OT: My injury - anyone else had this?

Postby AR » Tue May 15, 2007 11:33 am

Anyone ever gotten "mallet finger" aka "baseball finger? Hurt myself catching a football over the weekend. No pain. I see a specialist on Thursday. The ER doctor was encouraging since there was no break, but I will be wearing a splint for awhile. The one I have now with an ACE bandage sucks, but the smaller one in these photos I will get look a lot easier to deal with.

Probably a little less "AR" around here for awhile. (That should please some of you - LOL) Typing is a pain.

Is your finger very stiff, but without pain? I've done that. It had something to do with smacking the tendon or nerve or something pretty hard when I went to catch a baseball one time. It hit pretty hard where the lowest part of the finger meets the actual hand. My damn finger was stiff for about a week. I could bend it, but it felt very weird :?

It is the tendon. Can't straighten it. I had ok mobility, but now with the splint it will be stiff for awhile. At least it doesn't hurt. My baseball team loses me for 4 to 8 weeks - which is unfortunate. Driving is an adventure, so I am working from home for a few days. 1 handed driving is just not a good idea.

Will do SJ. I never see doctors, but I sucked it up and went this time. ER physician was cool and said I did the right thing. The specialist will help with recovery. From what I have read and been told, it is just a matter of keeping it straight for a long time, then regaining flexibility.

Sounds painful. I've had tendon problems in my foot - YUCK. Follow all the doctor's directions or it'll be way worse. ;)

Doesn't hurt believe it or not. The splint is annoying, but no real pain.

Hey Ed, Dubrow says to stop being such a winey bitch. j/k

I did that to my finger in jr. high. Wore the splint for about three weeks, it was stiff for another month or so, but hasn't bothered me since. You'll be good as new in no time.

I'm sure you are right. It is more of a pain in the ass than anything else. 3 weeks would be great. I just want to get back to my baseball team.

Hey everyone, I have a hangnail. Don't know if I can deal with it tonight I tell ya. Need your prayers.

Dude, you have got to be shitting me? A boo boo on the finger? I am going to ask Lula if she has an extra skirt and heels to send you. Seriously, I cannot believe you put this up here. Man the fuck up already. If you were to catch the ball with your fucking hands, you wouldn't need a bandaid.

No, not back, just shocked at my man's pussification. Take a vicodin and go to work. You work in an office dude! And driving with one hand is dangerous? I drive with my fucking knees, air drumming to Keep on Runnin, all the while balancing a 32 oz super gulp cup of coffee and putting in eyedrops at 70 mph.

Somewhere there is a basketball or better yet a soccer team who needs you Ed.

Hammertime!

I've never had it, but it looks like it'd hurt. I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but my Grandfather used to have it. It was never straight as long as I knew him. He obviously didn't do anything about it, but I suppose since he was a carpenter for many years, it's a possibility that's what it was that caused his finger to be that way.
