I mean squishy love songs are great too, like When You love A Woman and Faithfully and a lot of the 80s power ballad ilk. But I also like the "darker, regretful" ballads

Chicago writes some amazing ballads! I love "If She Would have been faithfull", "Will you still love me", "What kind of man would I be". I've always been a huge fan, and love the vocal harmonies. I wish Cetera was still with the band though! It's just not the same with Scheff (or however you spell his name). His vocals just seem really thin and powerless to me compared to Cetera. Guess they cracked the stone? :shock:

Also a huge fan of "Open Arms". Cain has to be the master of ballads!

I hate Open Arms but I'm with ya on the Chicago stuff. The hardcore early fans will say that's when they jumped the shark, once they started the ballads. Whether it's comparing Van Hagar to DLR-fronted VH, Journey with their vocalists, Styx with or without DeYoung, Little River Banad without BSG, I tend to just listen to the music and decide if I like it for what it is - no different for me with Chicago. love all their eras.

It's funny you don't like Scheff but you mention those songs as some of your faves... because all three of those are not only post-Cetera, but Scheff dominated. Not sure if you realize that or not. Good pick Tammy. Van's mellow stuff is pretty good. Avalon Sunset has a few tunes mellow like this.

Another by him I like is "Hungry For Your Love". Couldn't find a clip of that one.

I actually did know that he sang those songs. I guess I should have clarified...I'm not a fan of his CURRENT voice. I've seen them live, and also own several Chicago dvd's...I'm not a fan at all of him live!

I compare him to Augeri, and before I get jumped on, I LOVE what Augeri did for the band as well as fans. We owe him a great debt for keeping this band alive. Augeri's voice was shot at the time he left the band though, and sounded terrible live! I'm sure his vocals have recovered somewhat since he left, and I can't wait to hear what he comes out with.

Back to Chicago though, Cetera just has something so unique in his vocals, and still to this day is an amazing singer! I just wish they'd patch it up and get back together.

Jason's no spring chicken anymore so his voice has some off nights but I've seen him a couple times in the last few years where he kicked ass. He wasn't very good last year but he appeared to be sick - he kept drinking some weird thing that a stagehand kept filling up for him. Wasn't water. Also was visibly coughing up there. Scheff is nowhere near Augeri degradation on his voice either, whatever night you catch him on.

. They did do the electric Look Away as part of a Bill Champlin 80s medley last year... they also did I Don't Wanna Live Without Your Love, Look Away, and maybe one other song as part of that medley. Granted, it wasn't the entire version, but the electric piano, the guitar solos, and what not were all there. It was pretty cool. I think the acoustic Look Away is great though... Bill and Keith Howland sound GREAT on the harmony. I've seen both live.

Def... you might not like it that much. Lots of Champlin "soulisms" throughout. There might be a better quality video of this too... audio sounds very thin. I gotta go now as well though so you can dig around if you like
