Journey/Scorpions?

Postby Don » Sun Dec 12, 2010 5:33 am

This was rumored a few years ago. Sounds like it might actually happen this time.
AND
Europe might be third act.

Europe Opens, then Scorpions and after that, the masters of metal close it out (Journey).

A U.S. lineup. In Europe, Scorpions are headlining because it's their farewell tour. In America, the Scorps aren't quite that strong.

Still think the Scorpions are too heavy to tour with Journey....they would blow Jon Cain off his little seat.

This is a once in a lifetime chance for Journey (Scorpions' last tour). You're basically going to be playing in front of about 5-10 thousand fans per show you normally wouldn't be. If they're serious about moving into a more "rocking" direction, this is the audience you'll need to win over and add on. This is an excellent billing for both bands to garner new fans, and it would make an excellent bill. Make it happen, man. That means you, Azoff!

I agree on the pair for the more rocking direction....I am just not thinking that the Scorpions fans are going to be all too
happy with Journey as a tour partner.....Faded Wedding Photographs meets Still Loving You.

The same could have been said for the METAL festivals Journey played 2 years ago, but the fans all overwhelmingly crowned Journey as the best band. I see a similar phenomenon happening again.

Many metal fans are bigtime crossover fans who appreciate different types of music. Remember, the focal point of a lot of good metal music is TIGHT musicianship. So, a lot of fans can really appreciate a band that's coming at you with solid tenor vocals and good guitar playing. I suspect that's a big part of the reason Journey was so well-received.

That's a great point. The other thing is that the nature of the harder stuff, some of the Scorpions' music excluded, they really don't ever get a chance to really sing along, and I think they enjoy being able to belt out lyrics for once.

I hope your info is right GB!! I saw the Scorps/Tesla/Jackyl concert last year and it was a great show in an almost sold-out amphitheatre. I'm thinking this 3some is a bit of overkill, but it would certainly guarantee sold-out shows in big venues. :D :D :D

I agree with SJ and others, metal fans do seem to accept Journey including most of the DL fans. You can bet they'll all be singing along.

Absolutely.

I can't speak for all, but I appreciate good talent when I see it, as should everybody.

No promoter in their right mind would pair up Journey with the Scorpions or Europe for a US tour.

Here and there. It's not a done deal, nothing to do with the bands but their management. Just keep your fingers crossed, the alternatives are far less attractive.

That's what they said about Def Lep/Journey. Tour made a crap ton of money and won an award.

The Scorps are a true international act... and would BLOW Journey off the stage..
