I find it VERY ironic that Perry has NEVER said ONE bad thing about any of his former band members...EVER. The man is the epitomy of class. I dare anyone to find ONE word ill spoken about Friga or Schon. You simply can't do it. I'm a fuckin' LOON and proud of it. Perry WAS and is, JOURNEY.

PS Lora CAN'T correct me on THIS.

Was he classy when he dumped Smitty and Ross? How about when he made the band wait 13 years for him, only to fuck them over again after TBF?

As far as dumping Smith and Ross...That definitely wasn't Perry's finest hour. That said...he admitted that he was flat out wrong for doing it and that it isn't a decision he would make again, if given the choice. The bottom line is that people make mistakes, and he certainly made one in that regard. As for making these guys wait and fucking them over...that's an entirely separate issue, and I certainly don't believe Perry fucked anyone over by tending to a surgical procedure on his body!

While I disagree with the premise, and I generally think Perry was a dick to do so, the firing of Valory/Smitty was probably handled much better than recent .. events.

On a separate note, those comparing Deen C. to Smith are out of their minds. Deen is a great metal/hard rock drummer with (luckily) a very good voice when called upon to deliver. But Smitty wrote the percussion for Journey's best/most memorable songs. Listen closely (esp on 'Stone in Love') where the drumming really meshes perfectly with the vocals. tempo, guitar, mood, everything else. Really he was more like Bonham that way.

Deen C. is a fun live performer, and more than adequate in reproducing a powerful, live approximation. But Smitty wrote the what fits in with the songs perfectly, and that's a lot harder to do than just being a showman/keeping time/being energetic.

Not that it matters now. We're gonna get a Perry clone/zero chemistry with Schon, and the dirty dozen and that's IT.

NIG, your remarks about Perry are way off base. I don't believe Perry decisions were EVER made to intentionally hurt any of his former band mates! Perry has done MORE GREAT things for Journey that is still evident to this very day! Just to name a couple, Journey Star Hollywood Walk of fame, The Soprano show. It is THIS ERA of Journey, Perry, Cain, Schon, Ross & Smith, and Rolie too that accomplished so much with their music!!!

Besides the fact remains that Neal & Jon went along with the decision too, and I'm guessing since Ross & Smith came back to Journey to make TBF cd, they were able to move on from whatever happened between them. It is "you" who is stuck in the past!

At least he was a big enough to man to admit he was wrong. He said if he could do it all over that he wouldn't have done it. That's all I need to know about the man. Speaks volumes. I don't know everything that happened with TBF, but if recent events are ANY indication of the type of people he was working with, I'd have done the same fuckin' thing. He never bastardized the music. Never played to a phony show. Friga even said that he bled a little everytime he sang. The dude gave EVERYTHING. He respected the music and the FANS. Fuck Neal Schon. Your Av, like your argument, is embarrassing.

I can't defend the firing of Steve & Ross, but in light of recent events, I can see how Perry just had enough of Neal & Jon. I can't believe this whole asshole side of their personalities is a new development. I used to put ALL of the blame on Perry, but I now believe he probably had valid reasons for doing what he did.

I feel like 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag. We ARE gonna kick Niggy's ass. No "guitar God" (per Niggy) plays to taped vocals. Makes you JUST as cheap as the lead singer. It's a team up there. One cheats, they ALL cheat.

None of us truly know what went on in the heads of the band members/management back then...and maybe not even those who were employed with the band. It's possible that the decisions that Perry was making with the band in the late 80's were made in competition with Schon and Cain. Who knows? In retrospect, it was a bad decision for Perry to get rid of Ross and Smitty. Well, at least Smitty..lol! j/k In defense to Steve, I believe he made those decisions because he felt it was best for the music and the band at that point. In retrospect, he realized that wasn't the best thing to do and admitted to it.

Still, when you talk about Steve Perry, you can't help but to hear how much he puts into his craft. And maybe, he didn't feel a part of Journey unless he had the reigns. It was like his baby and he wanted to do what he could to protect it, even if it meant putting it away and on the shelf for years. It sounds very selfish, but I'm seeing that as years have progressed, it starts to make sense. Possibly Perry knew that something like this was going to happen with Journey or whatever band Cain and Schon would be in if those guys had the reigns.

In the end, what it comes down to is that you have a hand full of musicians who are the best at what they do, and getting them together with the chemistry is magic, but meshing the egos is torment.

Seriously, does it really matter anymore?

Journey is a joke.

As much as I've disliked him, SP should really stay far far away.

It wasn't popular because you acted like a spoiled little bitch who couldn't accept that Journey moved on. You couldn't just let the people who enjoyed Augeri be, you had to poke and prod.

That's why you were unpopular.
