I always thought
Mother Love Bone was a pretty
unique name. And I remember
an interview back in the early 90's
where lead singer Andrew Wood was asked,
"Why the name Mother Love Bone?"
He answered, "Cause Journey was already taken."

It's a shame ol' boy OD'ed. That first album
was pretty good. then again, we wouldn't
have had Pearl Jam so it evens out, I guess.
And FucK All Y'All that don't like PJ.
I don't care what anone says, PJ is one of
the all-time greats.

I had some buddies I used to jam with back in
the early 90's...
We called ourselves "Taint Chap"

Does that count as unique?

You know, if you think about it a lot of the band names that we've become accustomed to would sound weird to us if we weren't familiar with them.

Beatles? BeeGees? Cream? Blue Oyster Cult? There was even one in the '60s named "?".

How about this band? They changed their name about twenty times...each one as unique as the last....

First it was:

You’ve Got Foetus on Your Breath

Then...

Foetus Under Glass

Followed by...

Phillip and His Foetus Vibrations

Foetus Over Frisco

Foetus Art Terrorism

And...

Foetus Über Frisco

Then in 1985:

Scraping Foetus off the Wheel

In 1988:

Foetus Interruptus

And later that same year:

Foetus Corruptus

In the 1990s they became :

Foetus in Excelsis Corruptus Deluxe

And...

Foetus Inc.

Before finally settling on simply....

Foetus

Er...maybe that was more than any of you wanted to know....

There was a deluge of ANDY GRIFFITH themed band named in the college town where I did undergrad (and played in a band meself for awhile!) including:
Dancing With Ellie (from an episode where Andy goes, you guesed it, "dancing with Ellie- KuILLER band, btw)
The Fun Girls from Mt Pilot (self explanatory, if you know the show)
and my personal favorite PIPE DOWN OTIS

But perhaps the greatest band name I've ever seen was on a van I passed on I64 not long ago...wait for it....

JIMMY WALKER, TEXAS RANGER

I almost peed myself!

Agreed, Carlitto- btw Pearl Jam's original name? MOOKIE BLAYLOCK, after sorta-famous NJ Nets point guard of the same name.
