I appreciate what you said Lula....as a Mom of an autistic daughter, it means a lot hearing a special ed teacher say that.

A-FRIGGIN'-MEN!!! My daughter is FAS due to her poor-excuse-for-a-birthmother. I hesitate to even use the term "mother" because of the damage she inflicted on her, not to mention that she abandoned her to live in an orphanage for the first six years of her life without even so much as a visit the entire time. Booze was apparently more important.

Anyway, she has some learning difficulties and behavior problems because of it. She struggles with her memory and language skills. We've gone a hell of a lot since we adopted her but I don't look at her as being less than any other kid her age. Yes, she has struggles and probably always will to some degree but she is still precious and God has an awesome plan for her life.

My pleasure MSR. I may be a push over in my personal life, but when it comes to children, especially those with special needs I am a staunch advocate. I have a few studnets with autism. Love those kids :D

Well he got all excited
He just loves sticks... :P

He's on his way over to your house as we speak
His beak is sharp and he does need something to chew on
He's been whittling away at clothes pins
turning them into tooth picks
Maybe he can peck on your woody wood pecker :P

I admire your helping out this child.

Well, I never had a child
closest I come is with my young parrot.
So no pickin on my winged child

I respect every parent for the awesome responsibility and committment a child is.
It;s not easy and each of them tries to do there best but come with there own limitations.

We have to study a booklet , take a test & get a license to drive a car but unfortunately anyone has the right to bring a child into this world. We need to have insurance & have our cars inspected every year for safety but there is not one single thing a society can to to ensure that children come into this world under the best circumstances.
There on there own the victim of the act of conception & like it or not they have no choice in the matter.
Sometimes they don;t have good healthcare or nutrition or are just not even able to take care of themselves & it's the innocent child and society that suffers. Still we have not the right to control what is considered and inborn right to being a human being.

Not everyone has the patience & understanding & selflessness & even funds to bring up a healthy educated child in this world.
most households have to have both parents working to even get by while children are raised by daycare. Maybe this is not a bad thing. Hopefully these caregivers will be professionally trained and able to address there needs.
Still who knows the long term affect on development of a child who is see sawed back and forth from day to day at a early age.
Society does it's part to try to make sure some sort of fundamental health care is accessable to the disadvantaged. but it is really not fair to put the burden on others.

No one is too blame
this is the cycle of life and each of us have our own part in it.

Now this is getting really heavy
but we have touched on some important fundamental issues.
To affect change
you have to get to the core of the problem.
not lashing out in anger and applying bandaids.

All I am saying is what we are born into this world with is really out of our hands
What is important is that we nurture the best out of everything that we are given.

His wings are clipped so he can't fly very high or long but he can fly
They grow back though so no harm
It was done by the breeder to keep him from flying into glass and things

Image
That's his play gym
where he spends most of his day.
He's very good
He stays up there and plays with his toys and eats.
He has everything he needs.
He has a window to look out and a bit of sun in the morning
Fresh herbs and hot peppers
he loves those.

He gets misted & take a bath

I am amazed how good he is
and I am just happy he's happy
He sings and just enjoyslife on the top of his cage
but I go put him in his cage at bedtime.

He's a special bird
No doubt about it

I've been more than clear. My rant was against the term "retarded" being used inappropriately.

As for how I see my son: you are the one out of line to make such presumptions. You haven't a clue as to how I see my son nor what my relationship is with him. Frankly, it's none of your business. I haven't posted "shortcomings" here. I remarked that having limitations that disable a person from being independent are NOT fortunate things. For you or anyone to say otherwise is insensitive and ignorant. Furthermore, it's entirely unrealistic. Limitations that keep a person from their independence is a travesty not something of fortune. <- TO CLARIFY: this is a statement of fact NOT a reflection of how I view anything about my son. The fact that I recognize this fact serves to help me help him overcome his limitations so that he may be independent one day.

I'm well aware of my son's gifts as well as our two other's. Read a book...? I constantly read on the subject but more importantly I LIVE IT EVERY DAY. Every breath I take is for our children.

What an ignorant and insensitive thing you just said.

I hear your pain at your son's limitation but it would be much better for you to dwell on his love of life & the things that he can do and take advantage of everything to make both your lives happier. Don;t think that he doesn't feel your feelings & wonder why you are judging him against others instead of judging him for the unique wonderful human being he is and will probably grow up with more love and compassion in his heart than most of his peers.
Don't do him a misjustice by adding to his limitations. All children grow up with some sort of thing they are picked on for and it mentally scars them no matter how insignificant it really is but when we are young we are very impressionable. I found that children can be the worst. There is this competition in them to try to feel better so they pick on and belittle anything to tear down everyone else so that they will feel bigger inside. I suppose its just an inborn feeling of insecurity and misplaced protection instinct but children can be vicious.

It's importnt for parents to try to instill a sense of worthiness no matter the hand of cards there children have have been dealt.
You have the greatest power in your own two hands to help build for your son a strong foundation that he can take with him throughout his life. the world is not an easy place for any of us and it doesn;t help to go around blaming others.

We all facing this together
Our world is full of chemicals and carcingens affecting the air we breath and the water we drink
It's in the food we eat
It's the price we pay for technology.
There are no simple solutions but awareness is a good start.
Blame does nothing but waste time that could be better spent...

Good grief. I appreciate this but please see my response to Lula.

That is what I responded to. From that statement, well it seems that your focus is on limitations rather than nurturing. I never claimed a child with special needs is fortunate, but rather pointed out my displeasure with those that consider a child with special needs to be misfortunate/unfortunate. From reading Dave's responses to you just goes to show this is pointless. Dave pretty much makes sense ;).

I was trying to give someone the benefit of the doubt.
I thought perhaps I heard hurt in there tone.
Excuse me for caring & for lending my opinion.
I see my thoughts have been run over and thrown to the side of the road like road kill.

I see now it;s some sort of a vendettsa.
Someone has to pay
so why not make all of us miserable.

Perhaps unfortunately for \there son (that is if they even have a son) they have passed onto him their fine genetics.
Now they come here trying to make all of us responsible for the state of the world and wreck havoc in our great forum..
I don;t know who they are but as for myself I smell a rat.
I have heard enough about this whole retarded turn of events our great D'Avatars thread has morphed into.

I think it was nice of the forum to lend some compassion & offer some advice
but I have no wish to continue rehashing this retarded issue over & over again.

One thing I learned in teaching a bird
You got to be very careful
Best thing to do is to only reward the positive behaviors.
That is don;t speak, look notice or yell at something you dislike
for a bird takes any sort of attention as Hmmmm I got a response so I;ll try that one again....
That does seem retarded but that's the way a bird thinks or rather reacts to its surroundings

I wonder if that would work with people
Arrr heck I guess not as birds don;t understand punishment
It's not in there make up to hurt just for the fun of it
I suppose people are not as socially aware as birds & are well versed in negativity

My final word to all is not to feed the trolls.
No matter what disguise they may take
Today it's retarded
tomoorow who knows?

I agree, budgies are not retarded
I'm sure they are quite intelligent fine feathered friends with other budgies
but budgies and tiels do not get along well together
Budgies are more agressive and annoy the heck out of tiels
constanting badgering and picking on them....

That is your assumption of my statement and not my intended meaning
I was just stating that different species of birds just don;t get along because of there differences.
We are not birds and hopefully we are all the same species...

I prefer the company of tiels to budgies.
I am no budgie
I don;t make noise and argeument just to hear my own voice.
Tiels will defend themselves
but they don;t go around looking for an arguement.

Quite the contrary, I would say I am a tiel as compared to a budgie so I disagree with your conclusion.

Budgies are always chattering away and it doesn;t all make any sense to me
Tiels communicate more on a level I m comfortable with

Heck we all like to have fun but lets not transfer the budgie/tiel anology to far...LOL

I agree\We went from pure fun & fantasy
We're taken on a detour through social morals and parenting
Now were realizing we are free to soar with the birds
if we choose to...
We are all prisoners of our human condition....

I'm sure they are quite intelligent fine feathered friends with other budgies

Budgies are more agressive and annoy the heck out of tiels
constanting badgering and picking on them....

So we're budgies and tiels are BTers

It was a parenting thread last night, looks like it's a bird thread tonight....So.......you guessed it, I'm off for a shower now, got me a Donald Duck from the local store today

Well, I guess Ted has never been a bird
Perhaps in his next life he will come back as a bird
& will experience being the target of his own sport.

To kill for survival & sustenance is one thing
but to kill for the thrill is a total disregard for the precious gift of life.

Sure we all have killed
A spider
A fly

A mosquito
a roach
as I have

Last three I will still kill
but I do try to trap & release any lost spiders of flies that find there way in my home
except lately the flies have been getting the swat

As for flies I ask them to leave
Some go to the window wanting to be let out
some don;t
then it;s war
as they bother the bird
I don;t know if they bite or just annoy
but he cries out when one is near him
So heck I feel bad for them but
mess with my bird and your dead...

So
What's next with the Adventure's of D'Avatar?
