99¢ Gaga album crashes Amazon

Postby Don » Tue May 24, 2011 7:59 am

Not that we didn't know this already but Eclipse is now officially gunning for at least a #2 DEBUT on the Billboard album chart.

Too funny, but brilliant.

"The Little Monsters have amassed their horde over at Amazon.com with the news that they could get Lady GaGa's new album Born This Way for only 99¢!

Amazingly enough, they were so excited that they crashed their servers!

Officials have promised that everyone who has ordered one at that price point will get one, so now worries!

We're sure the servers will be up again soon! We'll keep you updated!"

Her marketing is killer, giving songs away based on task completions in Farmville, she or someone managing her is one smart cookie.

#1 in 22 countries on iTunes. She has totally embraced the digital age. I thought the early release of four singles might take away from complete album sales but that doesn't appear to be the case.
She can sing, she can write and she can entertain. What else do you need?

She comes from a web/media family background and is one smart cookie. Best thing is she really appreciates her fans. Hard work, talent and stellar products will only get you so far.. it's the fans that make it happen.

With music like that, I guess marketing genius becomes a must! If you need it for Farmville, by all means...but would that mean you have to listen to it?

As always, YOU make great points, but let me play my ace card here for a second.

If I were to present Bruce Springsteen or Lady Gaga to a festival in Europe, be it London, Glasgow, Oslo, Helsinki, Lisbon, or in North america (sorry Deb, Mr Big isn't a choce here obviously) New York, Toronto, or Los Angeles, who would you pick, Mr. Promoter? I am serious here. Could Lady Gaga outsell bruce? Bono? Petty? I would hope not, for a true rock show. Note- for Europe, I would include Bryan adams, as that dude is HUGE over there and I have NO doubt he could not defeat Gaga, but can compete with Brucey and Bono....

It's ok, i can handle the truth. I am serious here. I really think, givin her success, and I am all for her kicking ass, and actually like her, I would put my money on a proven \melodic rock frontiersman, versus Gaga to fill a stadium.

What says you Wikidon?

Please feel free to substitute Bon Jovi, U2, Metallica or Petty....basically the only four carrying "our" flag.

On her last tour when she was still getting her feet wet, she ended up with a gross of 227 million. Bruce toured the year before that and made 235 million. Gaga had a 99% sellout ratio around the world.

Now she is twice as popular as she was that previous tour so I'm betting Promoters might very well choose her over some other big name acts at this time.

Man, just talking about these types of numbers in the Journey forum seems obscene.

Gaga grew up listening to and loving Bruce.. she would certainly suggest that they do the show together. It's either/or inclusive

I think $.99 is a bit steep for Gaga music. Can't you still get a double cheeseburger at McDondald's for that kind of money? Both junk food, I know, but if I have 99 cents, I'm taking the cheeseburger.

Nope. Has she changed genres? Because I don't like top 40 cotton candy music, in general. Never liked Madonna either. They both sound the same to me, but Madonna is cuter.

Yeah, you're right. And I have no doubt she'll top billboard and make big bucks too. The top of billboard is a place where I can look to see what I shouldn't buy or listen to, although I'll no doubt hear it from some kids i-pod on a transit or somewhere.

Back to 99¢ again today. As if they needed to. From what I understand, this is Amazon's own doing to create traffic and Gaga will still receive full royalty rates.

She's horrifyingly awful. These club beat songs are just the worst. If there is instrumentation (i.e., guitars, bass, other organic instruments besides terrible looped synths), I'll give even the sugariest pop a chance. I'm all for a good hook. When it's just pulsating club looped synth garbage, no thanks. Hence why I like a few Katy Perry songs and despise the ones where it's got that club music feel. Ugh.

Fuck all these "artists" for making going to bars for my generation a lot less fun, at least for me. Nothing kills my buzz more than hearing garbage like this ad nauseum in a bar.

I full on agree with you. I like a few of her songs, but not much my cup of tea either. I ABSOLUTELY require guitar, drums and of course a heavy bass......to be on my constant rotation playlist. I just meant that out of alot of the popsters and or rappers out there now, she at least has the vocals and songwriting capabilities to back it up. At least 2 things going for that many don't.

Ultimately, it's about the pop album they put out, though, because that's the music you will hearing whether they write or don't, or play an instrument.

Three new songs from Born This Way:

Unicorn - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Q0m-48Sjok

Government Hooker - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIIX8H8Iz2c

I do really like this one, though: Marry the Night - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4IgYxHEAuk It's kind of '80s sounding, which she did on some songs.

True. And that's why there isn't a lot of the newer pop on my radar/playlist. I like some of them and don't mind the odd one here and there, but I can only handle so much of that techno/computer sound before I start craving some actual real guitar and bass/drum grooves. And don't even get me started on autotune vs. natural vocal talent.

I just went ahead and bought Born This Way, Eclipse and This Is Country.
Paisley's take on country really reminds me of the older artists in the 70s. Also, having Carrie Underwood, Alabama, and Don Henley on board doesn't hurt either.
I will still be getting an import version of Eclipse but couldn't bring myself to buy the Wal-Mart disc with that crap package. The digital purchase will, if anything fulfill my moral obligation as there are seven songs on the album that I do enjoy (and it's two dollars cheaper than Wal-Mart's offering).
Gaga is just one of those impulse buys that for 99¢, just couldn't be ignored. At least I'll have an opportunity to hear what all the fuss is about.

I couldn't believe the difference in packaging quality from import versions of cds. I bought the Japan import of MB's What If... (cuz I couldn't wait the extra month for US version  ) and then also the US later once I found out the dvd and cd bonus' were a little different. Not even to mention the Japan dvd had extra extras. But the packaging was way better. The Japan cd came with a limited edition cool 3D sliding sleeve extra cover over the cd packaging to boot.

True. I can live with some auto-tuned songs if they're catchy or the right club beat. I love Britney Spear's Till The World Ends. It's kind of a haunting club track. I do love JLO's new On The Floor club song, too. But whole albums rarely work for me. But I bought Gaga's album I will play it a few times, pick the songs I truly like and download those on my iPod and give the CD away because I won't listen to the whole thing. Personally, her Fame Monster was better and had excellent hooks compared to many of the songs on here. This album is very uneven. And she called it the masterpiece of the decade. LOL Pink's Funhouse was worth buying the whole album, but she's almost pop/rock, really. Excellent album. Personal songs.

I'll admit, I bought this stupid kunt's album off of Amazon for 99c to give to my girlfriend as a random gift. She'll like it. As soon as I confirm the CD works, it's getting deleted.
