Neal needs to up the game on this next one. His solo albums have been duds, in my humble opinion.
Less Jazz/fusion and more rock. All the frustrations about what's not allowed in Journey should pour out into this record.
Would like to hear more of "The Revelation" kind of fare with Jon's melodic touch.
FamilyMan wrote:Because I honestly think left to his own devices, the solo stuff is boring and unremarkable.
The Eclipse sound - with Jon's input - is a good zone for Schon.

Journey/Survivor wrote:"Best Of What I Got" "Heaven Is A 4 Letter Word" "Forget Me Not" "Ready When You Are" "Lay Down" "Rocking Horse" "So This Is Eden" "Dancing Off The Edge Of The World" and "Pray For Rain" are all Hard Rockers. And there are others like "Tough Times Don't Last" "Ghost In Your Heart" and "Life At The Top" that almost qualify in the same category.
I've known people over the years that almost exclusively listen to Metal and hate almost anything that's not Metal, that love "Best Of What I Got" "Heaven Is A 4 Letter Word" and "Forget Me Not."

"Bad English" is hard rock now? Oooookay.![]()
Even the non Diane Warren penned songs are AOR or pop at best.
What's the hardest track they recorded? Rocking horse?

on the pop scale..at the time they were together.. they were a hard rock band..
Kinda how folks considered Aerosmith a hard rock band back in the 70's and 80's... and then they became more popular, and "chipped away the stone" of their hard rock perception.....
Neal isn't stupid enough to start another band, in the Eclipse direction.. even he can see what does and doesn't sell. But then again, we are talking about Neal... so who knows..

Eclipse could've been an entire cd of Gregorian monk chants. Without the hits, it aint selling. Just like every Journey cd since Arrival.

Plenty of legacy music on Arrival and Generations. It didn't sell.

Now, that said...if Neal toured solo and did both acoustic and electric stuff from his solo works in smaller more intimate venues....that could be interesting. He could even do new acoustic arrangements of one or two classic Journey tunes to save for "encores" etc... Do special shows at casinos, live music bars etc. and highlight his solo work...that I'd go see.

slucero wrote:Saying "rock" and "Jon" in the same sentence is an oxymoron.. the whole point of Neal's solo stuff was so he could get away from Journey's pap... so why would he bring Jon in...
