After many years of lurking and reading this forum I recently joined. So I make a reply in another post being polite and then BAM! I get scrutiny by the infamous RockinDeano. I Don't know whether to feel honored or to tell him to kiss my ass! Cheers R D !

What you should do is handle your concerns with him in private and not let it distract from Eclipse's awesomeness. :D
'Nothing was bigger for Journey than 1981’s “Escape” album. “I have to attribute that to Jonathan coming in and joining the writing team,” Steve Perry (Feb 2012).'

Oh Stop already! It is a MESSAGE BOARD! I am but a passionate poster.....hardly a fucking celebrity. So I got close, real close to Neal, Cainer and Rosster, but that was then and this is now. look, I am all for laughs and games and adore the adulation, but seriously, why be a dick and rain on Journey fans parade? This seems to be a strong effort and I for one sure as shit aren't going to come in here and be negative for negative sakes. I have heard this effort and its good. I don't think it's Escape good, Frontiers good, Reckless good, or God Forbid born to Run good, but Eclipse is a strong effort. It surely is not a classic....why you ask? to me, (putting myself back into Journey fan day), it sounds very different than the Journey i grew up with and fond of. Journey to me, was never a real rock band. They were pop first, with a harder pop edge, and I was cool with that.

Nowadays, and you can see if you look between the lines here people, that there is NO true leader of this band.....Neal wanted to rock here and yes, he FINALLY did, and I guess it fits the bill if that's what you want. It lacks a definite balance. To me, Journey NEVER had a leader, and that was a good thing. When the Frig joined up in late '80, it was a triumvirate of Perry/Schon and Cain....and the democracy obviously worked. How anyone can dispute this is high on morphine or acid. That trifecta kicked ass. Hell even the hated Bruce Springsteen commented in an interviw during the 1984 in Los Angeles, CA, (4 nights at the Los angeles Memorial Coliseum(cap-105,650), during his tour(the biggest in history by the way) Born in the USA tour, that "those guys in Journey can sure write great songs." He has always been infatuated at the ease in which Journey produced pop songs.

Anyway, back to the leader or leaderless Journey of today. If you are a person that favours Neal and "rock" or Cain and "pop", you are out of luck here. This cd is an effort to put upon the ears of those who will listen, a harder edged "Journey." But let's think about that. You really think the average Journey fan wants 100%, or even 80% of the album to be of the same(in this case, harder)????? Journey has always had a balance of ballads, mid tempos and rockers, for the most part. EVERY album, from Infinity to Revelation had a balance(excluding that heap of shit Red13). Sure, some were overall harder, some softer, some poppier and some whatever, but they ALL had balance.

My point here, and I guess review, is this album might be great, but to attach it to a Journey name and label is wrong. I can tell you that Jonathan isn't thrilled with it. I KNOW that guy isn't Dancin in the Dark over Eclipse. he went along to massage Schon's wrinkled balls, because well, IMHO, this is the last go around, and these guys are done....unless Neal reciprocates(BabyBlue, that means do to your partner what he just did to you :) ).....but Cain has already had his soft Journey songs and albums.

I ain't a fortune teller, but this is it, in my opinion. These guys are done after this. Personally, I can't see Pineda being happy here either, especially him. Can you? From what I hear, dude is lost in the mix more than a few times, and this type of music CAN and COULD be sung by guys different than he......why keep your "soaring tenor" along for the ride if you don't need him....err, nevermind, that sob story still plays in Peroia, doesn't it?

Overall, nice record J-boyz......like I said, it's solid, but NOWHERE close to classic......BUT, it is reputable. At least it's worthy of a review.

I'll be the first here to say this their farewell, because if I am betting here, this is the last go round. What, are journey going to record a "last" album without Steve Perry? Get real. This is it folks...Nice way to exit, but still no classic.

I suggested a few months ago that this is probably an NSB album under the Journey name, and that it could be Cain's last. We'll see.
I'll probably get this album, eventually. I see no need to be in a hurry.
Nice little rant Deano. Hit the mark.

I think it could possibly be the last too, but not because of this album or its success or failure. I think at this age they will care about things more than money. I get the feeling that Cain is burned out touring, doesn't want to "rock" anymore, and that more than anything he'd like to hang around the studio, manage/produce his daughter and others, and write songs, and build wine. He's probably made enough money to ride it out, and he has nothing left to prove to anyone. I'll bet he could win a song writing award in Nashville if he gave it a go writing songs for country, and pop artists, he's that good. Neal will never stop playing, but he might want to throw off the constraints of Journey and play how he wants to play and with whomever, even if it means smaller and fewer crowds. Actually, he could jam with friends for big audiences too, he is well respected as a guitarist, and could even be an awesome session player and co-writer for big artists.

I'll say at the minimum, there's one more three disc live package left before the sun sets on this group, at least retail wise.

From the looks of it and comparing each singers legacy with SP, Augeri and now Arnel, they have caught some vicious fire as a group right now, all in good ways. They found a wonderful story in Arnel after the band went through some dark times and landing Arnel was kind of a new beginning. Going worldwide, appearing on Oprah and Ellen, playing the Super Bowl, bringing in new fans and also appearing on the Soprano's and Glee, they sure as hell want to milk this and ride this baby out until the spark finally burns out. At the pace Neal is going and since Arnel was a lucky find as well as his age, I can see Journey staying around for quite some time, even if they take yearly hiatus's or two in between.

I say there's atleast 2 more albums left with Arnel before they pack it in for having some farewell's on their legacy.

I'm thinking they'll do at least one more. I don't think Cain will want to go out on the note of an album that he probably thinks doesn't sound like his version of Journey.
