Correct me if I'm wrong...but sexy lingerie rarely goes down well as an apology present.

Don't you mean Matt Damon?
Either way, great movie!

Yeah, I'm sure it is. And I'm sure the 40,000 people who line up to buy it will love it to death...will it make any waves on what's left of radio in America? Doubt it very seriously...and by the way, this is more a criticism of what has become of the airwaves in this country than an indictment of the band.
And as great as this line up is (and I agree that they kick ass) face it ya'll...there is only one "line-up" that's gonna deliver this band to the land of all things relevant, and that's if/when Steve Perry comes back. It's the endgame. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it!

But does anybody care?
Would Perry land the band a charting single? Absolutely.
But, who really cares?
Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, U2, Nickelback.....etc..etc....

Leppard's album BRIEFLY was on the charts then died. When was their last hit single?
Bon Jovi turned country.
Aerosmith is starting to fade chart wise.
U2 & Nickelback do get a lot of play. Agree with you there, although neither are anything like Journey.

But AR...at least DL made it on the album chart...maybe it didn't sell on because it was crap...rather than because 'arena rock' no longer appeals to anyone.
As for Aerosmith...their career has always had its ups and downs chartwise....even in the late 70s and 80s too...but they are still charting.
Bon Jovi started that cowboy crap with "Wanted: Dead Or Alive" and that was in the late 80s. But the album which has sold 7.5 million copies since 2001 was not a country album. They're still a melodic rock group...
As are U2 and Nickelback. Yes, there are some big differences between them and Journey - but they're in the same broad genre of music.
I just don't buy all those excuses from the Augeri days that the charts don't matter...that melodic rock is dead...that its better not to have a record deal...etc.
Sure, the most important thing is that Journey are great live and that they record a first-rate album again...but Journey didn't sell 75 million records by accident...they cared deeply about commercial success and industry clout. And then they stopped caring and settled for a third-rate career...and that must partly why they became so sluggish and uninspired in the last two or three years.
At last Journey seem to want it all again...and if they hit the Billboard chart again with JSS you can bet we won't be hearing 'the charts don't mater' line that often. It'll be a real achievement worth celebrating.
Great post. It's ALL about charting. That's what puts money in your pocket. Some people say touring does, but they're wrong, very wrong. Had Journey not charted in the first place, there woudn't be ANY touring now. And I agree, they DO want it all again. BUT, they need a label, promotion and someone at the helm who gives a shit. Couple that with a good album and they WILL chart, not to mention become relevant again.

Charting now with the soundscan system is very different than when Journey used to be on the charts. An album can debut at say #9 in the first week when all the die hards go and buy it. (See Kiss, Def Leppard, etc). Then the album is virtually gone in the next week or so. That kind of charting on billboard doesn't mean very much.
It is ALL about touring and merchandise for veteran bands.
Iron Maiden just had a top ten debut in the U.S. for the first time ever. Watch and see what happens in the 2nd week and over all sales.
AR wrote:Just checked - Yeah debuted at #16, but has only sold 140,000 copies. Nice in this era, but I'm sure they are much happier being out on the road with Journey and drawing 20,000 tickets a night.
Fuck it then. Bring back Augeri, go back to tapes and forget about new music. You're a fuckin' buzz kill dude. By the way, Yeah sucked, not to mention it was one of those karaoke albums.

Didn't mean to kill your buzz. I loved the new lineup! Agree with you about "Yeah" as well.
I'll be as happy as anyone if Journey somehow breaks through with a huge record. Didn't mean to say otherwise. I just prefer to enjoy the shows and records regardless of what they sell.
I'll post the pics in another thread. Hope Niggy & Deano don't mind.
