Froy, my friend, welcome to the Journey board! I agree completely (do you believe that?). I've always contended they should have hired Hugo or Hunsicker instead of Fraudgieri. Hell, Hugo does Perry better than Steve these days.

I know. I'm just more familiar with your work with Styx...

Seriously, dude. I listened to "While There's Still Time" today for the first time in a few years. Sometimes it's easy to forget DDY has one of the most beautiful voices in the universe.

Hugo is flatout creepy. By the way, he is hoarse and flat on that O Sherrie clip. Again, Jeremy blows him a way, and I like the fact jeremy has a small boiler.

Jeremy, allow me to pimp for you guys,

Dude, go to youtube.com, and type in Frontiers. Shitloads of songs come up. Jeremy has a much more powerful voice than that creepy fucker Perry wannabe Hugo.

Abosulutely. Jeremey sings the songs. Hugo falsettos the songs. Hugo should be working on a cruise ship doing impersonations with the Elvis and Sammy Davis Jr. lookalikes.

I do believe that's why Journey hired Jeff: because he is a great singer.Don't you think so?
If he wouldn't be good for Journey,I have a hard time believing that the band would have considered him.

Jeremy forget it lounge act

Jeremey is so very talented. He buries at least half of the big time famous singers out there today.
I would prefer to hear Jeremey singing in a club, than endure the torment of a shitty vocalist struggling on a stadium.Wouldn't you?

Hugo is scarry Perry he looks it and sings it

I've seen Hugo and I agree he is eerie, but it's his choice to "incarnate" Perry to a T.
I guess that's how he sees the tribute idea.Nothing wrong with that, imo.
He is doing a good job, really entertaining.

I have not seen Evolution live (yet - AR, we need to schlep to NY) so I will reserve judgement on who is better. But Hugo does creep me out in the clips. Hugo seems to do an impersonation, while Jeremey and his band do a tribute. Jeremey is also a chameleon who can sing many different styles. Anyone check out his site when he posted the link a while back? Incredibly talented singer.

froy, go here: http://www.journeytributeband.com/audio.htm#

and listen to some of the songs from the Charlotte show. Fantastic.

I gotta agree that Jeremey sings rings around Hugo. Hugo has a very good voice and does a great Perry impersonation, but in the clips I've heard of him on here he doesn't have the power and soul to really deliver the songs in Perry style. Jeremey does.

Hugo seems to always sound as though he's in a telephone booth. His voice isn't very powerful, either. He seems like he'd be the better choice to imitate Perry in an "unplugged" set. His voice just isn't strong enough to pull it off with a band behind him. Jeremey on the other hand has PLENTY of power, range and stage presence. He doesn't creep around like a wanna be, either. Singing like a guy is one thing, but trying to look like him and study his every move is just plain disturbing. Their is little competition between the two.

Musically, both Evolution and Frontiers are comparable. Speaking of vocals, though, it's not close. Jeremey is the stronger singer. Yes, Hugo does sound and look more like Perry, but his voice is thinner and the looks just add more to the lounge-like atmostphere of their show. Frontiers gets the nod as the better band.

Gotta agree here. I've had the pleasure of seeing both Frontiers and Evolution, and my vote goes to Frontiers.

Gotta say, Hugo is a dress-up karaoke version with not much lung power. I guess he makes no bones about being a walking, living, Perry Doll. Slightly scary though...

Jeremy, from what I've heard from the boots can probably sing in the style of most top line rock singers. He really can sing. As with all musos who decide to make a career out of tribute acts they lose their vocal identity early on. I would love to hear how Jeremy would sound on original material, if it exists and whether his voice would have its own identity, or whether too many years singing SP has left too many habits and inflections in there?

Is there any original material....?

For that matter, there is even another cover band out there that is better than Evolution...Lights, with my bud Jeff on keys and Juan Del Castillo on vocals.

Here's their version of "Faithfully". Juan has a great voice...

There are 4 clips on their myspace page, located here... http://www.myspace.com/lightstribute
The clip of "Stay Awhile" on that page is especially good, in my opinion.

If I find more on Youtube, I'll post them.

As far as Hugo the guy looks like Perry and sings like Perry
You try to look like Perry and don't so just be yourself maybe it would be a better fit.
I have seen bar bands do JRNY material and the look is not what sells me its the sound that they put out,
I have seen Perry with JRNY many times 50 or so and to me Hugo is close not perfect but close.

You're way off. Judge for yourself.

Hugo and Evolution doing DSB (voice is pretty thin)

Jeremey's voice is way stronger.

You saw Journey with Perry "at least 50 times"? Holy crap! How old ARE you?
