I very much enjoyed this concert. He did have some rough spots, but so did Augeri and Soto. His technique clearly exceeds both of theirs, he had more sustained power than Augeri, by far, and never got quite as annoying as Soto singing DSB.

With the poor quality of the YouTubes, I really could not get a feel for it. He sounded good. He dfinately showed that he could interact with he crowd which surprised me. It looked like a good concert. Everyone was smiling and looked all geeked up. But then again, I hate to say it, that's the same way they all smiled when SA came on board and JSS come on board. I guess we'll see. Over all, quality beng poor with YouTube, I think he did a good job. It's tough to say "Great"......Looks promising!!!!

co-wrote. yes, faithfully is a solo writing credit, but lets not discount the many songs on the first 3, infinity, evolution, and departure that have gregg rolie listed on the credits. i think jon cain is a wonderful songwriter, but he in no way is responsible for the hits on his own..... journey is a band with several writers.

These were the Youtube clips that I watched. The audio and video quality was above average. I agree with what you're saying though and I will give them a fair shot live. However, I heard several boots and Youtube clips of JSS and wasn't impressed. I seen them live in Indy and still wasn't impressed

I'm not surprised that the boots and clips didn't impress you, they were fairly lackluster to myself as well.

However, I'm kinda surprised you weren't impressed by the live show. Either JSS's voice better translates in a live arena setting than on boots, or I was just caught up in the live show experience, but the couple times I saw JSS with Journey, he absolutely destroyed. Great shows.

I'll tell you this.....I was listening to some of songs from Chile today, and after they were done some JSS boots came up..the ones Deano gave us from Atlantic City. JSS had it going and the band was energized. I am supporting Arnel and Journey...but Christ did JSS make me excited.

I have come to the conclusion that Journey has made a huge mistake in hiring him.

He consistently sang out of key, he was really straining in his (unsuccessful) attempts to hit the right notes, and the oriental accent is very noticeable.

Arnel is nowhere near the talent level of JSS or Steve Augeri, and Journey sounds nothing like Journey anymore.

Arnel sang flat a few times during the songs I watched clips of. So crucify the guy. Jesus...

Besides, the fact that he pulled his in-ear monitor just MIGHT indicate he was having a problem with it...not that that would matter to all the musically-challenged dorks who are pronouncing him a failure after his first show.

Other than the occasional pitch issue, your post is a massive, steaming, stench-riddled pile of championship-level bullshit.

Wow, Roxx.. I couldn't agree with you more. I can't believe the negative reaction to this first performance. I was a little late in watching the you tube videos. From what was hearing, I thought he would be up there for 2 hours, farting in the mic. I was waiting all day to view them. Lets get one thing straight. Ok..it's not Steve Perry. Lets get over that. We get it. Ok, now that that's done...

I am very impressed! People questioned his stage presence and the way he was going to handle himself on stage. Man, did he look fun. He was all over the place, and to top it off...sorry people, he doesn't sound like Perry. It's a different sound that does justice to the sound of Journey. It's really awesome to see, and in my opinion, gave the band new life. I don't know, it gave me magic.

Of course, some people won't be happy, that's the nature. With that said...for me...

This has nothing to do with comparing anybody or just being negative. It boils down to was he good that night? And the answer is huge no. Lets get something straight. This guy was brought in BECAUSE he was suppose to sound like Perry. Journey was the ones comparing. Those are the songs he sings night after night not 3 of them in a set mixed with Heart, Survivor, Etc...... . I'm pulling for him also but call a spade a spade he choked that night. Even if Journey goes multi platinum on the next disc, those will still be the songs on the set list.

As someone who's been around long enough (and been been lucky enough) to see EVERY configuration of this band live, I was as skeptical as any when the band's choice of Arnel was announced. But the guy is exactly what the band wanted. I fail to see what anyone's beef here is, unless they simply don't like the guy, for whatever reason.

I've said it before in this thread, and I'll say it again: the little dude has THE GOODS, and if anyone doesn't think he'll improve with each successive show, you're high.

All of the constant complaining couldnt bring JSS back, so why continue to babble about it over and over. For the record, I loved JSS and was pumped when he joined. Jeff still has an amazing career, and is better off IMO not singing for Journey. Neal and Jon want the dirty dozen and someone to deliver that only. The new music is a bonus in my opinion.

Like I have said in other posts, I still havent decided if Arnel suits my tastes, but I am surely not gonna boot him after one gig or cannonize him too.

The question I asked myself after seeing Journey with Arnel was "Am I entertained and enjoying the music?" The answer for me is yes. However I am sure that the trend of this board will be Arnel v. Perry and Arnel v. JSS over and again. Sifting through negative posts will be tough.
