I used to work as a RC volunteer. It is supposed to be offered, but sometimes due to politics and forced morality it is not, and that's a shame. They're supposed to give it right then and there so the victim doesn't have to go to the pharmacy which may or may not be open, which may or may not offer, and in some cases flat out refuses. No rape victim should have to go through that hassle and all the questions it poses.

Note, I said it is offered, not forced.

I'm sure it varies state to state, Mel, even clinic to clinic... in any case, same pill, different doses, different moral argument as to the acceptibility of the method based on when and how its taken. But that's a whole separate and unique matter from the basic discussion here of birth control pills, condoms, et al and how they relate to teenage sex, sex education, etc.

Why this whole thing about her granddaughter is a big deal, I don't know. Its a private family matter. These thing happen, and no family is immune from this kind of stuff. The talk about whether she should or would step down is ridiculous. If that were the case, every politician would have to step down due to (insert family secret here).

That is a shame. Also unfortunately, as I'm sure you know from volunteering there, not all victims will report it within that 24-48 hours also, sadly.

Here's what Dick Morris has to say regarding Palin (I typically find that I don't agree with him, but I do on this...)

Understand: Palin is under attack because she was such a good choice.

Remember the Democrats' central charge on McCain - "He's a Bush clone." By choosing Palin, something George Bush would never have done, McCain showed how really different he is.

The old ground rule for picking a running mate was to help the ticket carry a particular state. But Bill Clinton changed the rules when he tapped Al Gore in 1992. Clinton likely would've carried Tennessee anyway, but the choice of Gore emphasized the most important feature of Clinton's candidacy: He was from a new generation and represented a new outlook.

And so Sarah Palin reinforces the most important aspect of the McCain candidacy: Despite 30 years in Washington, he's an outsider and a dedicated foe of corruption and conflict of interest in government. He's the one who stands up against pork, earmarks and lobbyists and backs campaign-finance reform.

Palin brings the same kind of credentials to the ticket. When she speaks tonight and emphasizes her record of reform and her commitment to bring ethical standards to Washington, she'll strike a deeply resonant chord throughout the nation.

Another good quote by Dennis Miller about Palin...

I think she unnerves people who define their life by their need to be precious.

You're kidding, right? Biden is one of the most well-spoken and intelligent politicians in America. Palin is certainly going to hold her own, but she is a hypocrite when it comes to asserting her "experience" while belittling Obama's.

I tell you though, I am so disappointed in my gender right now. So much back biting, and for what? I tell you what, pea green envy. This woman is by no means lazy and other women who for whatever reason, whether it was chosen (which is admirable) or because they themselves don't have the where with all to stand up and be all they can be are taking the low road of "cattiness."

Who knows? Maybe tomorrow we'll wake up and find ourselves sweltering in our burkas to find out that Women's Lib was all a dream; much like the time that Pamela found Bobby alive in the shower on Dallas.

She has more decision making experience than Obama does. PERIOD. He has 144 active days in the Senate.

How long until the Big Right Machine attempts to turn Iraq's forcing the U.S. to give a specific withdrawal date into a "victory". Now, the surge is certainly working - although only time can tell if it's a temporary fix or a permanent development (and I pray it's the latter).

Speech was total ad hominem dreck and lowest common denominator pandering.
Pot shots interspersed with canned Hee-Haw zingers.
McCain's diminishing appeal to independents and moderates is now officially worn off.

What garbage.
McCain insiders have verified that McCain was truly keen on Leiberman as VP.
Palin isn't the choice of a maverick, its a red meat capitulation to the base.

That's a nice twist the Right has come up with there. He's been in the Senate for years...144 days during which actual votes were cast.

Anyway, neither one of them has much experience. It's more relevant in Obama's case since he would be the President, but McCain's age makes hers relevant, too.

JFK didn't have much experience, but he certainly got an A+ when he stared down the Russians and called their bluff - perhaps the most important decision any President of any nation has ever made. Nuclear annihilation was that close. Ask anyone who was alive back then...even the staunch conservatives.

No, I call sour grapes because Obama didn't pick Hilary for Vice President. It's not McCain's fault he chose Biden. In truth she should have been the Democratic nominee. Not a fan of hers, but at least I know where she stands.

Obama and a good chunk of his supporters (not all) are nothing more than a bunch of passive agressive cry babies. They thought they could rail Hilary out of the election before the majority of the states had cast their vote, they thought wrong. For this much, I am very proud of her tenacity.

Scarygirl, the PUMAs and bitter-pill Hillary supporters are being shortsighted by taking out their frustration on their own party. The real - and only - issue is the Democratic State Party leadership within Michigan and Florida. They are the one who chose to violate their party's laws and hold their primaries before their allotted time (not that I agree with the system - I think it's tripe - because an Iowa farmer's vote shouldn't matter more than mine). Had they allowed the votes to count, chaos would have ensured, and since that is a specialty of the Democratic party, they were wise to head it off at the pass.

I understand that, but there was considerable pressure for Hilary to quit before all the states were counted. Mathmatically impossible, true, but wrong imo.
