Perry's Voice Is Like Butter...

Postby scarygirl » Sun Jun 15, 2008 12:08 am

Upon prompting by another member, I am presenting this thread. With clips that CLEARLY show why Perry reigns forever. SUCK IT ANTI-PEEPS!

This one was put on youtube by my dear friend Mariet. God bless her for keeping the legend alive and well. Mariet dear, I hope you don't mind. Since it's on youtube for everyone to see, I thought it would be okay. Love you girl.

Does that mean Arnel's voice is "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter"?

I keep watching that Party's Over video since it's been posted a million times here and for the life of me I can't see why some of you think this is a great Perry performance. He sounds really shrill and thin to my ears. That's one of my favorite songs on tape but this performance just sounds thin - maybe Perry's voice really needed that trademark echo to fatten it up back in these days. I dunno. Thta Winds of March is classic, haven't seen that one yet

I've been saying this for a long time!!! Right on Granny :!:

I have never seen such passion for someone who has given us so much and yet has not been heard of in so long. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong and I will be the first to admit it but I firmly believe that he can still sing, and that he will sing again, and soon - based upon what we have heard recently. The time has never been so right as now......

And, I agree, thank you so much, Mariet, for providing us with such great videos, pics, and insight. Luv you.

As I've said numerous times in the past...what Perry can do in 2008 is beyond irrelevant. It will NEVER change what he did! I've yet to come across a single singer who can sing better at 60 than they could at 30...not one! The bottom line is that NOBODY who has been brought into Journey could carry Perry's jock, in his prime! The rest are simply imitators, and some of them...not very good ones!

Dennis DeYoung IMO is even better in 2008 than he was in 1978.

I gotta agree with this, especially since until further notice, he's not doing anything. If he were to however, cold hard fact is that only a very select amount of people would be interested, regardless of his vocal capacity. The marketability for success (even for someone with his resume) dwindles by astounding percentages the longer time passes, people are forgetful by nature, and even at that tend to be very lassiez-faire about things like this. Such as, as much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Eagles, if Don or Glenn were to put out a solo effort these days, I wouldn't buy it. Who cares. I want to listen to the old stuff. Get it? Perry's got something really good going for him right now, and that's status as a pop culture icon. Not many of his peers can say that. You don't see Christmas Carol parodies on YouTube of Jimi Jamison, do you? Everyone should assume he can't sing anymore, and he's not doing shit... that way when it happens, you saw it coming. And if something is released, you can be pleasantly surprised.

WAS like butter. We all get old, SP is no different. That said... He was one of the most truly talented vocalists of our time. I'd like to see something new from him, but that seems more and more unlikely.

No, it can't...unless you think Steve Lukather doesn't have a fucking clue what sounding great means, when he referred to Perry in the studio recently. Dude is only one of the best guitarists in the world, but that doesn't mean he's got a set of ears better than some of you, right?  Yeah, ok.

I understand what you're saying, but I happen to like it. Overall, the problem's with the recording not his voice. The mix is terrible. Mic level is way too high, much more so than the rest of the band. The whole band sounds flat, including neal's guitar and especially Smitty's drums. The whole thing sounds like a garage band recorded with a box radio cassette deck... but that's what I like about it. It's really raw.

Compared with this performance, you can tell the whole band is pretty much repeating the same liks, including Perry. Just a proper cleaner recording and sound mix.

OMG...I did NOT say he couldn't sing. I don't have the first fucking clue if he can sing or not. I was commenting to Carol when she said that nobody HERE has heard him sing in the last 10 yrs or knows anything about his health or anything else so they shouldn't be spouting off that he can't sing!! I just pointed out the nobody HERE has heard him sing or knows anything about his health also. I was talking about the people posting on this board. NOT Steve Lukather.

Is that clear enough to you?

I think Tommy Shaw is in his mid-late 50s. His voice is better than it was in the 70s. Listen to him sing "Your Move" from the Shaw Blades record. MAN.

Life gets so confusing at times. I wonder if people fuss because they miss him as much as his voice or because of his voice. He was so brilliant and he did it because of his love of the song, the fans and the band. He loved to sing and some people don't seem to appreciate or acknowledge the sacrifices he had to make in his life to sing these songs night after night after night for all those years. Maybe he didn't give his voice time enough to rest during those years but his commitment to the fans and song was a bigger comittment than to himself. I could not imagine having to choose which he had to sacrifice: his voice, the fans or the band or his life. The more he sang it seemed the more people wanted him to sing and the less he had his chance at life outside of the band. I'm glad he finally got to chose life and he put it in a better perspective by putting himself first. Fans are a greedy lot and so are musicians. I wish him the very best and the best health and if he is able to...that's a big IF...he can return doing what he really loves. But not to sacrifice living. Think of himself first and second and last. These squabbles are just squabbles; the "want" will never go away for him to sing again; it doesn't matter what others say and how upset they get to be. It's his life and he has to live it the best and only way he knows how. FINALLY!
