Listen to Higher Place - bam! Jumps out of the gates and grabs you instantly.

City of Hope is more of Generations basically. Or JRNY doing a John Farnham b-side.

All in all, I love Arrival. But Higher Place never really did it for me and will usually skip it. I'm glad other folks like it so much, tho.

Me too!! I'm not wild about Higher Place either. I'm with Jana, I love World Gone Wild, but it's #2 to Livin' To Do. Love that song!! From Revelation it's Change for the Better, What I Needed and Why Did I Lose Your Love. I also love Faith in the Heartland and gotta go with the original. I don't think I could list them, since they do change a bit!!! COH is moving up since it's definitely catchy and I've had it stuck in my head all day. I'm still waiting for the rest of the new songs.

I like a lot of the post-Perry stuff, some not so much. Live and Breathe at the moment is my fav Augeri-sung title and Where Did I Lose Your Love is hands down my Fav Arnel title. HDILYL hooked me the very first time I heard it. It has so many layers to it and Deen is just bombastic on that track. I really like COH so far. It's got a lot of the things I like going on in it. Can't wait to hear some more of the still unplayed stuff!

Live and Breathe is my absolute favorite on Arrival. I think I even started a thread about it once on here. I consider it practically a masterpiece by Journey. Though I love We Will Meet Again, also. WDILYL is really a great song, and it was great live in the Manila concert DVD.
But TDTWT will always be my favorite on Revelation. The song is beautiful. I love Arnel's warm vocal tone and the piano and guitar is really great. Love the melody and meaning to the song.

I like how elemental Live and Breathe is. Starts out with this ominous, driving bass played in a minor key that seems to be focused- as if it's headed somewhere and you're following its lead. Then Stevie's crystal clear voice set in that high register joins in and you just feel like you're along for the ride. Then the chorus becomes melodic and it shifts to major chords and back and forth. Yeah, I really like that one. TDTWT didn't do a thing for me. I could sit here and list the things I don't like about the song but what would be the point. And like you, there are many people who found it to be a treasure from Revelation - and that's great! Journey songs have always had a way of finding their way into people's hearts and staying there - that's just the way their songs are sometimes.

And one of reasons I love We Will Meet Again is the intro, also. The way the drums comes in, then the haunting piano overlaying that, then Neal's guitar overlaying that and then the vocals come on., just love it Great backing vocals. All the instruments throughout are just wonderful. Love Deen's drumming. Just one of my favs off Arrival

Where Did I Lose Your Love is my fav off of Revelations. For some reason, it reminds me of Eric Martin's version of Stop in the Name of Love

I'm with you on WWMA. Just another reason why Arrival ranks up there with Infinity and Escape for me.

All the Things
Livin to Do
World Gone Wild
Live and Breathe
Nothin Comes Close
To Be Alive Again
Kiss Me Softly
We Will Meet Again

throw in Loved by You with Neal's signature solo and that's 9 very solid songs, pretty much a complete album that near reaches "classic" status for me.

Neal had mentioned in one of his early interviews about Eclipse that this would be (I'm paraphrasing here) an 'artsy' album that he thought might be more appreciated in Europe.

These singles are released by Frontiers. Imports are usually released first..especially CD's. Journey's deal with Frontiers probably guarantees they get to release the singles, and the full album, before there is a US release. It probably has NOTHING to do with the timing of the tour, or anything else...just Frontiers doing their thing.

Anybody want to guess who gets the full album released first...Frontiers or Wal-mart? I'd say your a fool if you vote for Wal-mart.

And that's a bad decision. Once Frontiers gets it, the internet will explode. Torrents and P2P sites will all have it.

Companies need to learn to release eveything at the same time......

What is the point of Frontiers releasing it over seas if people over there can get the US version for cheap? The fact is that it costs less for them to buy an imported US copy...THAT is why they demand to release the foreign markets first...not because of the timing of a tour. Frontiers would rather tell Journey to fuck off and let the foreigners download a free copy then have everything release at once.

If Journey wants to release in foreign markets, they have to play the game...or, just release in the US only.

From PlanetRock:

The song, 'City Of Hope', is the first track to be lifted from forthcoming new studio album Eclipse and Lucio gave the song its UK debut a little after 8am this morning - tell us what you thought below.

First comment.

Just caught the tail end of COH on 96.9 The Eagle here in Sacramento. Sorry if I missed it, but wasn't it only supposed to be released in Europe?

Only the retail part. If you remember, Never Walk Away was being played on radio before Revelation came out but wasn't available for purchase until the same day the album came out. With Frontiers Italy giving COH and Human Feel away for free on their website, not a big surprise that stations here might grab them.
I see they played it right after Wheel In The Sky.

Okay I may get shot for this....

Listened to the new single a few times...

There were nice some moments here and there (musically) but I really didn't dig the song.
I was left with a kind of 'meh' feeling.

Hopefully the other tracks are better.

No, I agree. The chorus for COH just isn't *quite* there. I remember FITH getting flack for being weak, but I think it's heads and shoulders above COH.

Re: Arnel's diction...
I'm not convinced it comes into play in this particular instance. There are so many songs over the years I've been guilty of singing misheard lyrics to and then heard someone else singing the correct lyrics or I read them, and more times than not, when I go back and listen to the part of the song in question armed with the correct lyrics, they come through plain as day. In those cases, I blame my brain for not hearing what was actually said. The pisser is when you don't find out until years later you've been singing the wrong lyrics. It's almost impossible to stop yourself from singing them incorrectly anymore! I's still pissed at myself for learning part of the lyrics to Still They Ride wrong. For some reason I heard, "...on wings of fire. They rule tonight".

"Excuse me, while I kiss this guy..."

"On a dark desert highway, Cool Whip in my hair..."

Even some of the classics of rock history have famously misheard lyrics. I can't understand half of what Mick Jagger sings and there was a funny scene with Whoopi Goldberg in the movie 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' where she was trying to decipher the lyrics for a code and couldn't make out anything:

"I was raised by two strange lesbians..."

anything written by Dylan would fit in the misunderstood lyric category...

Why do they need long choruses? Maybe the point of Eclipse is to rock! Maybe they are keeping the choruses short and not too wordy so Neal can get to it faster! (I am hoping!)

Because the chorus and catchy hooks have always been what defines Journey. The whole thing about hiring Arnel was to augment that legacy sound according to Jon Cain. As people have said, if the band wanted to rock, they should have kept Soto. If they want to sound like their 75 million records that are out there (Jon's statement) why are they trying to be a hard rock band now?

So, there you have it. Journey said one thing and three years later, they are doing something different. I'm cool with them rocking but if others don't like it, who can blame them when the band basically reversed themselves from what they said three years ago?

So, there you have it. Journey said one thing and three years later, they are doing something different. I'm cool with them rocking but if others don't like it, who can blame them when the band basically reversed themselves from what they said three years ago?

Because the chorus and catchy hooks have always been what defines Journey. The whole thing about hiring Arnel was to augment that legacy sound according to Jon Cain. "The Legacy sound and THEN SOME" also Jon Cain`s words!
With all respect for Soto..he couldn`t reproduce the legacy sound Pineda can and more and that is the reason why Pineda is Journey`s singer.
Pineda is Augeri and Soto combined!
