Bammies ~ Where Were You

Postby Deb » Tue Nov 18, 2008 1:04 pm

Quality isn't the greatest, but I didn't see this on youtube yet, so here is the other song performed at the Bammies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2SBpi8xlC4

I heard they might have performed three? Or is there just Party's Over and Where Were You?

It was. This was the first show, the beginning of one of the greatest 2 year runs in rock n roll history. It was also the beginning of the end, but this is the beginning of what brought us here.

I believe what "someone else" said was that he was staring at Perry like a chocolate cupcake, and kind of like he wanted to leap over the keyboard and give him a right and proper sucking off right on the spot. I hope I didn't misquote "someone." 8)

I didn't notice THAT. Looked to me like he was just trying to keep up, being his first live performance. It could be because we've seen Rolie's "This guy's fucking up our band" look so many times that anything other than that looks like something else.

Don't get me wrong. If I had to choose between the two, I'd choose Rolie every time. Cain is a fine musician and writer, but Rolie was the better keyboard player/organist and singer and Journey had a better sound because of it.

The argument that Cain brought success is speculative at best. With Rolie, they may have had their first #1 song or a series of them. Again, speculation.

Yes, CP and I were both there but didn't know each other at the time. The show was at the very intimate Warfield Theatre. They did two songs and if I remember correctly, Neal did a kick ass solo on The Party's Over. It was Jay Cain's (as everyone called him then) first live show with them. I was devasted over the departure of Gregg at the time, so was sad watching the new guy. Jonathan did a great job, though.

Gregg was actually there at the show and came up with the band when they accepted one of the several awards they received that night. He said something about Jonathan taking his place and told the audience "you're gonna love him." I haven't watched my tape of that show in eons but I still remember that. I think the reason you don't see clips of this on Youtube much is that it was only broadcast locally and that was back in the day when people didn't have VCRs yet. I had a friend who lived in the Bay Area and she taped it for me off the signal from her TV antenna (no cable then). Anyway, it was my first BAMMIES and I will never forget it. Everyone got dressed up to go to those shows and there was an after show party that the bands would attend. What great memories.

More history. What was to become of another part of Journey's great run. Can we get the story of When Lora met Cyndy?
