Perry's Second Performance - MUCH Better Audio

Postby Enigma869 » Tue Jun 03, 2014 3:47 am

He's at it again! Something is going on with this dude. He has the bug

I have to say that after listening to this performance...He sure sounds like Perry to me. I'd buy his solo album tomorrow, long before I'd buy anything the guys masquerading as "Journey" put out!

I love the rendition of Open Arms... sounds like it was cut right out of Motown.

Open Arms was always the one song I could be fine without hearing again. Just because of the number of times i heard it in the 80's. But damn if that song hasn't been stuck in my head for a week now! Why did he choose that one? Ha ha.

Would have to agree with you on that. But man his pipes on that MF song are damn good, still has that great tone and delivery! What I wouldn't give to hear him belt out Still They Ride at one of those shows! :D

Holy Cripes.

He sings a couple of songs at his leisure with some alt rock band, and suddenly he's better than Journey who has put out 4.5 albums and done about 1000 tour dates since '98. And is out kicking ass as we speak by the way...

So funny.

The two have nothing to do with each other. And if these songs tell us ANYTHING - its that Journey made the right decision moving forward in '98.

What the hell are you talking about? I never recall claiming that anyone was better than anyone else! I simply stated that I would prefer to buy new material from Perry, than material Schon and his hired hit men put out for consumption! That's my personal preference. Schon's guitar licks didn't make me a Journey fan. Perry's vocals did!

I feel just the opposite. I'm not sure Perry could pick two more sucky Journey songs than OA, and LTS. Both songs suck donkey balls! Here is hoping that if he decides to get up for a third time that he selects some "new" material!

I agree. I am completely bored with the current Journey lineup, to karaoke for me. I would definitely go see Perry the way he sounds right now.

This is totally awesome. He's really coming back strong, This is leagues ahead of the first show. Funny I really dig the lower tuning. From silence to this is pretty amazing. He's working well within his limitations but not making a fool of himself.

Funny to read all of this and to think that IF (which isn't going to happen) SP reunited with Journey for even one show, how many diehards who don't like what they've heard in the past 10 days would be front and center swallowing the guys load, just to be at the show to say they were there. Throw in the loons and you'll be able to claim you've been to an orgy.

Glad he's out there because it makes him happy to do it. Hope he moves away from the Journey stuff, though he won't truly be able to because his fan base won't allow it, but, would love to hear anything new that he has.

With that said, everyone, carry on the battle!

If Perry releases an album soon, guaranteed platinum within 6 mos. Mark it! While he might not be 80's Journey voice, he still has charisma and his voice fits somewhere good, TBD, later, but soon. Give us an album of new songs!

I definitely agree with you on this. Actually, BECAUSE it is not 80's Journey voice is part of the reason this is true. His voice is just as powerful, but has a sound that may actually have greater appeal to a wider audience. The trick will be steering clear of any 80s sound at all and doing something new that fits modern contemporary audiences. I'm thinking some R&B, Soul, and AC stuff. Those styles are more in Perry's wheel house now, and honestly, probably what he prefers to sing over rock.

I'd like to see him on live at Daryl's House. Those two trading off vocals with Daryl's first rate band, who can play anything, would be great.

Agree 100%! Here's a preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwEOOgv5unE

Note Loggins and Hall hitting the same part over and over again while Perry just walks up and does something different each time. AWESOME!

As a side note, listen to Lewis a bit later. I think he sounds pretty good. Huey ran the same spec Nuemann mic with specials mods as Perry for recording. I need one ....

Awesome idea. I'd LOVE to hear those two trade verses on I'll Be Alright Without You... Daryl could bring something killer to that song vocally.

Gawd people get hung up on this. You'd swear he was singing like Cameron Diaz in the "My Best Friend's Wedding" or like the little Girl in "The Exorcist" the way some of you are harping on Perry.

I wish this was happening when he was 50 or 55 . I am sure he does too.
I really hope he gets to release the songs he would like too.
He hasn't lost the most important aspect the great ones have,
The raw emotion that touches and inspires people.

He sounded great, stepped down and all. It's difficult for hard core fans to hear their favorite songs stepped down. It takes a few listens to get used to it. I had a couple of cringes on first listen, but man, I'd rather listen to SP sing in any vocal condition sing than most anyone else.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

The Steve Perry World Tour continues! Perry back on stage in Los Angeles at The Orpheum.

Steve...

Please, please, please STOP singing "Open Arms"! I hate that AWFUL song! On another note, this guy sounds ridiculously good singing that Sam Cooke tune! I'm still blown away by how much he sounds like his old self on that song. I'm not sure what Steve's end game is here, or even if he has one, but you can tell that he's becoming more and more comfortable with this.
