What's your final opinion on re-recorded GH?

Awesome. Journey made the right decision re-recording these hits, and looking forward for more re-recording in the future.

They're just OK, after listening once or twice, I'm not going to listen to them again.

They're bad, Arnel sounds terrible with these re-recordings. Dont ever re-record songs again.

Not interested and will never listen to these re-recorded songs, I'm satisfied with original Perry/Augeri songs.

Your final opinion on re-recorded Greatest Hits!

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse regarding these re-recording issue, but just curious about this poll on number of fans who like/dislike these re-recordings.
I just want to see numbers. After a controversial decision made by Journey to re-record these GH, Journey fans were divided about this issue, do you think Journey/Walmart made the right or made a very stupid decision releasing these re-recorded hits? Here are your poll options.

There's really no choice for me listed. I'll listen to them every once in awhile. I like some of them a lot and others not so much. I guess I'm stuck somewhere between the first two choices but probably a bit closer to the second one.

Sure. I don't think it can hurt anything or anyone. Steve Perry's legacy as a lead singer is signed, sealed and delivered. I think re-recording music from his time in the band only showcases just how great he was and also serves as a link to the present.

Agreed, I've talked to some of my friends, and they're mostly casual fans, I showed them their new CD and their first to request to hear are the re-recorded songs and they were all surprised how good Arnel is.

I only just listened to the re-records yesterday...well, half way thru and then had enough. I won't listen to them again - the SP originals are perfect.

And, I prefer SA's version of FITH, especially with beginning and ending (which is super).
When I heard DSB start on the re-records it sounded weird - I think somebody here said it sounded like JC was playing a Fisher-Price toy piano & it did. AP does a fine job and I certainly wouldn't want to go to a Journey concert and hear ca-ca, but leave the originals on CD alone from now on.

I just prefer an artist create their own original work. I do love the new songs.

No thanks, I'll stick with the originals. I think FITH is better by Steve Augeri as well.

I think this CD is totally not necessary, but at least it's 'free' (in a sense that it's a bonus).

I think they did great on the re-records. A couple of things that really bother me though, is Jon's cheesy sounding key parts (Don't Stop Believing, Separate Ways), and that damn click track during "Faithfully" and "Open Arms"! I know they were just rushed, and those things were just overlooked though. I just wish they could have spent a little more time on them (as well as the new songs) and polish them just a tad. Overall, I'm happy as hell with it!

Abiut the re-recordings...

Postby 4ever4Steve » Mon Jun 16, 2008 11:35 am

Well, I think most are very, very good ,esp. "Only the Young"...BUT I like Augeri's FITH much better( more emotion and strength of the song's lyrics), and I also think "Stone In Love' was the worst of these re-do's. Arnel sounded tired, or sick or just not 'into' that song at the moment they recorded it.
All in all, I do think Arnel is a great singer, and I love all the new ones ( except WITTW). I now skip that one; just don't like the song.

Peace & Love,
Anne

I think the re-records sounded okay, and proved that Arnel is up to the task, but I believe the only thing they accomplished in the long run was to attempt to piss Steve Perry off really bad. I don't picture anyone sitting in front of their CD player saying, "I'm going to toss my Perry/Journey CD's and listen to these instead."

I think they are kind of pointless, since they sound almost exactly the same as the originals! They are well done though. I will listen to it once in a while.

While I don't want to hear anymore re-records....I think the current ones are fine.

My take is that they give people a chance to hear what the songs will sound like live with Arnel at the helm...cause let's face it...if you go to see Journey live now...this is pretty much what you are going to hear. And I'm very cool with that to be honest. I think Arnel did the songs justice and put his own touch to them. Everyone that I played them for so far has like them, but they think the new stuff is just awesome. So I think it's win win for the Journey boys.

They're AWFUL. I HAD to listen to them a couple of times to give them a "fair shake", but they're just not good, IMO.
I almost chose the "Not interested" choice, but I chose the "They're bad" one. Although, I'd throw the word Pointless in that choice as well. I WILL say that OTY is the best one but it pales in comparison to Perry by a LONGSHOT.

I can perfectly enjoy Arnel sinigng the greatest hits live - fine with that and he sounds great.

The re-records different matter, whilst not as bad as I thought they might be are an advertisement that says to the world "Arnels a great singer and is a perfectly legit lead singer of Journey , but will never be a Steve Perry". All of us could already figure that out, not in anyones best interest to keep reminding us!

I selected the "They're bad" option.

It's not that Arnel is particularly bad on them, (although as a singer, he doesn't float my boat) but the production and general care and attention to the playing is absent. Mine certainly won't suffer much wear and tear through playing.

I have only listened to it once, so I will probably listen a couple more times to give it a chance. My problem is I think of those songs as Steve songs, and I really don't want to hear anyone else sing those songs but Perry.

The production is medicore. The songs are nice for a change, but the sadly sound like a cover band performing good songs, but falling short musically and Vocally. A good effort, but not good enough to be played on the radio...
