....of "Don't Stop Believin' ".

He only went down a 1/2 step: from E-Natural, to E-Flat. Played both vocal lines on my Keyboard before I typed.

Pretty sure the entire set was down 1/2 step. Sounds a little weird for the first song but after a few minutes of the set your mind gets used to the lowered pitch.

A perfect example of an artist re-arranging a song and it still sounding wonderful. Man, that sounded great.

Well since I'm not a musician, I wouldn't know what key he is singing in, all I know whenever Perry sings, he has my full attention, and nothing else matters!!! :D lol!

That's where you can separate great artists from just great singers. Perry was the total package. Probably still could be.

That's one thing I've always loved about some artists. Kansas is a good example of it. I've seen them several times and I've probably never heard them play the same arrangement to any song more than once. They always twist the melody a bit here or there, add a new part to the song, extend a section, etc., to keep it fresh. It's good for the artist AND the audience.

Nice you tube version.

Very sorry he wouldn't give you all more live afterwards.

It would have saved a lot of bullshit that followed...........

He is really good in this clip. However some of the loons that disregard other singers who have continued forward at a super high level really piss me off.

This was a nice clip.

That's why EVERY single concert they did is so valuable and I must have each song Journey ever did on my ipod at least 10 times each because they are from different concerts and are all completely different. The man is a talent like no other.
"as long as they have to carry DSB as their banner, it looks like Perry will be right there with them as an overseer, ready to wield his veto power on all things Classic Journey." As quoted by Don on 12/7/2010

All I'll say, if a new singer came aboard and sang DSB this way with Journey....he'd be torn apart

I enjoyed it...but it was pretty damn far from amazing.

A good singer can make any song sound good, no matter what key the song is in.

What year was that?

Check out the other recordings from that show!
"Separate Ways" is amazing! "Somewhere There's Hope" is gorgeous and "I'll Be Alright Without You" is better than ever (imho anyway). 8)

I guess it depends on what you would rather hear. Regardless of the key he sings in, Steve Perry still sounds like Steve Perry. I don't care about the high notes or whether or not he sounds exactly like he did on the record. I like the way he sounds when he sings.

It's about more than notes, but it's impossible to explain that to someone if they don't just naturally get it.
