Can't hardly believe all this whining just because some little guy misses his mommy.

Talk the Vets out here, d@mnit.
Ever been stuck in a 3rd world country in the same $hithole for months on end?
Ever been on a ship for 6+ months?
How about living in an amtrac, eating MREs, and not having a decent shower?
And oh btw, sometimes the bad guys are shooting at you too.

Geez. This is a singer in a rock band. Nothing more.

Just read the actual interview. He wasn't whining. He was answering questions with honest answers, not based on spin handed to him by a record executive. It was actually refreshing to hear him as a real person, instead of some sounding board that says only what he thinks people want to hear.

None of this is sounding too good for those who are reinvigorated by Arnel's addition to the band. He is clearly someone who doesn't sound like he's enjoying himself. I actually feel badly for the guy, after reading the interview. Perhaps this will wake Schon up and he'll attempt a more "normal" touring schedule. You'd think after blowing through 75 lead singers that the guy would catch on. He simply doesn't seem to understand that although his fingers can handle non-stop touring, a human voice simply cannot stand up to the rigors...especially trying to sing Perry's music! Pineda really sounds like a guy who landed a gig that isn't half as glamorous as he thought it was going to be. It sounds like the novelty has already worn off!

Understand, my bad. I agree that he is living a dream. But I also think that this has to be a tremendous adjustment to him, and understand the sense sympathy that he does receive, even though a great deal of it is over the top.

Mmmm.
I think since 1998 it's been proven that "he whom they could not speak of" would never have wanted Journey to go it alone.

He clearly didn't from '98 on, so an educated inference can conclude that same would apply from '87-'95, '97.

I didn't claim that Perry supported the band carrying on without him. My point was that he didn't 'steal' the years from Cain and Schon...

Anyway...just the read article...and I have to say...if I was part of Journey's managament team I'd be a bit pissed off with Arnel to be honest. Okay...he misses his kids...fair enough...but why put such a dampner on the current revival? And in Rolling Stone of all places?

In the full unedited version of his Rolling Stone interview that Brywool linked here it definitely puts things into context with the Q & A format. Shame on Rolling Stone for using that sensationalistic title "sad Journey" and "curse." in the edited version. The curse he was talking about was the job was fantastic but it's a curse to fill such big shoes, meaning Steve Perry's. The Q & A shows it to be more balanced. Arnel had great things to say and was honest about the hardships.

I think they're already two threads here with the extended version of the interview.

Thanks, Gunbot. I just saw that and went back and edited my original post. Sorry. Personally, I don't think Arnel will ever give this job up until his voice fails. His best friend in the band he left in the Philippines had to have an operation recently. They obviously don't have health insurance. The hospital bill was - I can't remember - around maybe $4,000. He didn't have it. Arnel's fans all contributed money towards covering it. Well, that means Arnel's financial condition was the same, as they had played in bands together since he was probably 20, so, obviously, making the same money. I don't see him giving this up unless he physically can't, like he said.

Agreed.
I think the rest of the members thought that sooner or later he'd feel like it again (hell I even think Perry figured he'd recharge sooner than he did and greenlight Journey again after Against The Wall) and they duly held out all that time b/c let's face it, Infinity clear through ROR was an absolute musical embarrassment of riches, the material is that good.
It was worth (but ultimately fruitless) the band giving it the benefit of the doubt.

No duel for me. I did my part protecting Arnel's honor by that statement. I will now finish a glass of wine, take a sleeping pill, walk the dog and call it a day. I'm too tired to defend his honor anymore today. Peace.

If Arnel bails, Deen will have to step up.
Chalfant and Jeremey have already proven they will brook no bullshit.

Don't worry, Arnel is going nowhere. He loves the guys and loves the gig. He's just road weary towards the end of the tour. He was just online stating to his fans over there what a great concert they were going to have with the greatest band. He was in a great mood. :P :P

I've already sworn off seeing the band live again and have lived up to it thus far. If they don't call it a day after Arnel is gone, I'd be hard pressed to find a good reason to buy any new studio material.

I had enough misgivings with Jeff – who, to his professional credit, apologized for the band’s sins and promised never to fuck the fans.
Even with that, I was still on the fence.
I am always up for new tunes, but my desire to see them live is gone.
Friends who have seen the tour have all said Heart is owning both acts.
