I attended the San Bernardino show this past Saturday, and I must say that Journey absolutely was the more memorable performance. I am a Def Leppard fan, but honestly, Joe Elliot cannot compare with the vocal skills of Jeff Scott Soto. He holds his own as a frontman, working the stage as does JSS, but he can't deliver all the notes like they're delivered on record. This was an incredible show, and those that are non believers have not witnessed first hand this new line-up.

The energy is high, each band member looks like they are having the time of their life, and the audience is going crazy from the first note. The weather sucked, but Journey delivered the goods. I personally would be very excited to see what the band has in store for their fans, and if a new album is part of the future?

I think the draw with the co-headliner tour is equal, since I could not decern a difference in response from the audience with either band, but from a delivery standpoint, Journey had no equal that night. Jeff nails the songs, and although not exactly perry, he has the perry power behind his voice and has enough similiarity to Perry to please even the most critical fans. I heard many around me expressing amazement at the delivery and some stating " who is this guy, or wow, just listen to this guy"

I personally liked Steve Augeri, but the band would absolutely be taking a giant step backward if they don't move forward with the current lineup.

I just wanted to echo Andrews comments on his review and state that he is 100% spot on with how good the show was.

Journey was good...But, not any better or worse then the times I saw them with Augeri. JSS doesn't "imitate" Perry as a Hugo would...but, IMO, he does less to differentiate himself from Perry then Augeri did. I think the seemed like a band still trying to find themselves and a relationship with their audience. They seemed to plow through their set and it just seemed so convoluted and misguided. I think they put forth a lot of effort but their set needed work, their crowd interaction needs work. They need to get to know their audience again and allow their audience to get to know them...if that makes sense.

And, they definitely did NOT 'blow away" Def Leppard.

It wasn't 'unimpressive'...but it did NOT live up to the hype on this forum.

Okay, I used the wrong word - but I feel the same anyway. They were okay, but not hardly what this forum makes them out to be.

But you did say you saw them three times though. (Maybe the tickets were bought before the change). Okay you and Monker have seen the show and neither of you are as impressed as the majority, that's fine. Some people dig it and some don't.

One more thing.

I would see them again...But, NOT for $75/ticket. Unless ticket prices comeWAY down, I won't be seeing them again.

Doesn't bother me...IMO, this version of Journey isn't worth $75/ticket. If others feel they are, fine...spend your money. I'm not going to.

Look at Monker. running back and forth between two threads, trying as she might to discredit Journey and myself.

Mam, you are too funny.

Hurry up, run back to the other thread!

Not at all. I never said you have to LIKE everything to be a Journey fan. Just appreciate, respect it. I respect the fact that JSS jumped in to replace Augeri and "save" the Journey/DL tour. I don't like the way they handled it, but I accept that it happened. If and when this lineup puts out new music, I'm sure I'll appreciate it for what it is to Journey history too.

Tell me, if Steve Augeri returned as lead singer tomorrow, would all be forgiven in your eyes? Would the band get your money and support then- regardless of what happened?

Absolutely not!! I have said in other threads that the entire band has put me off. The only real reason I cut Augeri some slack is because the rest of the band is getting away with it while he sits at home with a gag order and all the shame of Tapegate. Which, need I say again, THEY ALL PARTICIPATED IN.

From what I gather, Cyndy, was at the concert, therefore supports the band. *You* have questioned giving the band *your* money at this point in time and why. What does that say about true fan support? I really think it’s clear who the fan is in that instance and who is not.

I saw them three times this tour. Don't tell me I didn't go to a show. Are you saying that true fans keep buying tickets no matter what?

In addition, I fail to understand the logic regarding Perry fans. I am a Perry fan. I make no apology for it! I am a JSS fan (with or without the band). Steve Augeri’s vocals did nothing for me :!: I wish him well, but I am not a fan of his.

Then it's not you I'm talking about. You're not Steve Perry's personal interviewer. You're not a rep of the band. You weren't a special guest backstage at a CURRENT show. A show which may well have never taken place had Arrival not existed and Steve Augeri never been part of Journey.

Something tells me that the real reason you attacked Cyndy is because you can’t stand the idea of someone (who has close relationship with Steve Perry) showing support for the band with JSS and not showing support for Steve Augeri. Would you prefer if Perry supporters were hating the band and JSS? It must really get your beak in a twist that some Perry fans are now supporting the band (and want to heal wounds) because that’s not what you want. Does it bother you that a top (or head) “loon” (as you call them) is on the board participating as a poster/fan not beating the band to a pulp over Tapegate? Perhaps you see Cyndy and Lora’s appearance at the show as some kind of Perry validation/approval of JSS? Perhaps you think that their presence will now lead all the “loons” to join in the “Journey loving” because Mr Augeri is not there. I don’t know, nor do I care (if these are your real reasons for attacking her). Cyndy made her comment as a fan (not in a professional manner or as anything else). She should be allotted the freedom to do so without reprimand from you.

Please also remember that there may be some albums that the band members (themselves) may not like or see as their best work. From what I remember, there has been some discussion over which member (in the band) made negative comments about doing the ROR album. If a band member does not appreciate an album (that they worked on) and publically makes negative comments, why can’t a fan be extended the same courtesy-whether they worked with an ex-member or not? In your line of reasoning, it is okay for a band member to make negative comments about their work or past band mates, but not a fan who has an association with the band? What about critics? Are they only fans if they love every album the band produced and never give a negative review?

Some people do not like the Arrival album, some have said they don’t like ROR or TBF. It is their right. If someone said that they felt Cyndy’s remark lacked sensitivity towards Mr Augeri (and his fans) given what has transpired and due to her association with Steve Perry AND if she was “talking” in a professional capacity. I might see the point. However Cyndy was speaking as a fan not as a represntative of Steve Perry. She made an ambiguous remark (in jest) from the perspective of being a fan. You have an ax to grind, so You jumped on her. I see your attack as hypocritical and biased- given your recent comments regarding the band :!: Had another (less biased) poster protested been offended and spoke out, there might be some merit to the grievance, but YOU are hardly in a position to be saying much, given the beating you have giving the band as of late.

You have made it very clear that you don’t like what has happened, which is your right. It was an unfortunate situation that should never have occurred, I agree. As for you accepting it, that not the impression you give with your posts! In many of your posts, You come across as very bitter/resentful towards all of the band (except for Augeri). You may claim to be a fan of past band members (i.e. Perry) but that has never stopped you from slagging him off too! In another thread you were asked ( point blank) why you are still on the board, given the way you feel about the band presently. So I’m not sure I can take any of your words at “face value” because I am not sure which “face” is presently being shown. It seems to change as often as the wind blows and selectively which each thread, argument and poster

In an ideal world, most would have preferred for the band to address the situation with Tapegate. We, however, do not live in an “ideal world”. Replacing singers did address the issue. Perhaps not to the satisfaction of most, but I think that might be the best fans can hope for. Perhaps the band looks at the situation from the standpoint that, one singer could not sing, so they choose someone who could. The fact is that all band members could do there job. The singer could not. Simple solution is to replace the part that is not working and carrying on. While it may seem cold and callous, logistically it makes sense. Please remember that the “show must go on” and it not the first time a singer has been replaced with this band! It's called show BUSINESS for a reason.

As for Mr Augeri “sitting at home with a gag order”. I was under the impression that Mr Augeri was seen at a show to support the band and in good spirits. He did talk to fans, so he can talk. While he may not be “talking” to the members on various internet forums (as Jeff is) it is to be expected. Perhaps he wants to lead a private life now. Perhaps he does not want to be subjected to questions which he is not prepared to answer. He is doing what most other band members are doing (including his predecessor) by not communicating with fans unless it’s on a selective basis and suits their purpose. I do not like the *selective* PR and lack of fan appreciation either (by current and past band members) but these people can’t be forced to do anything. In addition, You cannot say (with certainty) that there is a “gag order” in place...unless you have inside information that you can share with board.

AFI, I do not know if you went to any shows, nor do I care. You obviously present a bitter face to the board, yet do not stand by your convictions because you still go to the shows. It sounds a bit two faced. If you are that disgusted with the outcome of Tapegate, the simple solution is not to attend shows. You can easily boycott all Journey shows in light of your disapproval over Tapegate and treatment of Steve Augeri. I am sure there are many here that would be happy to rid you of any tickets you are so burdened with.

BTW. With all due respect to Mr Augeri (and I mean that sincerely) I was under the impression that there weren’t many songs (if any) being played at the current concerts from his era. So I am not sure why the show would not have played had “Arrival” not existed. Neal, Jon and Steve Perry created many hits before Steve Augeri. Those songs are now sung by JSS. The songs being played are from the Perry era. I am not sure why (or how) your statement is applicable. Mr Augeri did sing the songs, but he did not create them, nor did he bring the band popularity for them. He played his part in Journey’s legacy and made his fans very happy with his personality and kind nature. I respect that, but please give credit where credit is due. Recognize that three people wrote the majority of hits currently being played. Three people own those songs. Not one of the three is Mr Augeri. The band was determined to move after 1998. They would have done so with or without choosing Mr Augeri. That is what they have done now.

One can either roll with the times or be left behind mourning the past. It’s their choice. The band will still play and life will still go on. Those that mourn will simply miss the fresh interpretation of the old hits preformed by JSS. It’s an exciting new chapter in Journey’s Legacy. Miss it if you wish by harboring bitterness for past actions. I (like many others) do not intend to.

odessa, that was tl;dr so I will simply say this:
I have pet peeves and Cyndy's post was one of them.

It kills you trying to figure out why I post here... and why I won't go away. Why don't you focus on something more worthwhile?

No it doesn't “kill me” to figure out why you post here because your motives are so transparent it's sickening  It’s your two faced approach to the band that fascinates me and how you *spin* once called out. You don’t have “pet peeves”, my friend. YOU have serious issues!

I do agree (with you) that I should focus on something more worthwhile. You (and your opinions) are not worthy of serious attention (or brain activity) and never will be. On that I will agree! I have learned my lesson.

PS: If you have a problem having your words/posts challenged, then take your “peeves” to PM (if you don’t want other’s sticking their beaks in). If not, and you post them, then you make your grievances fair game for all to pick over and dissect...remember that.
