I just heard The Partys Over on our local Classic Rock station. I cant remember if Ive ever heard it on the radio before. I gotta say I still like the old Journey best. It makes me miss the good old days.....

Back in the day, I remember them playing it on WMMR in Philadelphia . It was actually a Top 40 hit.

It made an appearance in the film, Grown Ups this past year.

Perry's crowning moment, and the band, as a whole, is just fabulous on this one. Neal's solo on this one from the Japanese gigs is every bit as good, and to to me better, as the end of WCN.

It's great tune.

It's a little bit structured like She's A Mystery except Neal's more in control on his solo and not just shredding to shred like he does on a lot of Eclipse.

Really? I think 'Patiently' is a analog for 'She's a Mystery' than this one, personally.

Pssh, I'm going to respectfully disagree and side with this one fella who reviewed Eclipse a while back:

Don wrote:Neal plays with passion and fire but doesn't fall into the bad habit he does live of making this a total shredfest. The notes are clear and concise and will take you back to those early days when Neal could captivate an audience all by himself.

Look familar? :P

As I said, Neal doesn't make Eclipse a TOTAL shredfest but he does do a LOT of shredding. See how I avoided using definitives there.

Definitely, but the two messages implicate contradictory messages.
But, then again, one could say I'm a petty, pedantic sonuvabitch.  :P

You did and it's forever on record.
What's it feel like, paying Neal a compliment and knowing you can never take it back?

Well, that's why I do it, to try and make it Gideon proof.

I bet that was pretty intimate: One man on stage, one man in the audience....

You never have the same reaction to my corny jokes about Journey-Eclipse and Soto's gay titles with Arabic numerals in them.

Unfortunately, I didn't pull a stevew2 and sport a pink FRO- shirt to try and catch Neal's eye.

Cain's the only one that can get that kind of attention.

I was pretty close to Neal on stage in Louisville '09 and I can tell you that you'll only get his attention one of two ways:

(1.) Knowing all the words to the new songs
(2.) Having a nice rack and a low-cut shirt

No comments on which tactic I used, smartasses!

I've always loved Neal's intro to that song and Perry's vocals...Other than that, the song is too much in the pop direction and not enough rock for me.

One of my favorite Journey songs. I actually prefer the live version with the jam session at the end. Here's the band firing all 8 cylinders -- the song just grooves. Pure musical chemistry. It should be noted Smitty nailed this groove right after finishing his killer drum solo. Amazing stamina.

My gawd, that's some good stuff right there! :D Time to pull that show out again. Probably one of the only shows that has a live version of Lay It Down too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3rQAcId ... re=related

Isn't there a story somewhere about Smitty not even playing on this song? Or, writing the drum line, but not actually recording it? I dunno. Seems like read that somewhere.

I heard it was recorded between Rollie's exit and Cain's entrance and that some studio session player was on keys on the studio track. Never anything about the drumming though.

Stevie "Keys" Roseman was the keyboard player that played on the studio track I believe.
