Honestly..The new songs...

Postby Journey69 » Thu Mar 13, 2008 10:54 am

Have me seriously worried.. I thought Neal said he was going to go back to the old musical sound? I didn't think he meant Raised on Radio.. The 3 new songs don't do anything for me..I really hope they sound better on the cd.. Does anyone share this thought besides the Perry loons?

I liked them a lot. It was a lot of fun to see them performed live for the first time as well. Can't wait for the new album.

I'm bummed they're not a different direction, but pleased with the overall quality. They're Journey songs, through and through, and will probably translate better on the disc.

They're not BAD songs at all.. I don't wanna say they're generic either, but they're definitely not overly unique.

That said, I enjoy the new tunes and look forward to hearing them on record. Here's to hoping that Journey proves in the rest of the album why they're Melodic Rock trendsetters, and throw in a few more "challenging" and unique songs that are more truly indicative of their overall talent and ability.

I don't know, the songs didn't grab me like the one's off Arrival.. Higher Place didn't do anything for me..Nor did all the way.. Signs of life was a Bad English song.. But,then I hear All the things and crapped myself..Then World gone wild,I got a feeling,Live and Breathe,To be alive again,Kiss me softly,We will meet again and I was floored! I swear I listened to that ablum for 3 months straight, and I got several people who were really Journey fans Hooked bigtime and thanked me for introducing them to the album..Do you know what song most of them like(and most were women)...? no not kiss me softly..It was All the things.. GO figure right? But all those songs took the song one direction and did a 180 or they had a great hook and chorus..The new ones just don't grab me like that..Oh well,I'll have to wait for the cd to know for sure..I have hope..

Journey are not in the position to go in a different direction. They need this record to be Journey. Going in a different direction sometimes you wind up with a record like Corporate America. Two songs on that disc that I'll even listen to. Ugh.

Couldn't agree more Rick! That's why I was worried when Jeff came into the picture. I loved Talisman, and some of his solo stuff, but he didn't sound like Journey at ALL. Some people may have wanted to see Journey try something new, but to me...I think I would've thrown in the towel on "new Journey".

I feel bad about the way Jeff was let go, but was happy as hell after I heard Arnel. To me, Journey should sound like Journey. Not Talisman, Sammy Hagar, or anything else for that matter. JMHO, but it's how I feel.

We certainly agree on Arrival - LOVE that album! The new songs do sound like Journey - maybe it will take time to see Arnel's contributions and they did not want to go too off the Journey path right at first. Let folks get used to Arnel, let him get his "sea legs" so-to-speak and then we'll see some growth. Remember, they are getting used to each other and performing together in public only a few times.

Frankly, I want to hear Arnel take that voice and use it on new material - the man can belt it out and he does NOT sound like Steve Perry to me. He sounds like a strong, soaring tenor who might need a little finesse but has the talent. I'll be listening to the new songs when they come out officially on the album (won't buy the Wal-Mart pack) if they are available on iTunes.

Who knows, they might blow me away! :)

Dude, are you high? Wish I was..but hey,

I need to quell my enthusiasm, because after I heard the Generations songs, I went overboard and talked them up too much. I learned that lesson, but- having said that, how can you not like these. Never Walk Away grabs me immediately. The new ballad is great. Wildest Dreams sounds Arrivalish to me. Arrival never grabbed me.

Yup, gotta agree with Deano...Wildest Dreams DOES sound Arrival-ish but the other two songs simply rock !

Dan (SJ) also was spot on with the comment on Neal's guitar 'singing' on After All These Years...just beautiful !

I like "All These Years" even 'tho it bothers me when I hear the same lyrics as an ROR song - I might buy it off iTunes or just listen to it eventually on youtube. The other two songs don't really do anything for me. I'll never buy the re-recorded so I guess I won't be buying the new package. There are a few songs from both Arrival & Generations that I like.

Seriously.... EVERY fucking band out there at one time or another will use the line that they're "going back to the sound of______ album". Then, when it comes out, it NEVER even comes close to that sound. I'm sick of that line and the lies. Either fucking DO IT, or tell the fans that you're taking a new approach or new sound. I think bands LOSE more fans when they lie to them like that

I agree. Either have it sound like the older sound with Perry or tell the fans it is a new direction,
My issue always was when they decided to go with JSS that they were going to go in the direction of
Soul Sirkus which I personally did not enjoy that sound. People liked it and that is cool and I agree he is an awesome vocalist.
I have not heard any of the new songs and I find it interesting the comments and opinions about them.
I am glad for people that they like them and are excited. I have a problem running youtube because I do not have cable or dsl and it more aggravation to me to try to watch something.
I do and did not agree with the choices NS and company have made with and for the band so I
was not planning to listen to the new songs. I probably will not purchase the cd or pack when it comes out.,
That being said, I think whatever direction they do decide to go in, it would be better and they moght retain some fans by letting them in on it.

*cough* ...$15 bucks for 2 cds AND a DVD?? And you won't have to import it either..Come on...support the band that still makes the music we like.

The new songs...I don't know, After all the Years sounds WAYYyyyyy cheese...like a Country song (Trisha Yearwood maybe? )

Of course they have to pander to the Open Arms / Faithfully audience...I don't think they ever will touch those songs again...maybe come close to 'Why Can't This Night Go On Forever".

I liked Wildest Dreams, by the time the band played it the second time.

It was funny, Neal chuckled when he introduced one of the new songs (can't remember which one). That's something your average concert goer never wants to hear from a classic rock band 'Here's some new stuff'...But I think they're promising, definitely
