's no telling. Like I said, it really doesn't make any sense, but it goes back long before any Augeri issues. Cain calls tribute bands a "nuisance," whatever that means. I can't even begin to speculate, because it so much goes against all common sense.

Anyway, here's a bootleg of "Line of Fire" from last night! Got about 2.5 hours of audio to split up, so hopefully sometime this week I'll have the whole show on line, but for now, please forgive the recording quality...

I won't reprint the whole email here, but basically they can be quoted as saying they can't get into the specifics of who or why, but the answer was a non-negotiable NO.

And the answer came about 3 hours after I contacted Baruck. I'm not shouldering the whole blame on Journey, because anything that goes through Azoff concerning Journey may as well go through Lee Phillips first before they even look at it, and you know how that goes...

Anyway, nothing in life is easy, Disney didn't bat an eye and moved to the next band down the list (I believe a DOORS tribute, if you can believe that the Doors would agree to sign a letter but Journey would not)?! The letter would not have prevented or stood in the way of us performing, legally, but Disney is so paranoid about their own trademarks (mouse ears, etc) that they wouldn't move forward without it.

Larry, I mean larry, I was being somewhat sarcastic. Irving Azoff could have squashed me and would have, had I been telling lies...He knew he couldn't go down that road. However, something like Jeremey's situation is quite different and I am sure Jeremey has been "contacted" in a very stern way.

I don't think it's cool to sell the Journey material, but that's just my opinion. The free download thing is cool for people who want to tell others how good you are, etc. though.
