OT-Springsteen rumored Super Bowl halftime act

Postby Angiekay » Wed Aug 13, 2008 12:39 am

A little early, but here you have it

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are said to have already committed to perform at Super Bowl XLIII (43) on February 1st in Tampa, Florida. The New York Post reported that a "spy" claimed that, "Little Stevie (Van Zandt) has already rented out the Hard Rock Cafe for a party." Representatives for Springsteen haven't commented yet on the rumors.

I've never been a Springsteen fan, but I like it when a classic rock act does the HT show. I guess they don't have to worry about "wardrobe malfunctions" or other issues which is kind of weird if you think about it.

I know! BEAUTIFUL! I couldn't watch the game and when I came home last night and was watching highlights, I was ready for the worst but pleasantly surprised!!! I'd like to thank the Red Sox as well for kicking the White Sox ass!

Excuse me while I go puke. Aside from The Dave Matthews band the choice couldn't have been worse.

I have to agree with Saint John. If it's true, it will be a looooooong bathroom break indeed.

FYI- Criticism of an administration is not "whining about how bad the country is". It's a very valid form of artistic expression. And I highly doubt the man is a billionaire. He also, unlike alot of his ilk, puts his money where his mouth is, with huge charitable gifts to food banks, habitat for humanity, etc...

DAMN- Prog, where are you when I need you? I need some "Boss backup!!!!"

It's times like these I really miss Deano!

I will ask Deano for his rebuttal and post it here for him under my name. I'm sure it'll be quite obvious when it's him talking and not me!!!

Well the rumor makes sense. Ever since the wardrobe malfunction, the Superbowl has consistently gone with the older acts.

Thought this was interesting:

considering other options like Justin Timberlake, Hannah Montanta, or the myriad of R&B/hip-hop stars, having a bona-fide rock band on the Superbowl isn't a bad thing. Give him his credit, for all the public talk of politics notwithstanding, Springsteen DOES put on a good show.

Bruce supporter in the house! :D

Petty last time and The Boss next time? Sweet. As long as we can keep rap off the stage, I'm happy. That and R&B (Rotten & Bad music)

Seriously though, how'd Journey's PR screw this one up? They've been on fire and could've snagged the HT show easily. Revs and the back catalog would've seen another sales jump.

Okay...fair point about the charity, and I was just trying to be excessive with the "billionaire thing", however he's been whining about this country my whole life. Wasn't he saying how bad things were in the 80's even? I just get tired of it. I'm sorry...I just do. You hear his fans mock when "Born in the USA" is used for patriotic reasons...but don't songs have multiple meanings to different people? You don't hear us criticizing the Sopranos for their usage of DSB by saying....ITS ABOUT PROSTITUTES YOU IDIOT. I feel like he and his fans get kinda swarmy.

They're better people, more entertaining, and at this point, more talented than Bruce Screamsteen.

Well said Eric, and yea, he's been whining forever. It's one thing to make a song like BITUS and have people make of it what they will, it's another to be running around acting like Bruce can sometimes. It DOES get tiring. Same thing with Mellencamp, who I guess has been angering a lot of concertgoers with a lengthy political film on this tour. Most people don't go to these shows expecting that... sure, maybe you'd expect it at a CSNY concert or something, but I digress.

It is certainly a valid form of artistic expression, X factor. The problem is keeping it within the bounds of the art form itself. I wouldn't go to hear a poet rap about his views, nor would I go to hear Springsteen orate about his. He can sing about them all he wants. I paid to hear him perform what he's good at.

That being said, I like Bruce, Mellencamp, and CSNY a lot. I just ignore the banter and enjoy the music for what it is. But I probably would be a little miffed if I paid money to see a concert and got some propaganda tape taking up 20 minutes of showtime or heard some blowhard musician waxing poetic instead of playin the guitar and singing.

What's with the dissent? Most of us will be three sheets by halftime, so what'll we notice? If the halftime show sucks, you go play another round of beer pong. It's not that complicated, ya'll.

I like Bruce... he's cool. Be thankful it's not Katy Mommyfkn Perry out there. :P
