The word I would use to describe it, after the initial few listens, is "forgettable." That probably ties in to what everyone has observed about the re-hashing of chords, themes, etc.
Compare that to Arrival, which I still play as frequently as any other album by any other artist in my collection, and it still sounds fresh to me (nearly 10 years after its release). I don't know if I can put my finger on the exact reason, but Arrival is just much, much stronger than Revelation in my opinion.

Since when do critics matter? Revelation was forgettable 80's throwback music...that's all.
I happen to agree w/this ...Revelation, blah ...I can't even hum a melody from it!!
Well, you might have to listen to more than once.

I saw them live more than that, post~Revelation!!
Sadly, noone around me knew this music, yet it went
platinum?!?! I guess the same people who buy and listen
to Revelation don't attend the shows!!![]()
I listened a few times and there were a couple of ok melodies,
the point is ...if I don't hear them, ever again, I don't feel
like I'd be missing anything ...
Now, take away ...Baby I'm Leaving You and BAM ...I'm lost!!
I still listen to Revelation at least once a week, is it Infinity or Escape? No, But I enjoy it. Don't really care if it sounds like the 80s and Neal lights it up.
And please quit bringing up THAT song. Now I can't get it out of my head!

I disagree. They are living off the past just as much as a successful Elvis impersonator is. If you took Journey's past with Steve Perry out of the equation, they would have no hits - and no hits means no tour.

If you took Journey out of the equation, Perry would still be on a turkey ranch. Make believe scenarios are stupid.
You should blame the fans more than anything, as they are the ones that are living in the past and want to hear the Dirty dozen at every show. Can't blame Journey for trying to please the fans. There has been 4 new CD's since perry, and if any new material is played on Tour, most people don't give a shit. Also, in todays music environment, it's not exactly easy for a band like Journey to start topping the charts with their new "hits"

But why would they? A band has every right to re-record its own songs and, considering they weren't going to be re-released and no one was buying the album for the re-records, I see no reason why they wouldn't.portland wrote:Neal was the one who started the NOMTA???? right??...um YES

I know it's 6 letters and that's probably a bit tough for you, but it's "NOMOTA." Anyway, 100% incorrect, but I wouldn't expect someone with an atom-sized brain to be able to figure out that they re-recorded Journey songs, and that's something they have every right to do ... especially considering they weren't going to be re-released. Additionally, all of you jacktrackers argue that the Pinoys are the only ones that bought Revelation so, according to you, no "hardcore" fans even heard the re-records. So, why the hissy fit?portland wrote:Now the songs made famous with the Tails are the ones that people want to hear on the

For the most part, yes. The 80's era Journey had everything going for it. The greatest lineup and the greatest time to play that sort of music. Which is why you never hear anything from FTLOSM, TBF or any other Journey related music on the air (and, to a degree, even ROR). This very same thing can be said for countless other bands. Just more vaginal clapping trying to insinuate that the Perry-less Journey is the only band from that era that's not on the radio anymore.portland wrote:and who is called for the interviews about said songs?? Tails again??
Are you intentionally flaunting your stupidity or are you just fucking with me??? Of course the guy that actually sang the songs is going to be the one called. Who the fuck did you think they were gonna call ... Larry Londin?portland wrote:Sooooo shut your blower.....
Go suck Gary Coleman's dick.portland wrote:for them now it's about the money...not the music.
Considering they continue to put out albums when they could tour endlessly, release nothing and still pack sheds, I'd have to say you're wrong. But that's something you should be used to.

And it would still be that way if Perry were fronting the band. Just ask U2 and Bon Jovi. The renaissance is in pretty much all 80's music.

Let's also ask Bon Jovi where they would be today, if they hadn't waited for their frontman to get his shit together when he "had to jump off the merry-go-round" for awhile too, back between the New Jersey and Keep The Faith eras.........shall we?
He also has a much more faithful group ...Ritchie could go it alone!!Eric wrote:Deb wrote:Saint John wrote:Michigan Girl wrote:the classics are what they want ...notta nothin' new?!?!

He didn't "jump off the merry-go-round" for 8 years, do a solo tour, do an album and jump back off again for 2 years with no word either.
Just to be fair.

True, more like 5 years or so, and JBJ did do an album in that time too..............the full Young Guns soundtrack.

Agreed.
And as far as Bon Jovi is concerned, it would be kind of hard to move on with a band without the person the band is named after. I know many of you wanted Journey to be called The Steve Perry band (some dream that it was), but it in the real world it wasn't.
Less than ?!?! ...I disagree, they would not be less relevant. If he were still in the Band it probably would be by now. Can you imagine the music? TBF meets FTLOSM..... That's seriously why it doesn't bother me that he's not with the Band anymore. Solo, which won't happen, Id listen to, but he would have killed them with the musical direction and
they would be less relevant now.
