What a great thread! Enjoyed seeing so many great pics...wow!It's so cool to put a location to every name. 8)
Now if only Behshad would tell us who is he working for. j/k

I posted a ton of pictures from my country and my city on my Myspace front page.Including some of the Bran Castle - Dracula's residence.
There are a couple slide shows that can be viewed without loggin in,but I'll post a few pics here too.

This is Romania's etnographic map.I live in the west side of Transylvania.

My city, with the Citadel (built in 1250)

Lots of ancient castles are still standing tall everywhere in Transylvania. This one's only 20 minutes away from my house. The legend says that this was the place where Princess Bathory took her famous beauty baths in virgins' blood to keep her forever young.

The Carpathians - the mountains surrounding my homeland

Image

Cincis Lake - 15 minutes from my home.

Surduc Lake - another one close to my city

and something really special...The Voronet Monastery. It was built in the XV century and the blue paint they have used is unique in the whole world. No one was able to find the formula and replicate this shade of blue, that's why it was named Voronet Blue. It's breathtaking.

Here is one picture from the west side of downtown Houston - it is one of my favorites... Still looking for a few others. I live about 7-10 minutes from downtown, depending on traffic. :)

Edit: I am also one of those "weirdos" who has lived in Houston her whole life. I am a 3rd generation native Houstonian (rare). Also, I have lived in virtually the same neighborhood my whole life.

Wow... I've moved 34 times. (26 of those being before HS graduation.) You're not a weirdo, that's cool.

You ain't the only one lady.
I have never moved more than 3 miles from
my home hood.
As much as I would love to travel or live somewhere else
I'm pretty happy that we're close to the river and lake.

Haven't seen one place posted of here that I would not LOVE to see.
Think I would never want to return from where Deb is though.
Man lady you got all the bestest of our land oh Canuncks. :D

Ok, found a few more to share...

Sunrise over downtown Houston

Poster of downtown Houston, including an aerial view of Minute Maid Park (where the 'Stros play)
Image

The Water Wall at Williams Tower - very pretty, very romantic site at night
Image

Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park - there is a big hill that you go down to get to the theater. HUGE fun on field trips - the kids will roll down it like sacks of potatoes!
Image

Not Houston, but sunrise over the West end of Galveston Island when I was there this past September - beautiful colors...

Thanks - I needed that.

Moonie, I live within 2-3 miles of the house my parents had when I was born and less than a mile from the house we moved to when I was 5. They still live there now. The house we live in belonged to my grandparents - the moved to this neighborhood in the early 1950s.

Moonbeam, I've had close encounters a few times. They sound like a freight train coming, I heard one getting louder and louder, I watched it through the window go right over the top of my house. All the trees in my backyard whooshed down to the ground, and only half of them came back up. I had really big uprooted trees to clean up afterward.
That was in East Texas, I listened to the radio and it stayed on the ground for one more hour, when it got to Lufkin it went right through the airport and flipped a few planes.
Another one plowed through the pine forest a few hundred yards from my house one night. We were all awake listening to it, pine trees snapping and falling is a scary sound. :D They are so fascinating to me though.

Well, I don't have any current pics...

BUT ~ here's where I used to live: New Milford, CT...

...Which was transformed into the "Mr. Deeds" movie set:

This is the actual "Downtown" of New Milford....at the bottom of the hill where I lived:

Oh my god! Laura those mountain and lake shots are gorgeous - especially that middle one. I would LOVE to have scenery like that around me. This mght sound odd, but for the longest time I've really wanted to see Romania. I read something once a long time ago (I can't remember what - a novel or something) that painted this picture in my head and made me really interested. I even bought a translation book once because I liked the language.
