I can tell you personally he has said he wanted to do rerecords many times. They were hyping this idea in 2006. I am a ever present witness to this many times over.
I believe you. I meant as far as re-recording and
releasing it. I don't think he wanted to do
that...but I could be wrong.
That cuts Perry out of the loop, except for his writing royalty. Which, by all accounts, should be done if he's no longer with the band.
Perry won't get a recording royalty but he still gets writing royalties.
Check out these numbers
Gerry Rafferty - BakerStreet - $50,000 a year
Andy Williams - Can't take my eyes off of you - $150,000 a year
Don McLean - American Pie - $150,000 a year
Paul McCartney - Mull of Kintyre - $150,000 a year
Brendan Graham - You Raise Me Up - Over a million a year (the song has been covered by over one hundred acts in the 10 years since it was wrote)
Having more then one songwriter means less of a cut per song but then again Journey had quite a few hits. Perry won't get a recording royalty for the songs on disc two of revelation but he will always get writing royalties unless he signs them away for a one time payment that would have to be close to the sum of what the royalties are projected to earn for him over his life time. This is why I have never bought into the notion that Neal or Cain are broke, there is just too much money coming in.
Edit = Look on the songwriting credits on Revelation, if Dude's name is there, he is getting paid.
