What kind of album do want to see next, from Journey?

Postby Don » Mon Sep 07, 2009 6:20 am

We have to use common sense here. Without a sweet royalty deal from Wal-Mart, I can't imagine them doing a multi-disc set, so let's think of these options as 15 track albums.

I don't know how feasible two of the options are as Neal has got to be tired of having Steve Perry's name attached to everything he does, even though the guy has been gone forever, and letting him get paid off of new albums not released by Sony might be the last thing he wants now, even if the amounts are only a few hundred thousand dollars or whatever.

I say from scratch, all new and nothing out of the can. Anything in the can with any previous singer's writing credits on it has to stay in the can. Outside of that, pull out all the stops. I have no idea what the trio consisting of Cain, Schon & Pineda can pull out, but I think were about to find out. It will either fly or we will have the Hindenburg II. It's time to shed the shadow of he who shall not be named and see if they really can go somewhere on their own. I'm rooting for them. :D

New stuff only. You can throw a cover song in there as an extra track, that would be cool. I just don't want to hear it in concert.

I forgot to include the "NO FLUFFING BALLADS" option. Christ, they've still got ballads from Revelation they haven't given exposure to yet.

Only new stuff. Cover song? Why? I think this will be heavier and a very good effort! We shall see, I am rooting for Journey to follow up Revelation with another solid CD.

Most albums these days seem to have one throw away track. I figured a cover could be that one song, here.

Who voted live album? Any particular reason besides it being a selectable option?
Could you give us a setlist you would like to see on it?

I hope they release a 15 song album, and if they do... I want all new material. It would be cool if they wrote 13 new songs, then added a live version of the new extended "Separate Ways", and a live version of "What I Needed". I would LOVE to have those in high quality on a disk!

Play the cover tunes live, to show your flexibility and all around prowess, but leave the cover song off the album.

Christ, you don't ask for much do you dude? There are only about a handful of albums ever released that have been diagnosed as perfect. Hell, Escape had a few throwaways on it.

Nice, Jimbo. I like. 8) But it can be a 13-song album, 11 new and the SW and WIN extended versions live from the Manila show. Awesome idea. Neal, are ya' listening?
But I'm not locked down on the number of new songs. I don't want filler.

I didn't vote since I agree with EA. No covers.

Don't bands use ocvers when they lose a lot of the creativity to create their own music? :? :?

I guess it depends. The BodyGuard soundtrack sold 45 million copies on the strength of a cover song. No one thought less of Whitney's other songs on the album because of it.

As long as you don't make it a habit.

Not at all. It shows what flexibility and talent you have to just throw one at em so to speak. For example, that Download festival they played? Those attendees don't want anypart of Open Arms...so? Throw a little Whole Lotta Love at em. Hell, play Crazy Train.

I want a live album from that metal fest they did in Europe.
Surely that was recorded.

Btw, didn't Kevin Shirley say that he'd be in studio with Journey Oct/Nov?

wtf? covers? why is this even being considered?
There's ZERO place for covers on an album....unless the hireling got fired and David Lee Hairpiece is now singing for this group.

Personally, I'd prefer an album where the hireling actually writes some of the music....

I'd also prefer if cave-drunk was no-where within a 1500 mile radius of the group when they record new music....

but given that Shirley's already stated he's going to be with the band between Oct/Nov, I have to get used to the fact that I will continually be disappointed by the Midget and Tampax brigade
