Well, here's what McCain said about the swiftboaters...
McCain : I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable. As it is none of these individuals served on the boat (Kerry) commanded. Many of his crewmates have testified to his courage under fire. I think John Kerry served honorably in Vietnam.
The Swiftboat vets have been WIDELY discredited by Navy officials and many who served...and of course theres the fact that initial funding came mainly from a Houston home builder, Bob J. Perry, who has also given millions to the Republican party.
Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmm....[/

The SBV was complete and utter bullshit. The men who served under Kerry loved and admired him. They even wrote a letter, if you recall, that proved he earned his medals. The SBV ad was yet another example of neo-conservative hatemongering, and it makes me sick.
But around town, it was well known...when they got home at night
Their fat and psychopathic wives
Would thrash them within inches of their lives!

A letter hardly proves anything and the political killing fields are littered with liberal hatemongering so please don't shovel that bullshit here.

I won't discuss the SBV's further with anyone who is not willing to educate themselves by reading the book or watching the videos I mentioned. Right now they are only speaking out of ignorance. The facts are out there for them when they are ready. Man, we have some hacks around here, don't we?

I'm not. In fact I already stated that anyone who served should be taken at their word.

I completely disagree. Sounds respectful on the outside, but military service does not give anyone a free pass on telling the truth. Doesn't mean we need to question people needlessly, but in cases like this, no one gets a free pass. Plus, you create an unresolvable problem by doing so -- you'd have to take both Kerry and every Swift Vet at their word, and someone is clearly not telling the truth. Probably the guy who allowed his Presidential campaign to sink because he couldn't refute the charges of 200+ other veterans.

Hell, if anyone who's ever served their country in the military should be taken at their word, there would be a lot of scumbags who would get away with some pretty despicable stuff.
