Really?

My wife and I were both listening and it sure as hell sounded like AP. Maybe someone else who was there will confirm.

Manny fought a hard, disciplined fight. Fuck the announcers ... I thought Clottey's fight plan was genius ... but Pacquiao didn't get frustrated and play along. I think Clottey was trying to get Manny frustrated and have Manny make a mistake when trying to knock him out and pounce on an unguarded Pacquiao. But Manny stayed disciplined and just took what Clottey gave him. Excellent fight, but I think Clottey should have opened it up a bit more in the last 2 rounds when it was quite obvious that Pacquiao wasn't going to play along. He should have went for broke, but I think he wanted the badge of saying he went the distance. I'm sure Hatton wishes he could say that.

I highly doubt that Arnel was in the ring after the fight, but I stopped watching it after Manny thanked the whole world.

I guess Arnel just happened to have a band all set up to sing that, instead of Survivor blasting from the speakers?

Clottey just being there was a victory for him. He loses to Cotto in June and gets rewarded with the biggest payday of his career by doing absolutely nothing. Dude will probably get more of a work out banging his girlfriend tonight than the energy he expended during this fight.

Not that I blame Clottey. Someone gives you money like that and you're expected to lose, why risk your health for guaranteed cash?

Boxing.

12 million

Clottey got a million. 33 years old and this was his biggest payday. #1 contender? Yeah, right. Oh well, thank god for the internet so people don't have to pay to watch sparring sessions like this.

Hatton just announced his retirement didn't he. I read where his net worth is 60 million dollars. That really surprised me.

Don't be surprised if Mosley drops him. Really, there is only one big fight out there, boxing is just not that entertaining anymore.

Just like the dominence of Lennox Lewis killed the popularity of the Heavy divisions, what appeal is there for the lower weights beyond a Pacquiao/ Mayweather fight?

How does Manny have time to run for congress and, if elected, do that, and then still box?

wow, third largest crowd in boxing history.

How does Manny think he can sing? I don't get it. I saw him on Jimmy Kimmel and he was singing and I thought it was a joke, not that he thought he could sing.

You have to remember, it's a third world country, they're not voting for this guy because of his degree in political science.

He can go around the barangay, throw out a few bags of rice and flash those Jewel encrusted championship belts and it will all be good.

This guy gets more kudos as a singer than Arnel does, how fucked up is that?

I thought Arnel did fine. The timing at the end seemed off but with no musical accompaniment, that's understandable.

Now, why doesn't he use use that clear tenor voice when he is singing covers instead of pretending he's Bryan Adams or Russel Hitchcock?

In 2007, while in the thick of preparing for an April bout with Mexican Jorge Solis in Texas, Pacman did run for Congress in the elections scheduled barely a month later...Manny KOd the challenger, but suffered a lopsided political defeat to a feisty California-born lady. Thought then that he was done dabbling in that arena dirtier than boxing.

He's got more money to throw around this time. If you're not in a political family, Celebrity status and money are the next best things when it comes to qualifying.

I always prefer this ending (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKhHu77wo_Q) rather than this 'high-end' take. It is almost always sounded forced. Anyway, great job for AP though. Miles better than Martin.

How I wish Manny will not run even though he is sincere in helping the people. He can still help without running behind an 'office'.

Btw, funny punch there:

that's what his trainer, Freddie Roach, said in a Sports Illustrated article, a few more bouts maybe, but after Mayweather retire at the top. There is no one that can touch him. And his trainer, who suffers from Parkinson symptoms b/c he didn't get out when he should have, doesn't want that to happen to Manny. Really interesting article by his trainer talking about all the moochers on Manny's payroll. And he seems to care about his fighters, instead of wanting someone like Manny to keep on so he can make money off of him. Now, that's a rariety, actually caring about your fighter's health longtermwise and not just your pocketbook.

Several responses to thoughts posted above me:

- That was a rare act of classlessness on Manny's part when he threw the double handed "clapping" punch. He's better than that.

- Gunbot's right ... Mosely has an excellent shot at beating Mayweather.

- Boxing will be fine assuming the winner of Mayweather/Mosely faces Pacquiao, and the fight is good. It sets up a rematch ... and possibly a "rubber match." So, at the very least, boxing has a year left.

- Pacquiao is not going to retire before the mega-fight. Filipinos should roundly reject the notion of voting for him and make him stay in boxing!

That may have been the only indication that Manny was losing his patience with Clottey's game plan. Sorry, but watching the way Clottey fought the first 2/3 of the fight was a bit frustrating as a spectator too. For Pac's size, he is just tough as nails. I'm impressed with his stamina.

are you kidding me? Go stab your fellow countryman in the back, why don't you?

The National Historical Institute said Sunday it is filing a complaint against Journey lead singer Arnel Pineda for changing the tone and tempo of the Philippine national anthem when he sang it before the Pacquiao-Clottey bout in Texas.

Pineda sang the anthem “Lupang Hinirang" (Beloved Land) during Pacquiao’s successful bout against Joshua Clottey of Ghana on Saturday (Sunday in Manila), his powerful, high-pitched voice filling the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

But Teddy Atienza, chief of the Heraldry Section of the NHI, was not pleased. A “24 Oras" report quoted him as saying that they would file a complaint against Pineda before the Department of Justice for his “wrong" version of the national anthem.

The NHI is the government body tasked to ensure respect for the national anthem, Philippine flag and other national symbols.

Under Section 37 of Republic Act 8491 or the Flag and Heraldic Code, the national anthem must be sung in accordance with the original musical arrangement of composer Julian Felipe, who gave it a marching tempo. Violators may be fined P5,000 to P20,000 or jailed for a year.

Pineda, for his part, defended his version, saying he sang it with all his heart. He said he would ask his lawyer to deal with the complaint once it is filed.

Pineda, who rose to fame in 2007 when members of the US-based band discovered him on YouTube, belted out before a crowd of almost 51,000 boxing fans his somewhat slow rendition of "Lupang Hinirang".

Fucking ludicrous. He didn't even sing it on Philippine soil. Filipinos all around the world should stop singing the anthem immediately. Give em 5000 pesos if that's what makes this corrupt agency happy.

I knew the ending wasn't correct. Seriously, if you didn't see this coming you had to be be blind. Arnel has money and he is NOT part of that special clique of entertainers in the Philippines who can do no wrong. I think if Charice had been a bit older they would have already gotten her with one of these fines. Thjs jealousy stems from the fact that two unknowns could be living the dream that the rest of these over hyped, talent show amateurs can only dream about.

20,000 Philippine pesos = 438.22 U.S. dollars. Throw them some C-Notes and tell them to go fuck themselves. On second thought, better not or they'll throw him in Jail for being disrespectful.

What a night and honor for Arnel, for Manny to have been wanting him, of all the singers in the Phils, to sing for him in his fight, and this was a huge turnout, over 50,000 peple, so I'm sure a proud moment for him, considering he was in obscurity two years ago, and then this. Well, at least, he must feel better that Martin got hit with this too.
