'Yes' had some good ones.
I remember one in particular which had a snake on it. 'Relayer' I think. The artist who designed them [Roger Dean] was very talented IMO.
Shame the music didn't live up to the album cover.

"Relayer" is a very underrated album, in my opinion...This is the front cover...

Thats the one!!!Thanks, Dave. :)
Isn't the snake fab?
What an artist.
I had the poster of this on my wall for ages when I was a kid in school.

See if you can find me another....
I think the band was called Greenslade, and there was a guy with claws. My memory is failing me.

Roger Dean also did most of the ASIA album covers, and will be doing art for the new one as well. I have 2 sets of Roger Dean greeting cards, each with some of his art on them (including the ASIA S/T and "Alpha" covers).

Rush and Toto always had great album covers,Yes are definitely very special and Journey wins because they're artwork became synonymous with their name.

Btw,great to see you posting again Susie,it's been some time!
How are you?Any gigs coming up until the end of the year?

SusieP - You might want to put a disclaimer on your posts! Something like - "No, I am not THAT Susie" should suffice.

I miss cover art and the sleeve art and the "big" full size posters you used to get in some albums. Like Captured and the unforgetable "Magical Mystery Tour" from the Beatles....sigh.

Half the fun was getting that album home and looking at every little particle of it inside and out while you listened to the record on your brand new - state of the art - STEREO ...... LOL. I have to say Rainbow's "Stright Between The Eyes" was very striking for its day and gets my vote even tho there are hundreds out there that are just as striking .....this is the one that takes my breath away every time I look at it

Totally.

And brit 70s/80s rock band UFO had some great covers designed by Hipnosis. Some of the 80s Scorps covers (Lovedrive) were cool too.

The new albums coming out look so lifeless and photoshopped. I prefer the pre-1995 ones that actually took a little effort on the part of a REAL artist.

These bands album covers come to mind:

Journey (of course)
Kiss
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Asia
T-Bone
