All members are encouraged to voice there opinions even if they don't like the current line up of the band. Even if all the opinions were done tastefully and viewed as constructive criticsm would that be enought to appease the band? If we are all going to tow the company line and support the new line up 100% than we might as well go over to the official site and be members there instead. We are what we are with no pretensions at this forum.

I think there is a lot more BALANCE to this forum now than it had in the recent past. That doesn’t mean just cheerleading, nor just bashing, whether that be bashing of Perry/Augeri/JSS/Arnel (take your pick) or of Schon and Cain. It means that in amongst the polarised black and white views of a few months ago, I detect a lot more grey. People here now seem to recognise that it’s OK to have different opinions without having to have nose to nose confrontations, and I think the forum is stronger for it. I think that’s reflected in the fact that there are now many more regular posters and a wider variety of opinions expressed.

But…. (and here’s the issue with MR and Andrew’s association with it) … people remember the things that irritated them much more than the things they agreed with. This forum DID have a reputation for attacking the band, both in the lead up to and the wake of Augeri’s departure and subsequently Soto’s departure, and even Arnel got a less than welcome ‘welcome’ from some quarters here after his appointment. Some of those comments do not get forgotten quickly. It may only have been a minority expressing these views, but it was a very vocal minority and it was certainly noted.

Andrew didn’t condone any of those activities and has always been a man of great integrity. It’s unfortunate therefore that this one forum is the one he has been most associated with. I’m sure it has contributed to Journey Management’s opinions and decision making regarding Andrew. It’s not right but it is the way things are.

Good reputations take a while to build or to change and take a lot of sustained effort. Bad reputations get created much more quickly and only require one or two individuals to fashion them. I see this forum building a good reputation for balanced debate now and I’d like to think that if it maintained it, opinions may well change in the Journey camp over time.

Maybe The Journey Camp can rebuild their reputation also, stop talking trash about past lead singers, and do there job and play music. Treat their singers with respect.Dont burn them out,or have them lipp.

I for one welcome such moves as Arnel has shown himself to be a fellow of fine standing and humble origins and has by all reports been tearing it up on stage with the band this tour.
Arnel was unfairly targetted by a few here in the early days, but I think most of those folks have moved on and a few others have been won over by his efforts on the outstanding Journey album.

Part of the current efforts to perhaps give Arnel a chance to shine was a feature interview with me for this site. A request had been sent some montha go, so I sent another request this week.

It is with much regret and some sadness that I report that this request has been denied.

I hope that in time, it will be reconsidered. My door remains always open...

Who denied you? A member of the band? Arnel? Journey spokesperson? I wouldn't think Arnel would deny it. They are pretty busy though right now, I would say because of the busy schedule is the reason he can't do it. Even I don't get good time to talk with Arnel, I won't hear from him for a period of time and then one day out of the blue he'll call to say hello. He's just busy but if you went to a concert and got a back stage pass, I would think he would have some time then at that moment to talk with you.

Didnt you read what Andrew said? Theyre not denying him the interview because Arnel is too busy. Theyre denying it because theyre falsley accusing Andrew for not being supportive of the current lineup. Next time Arnel calls you to say hello, tell him to watch his back and the people making decisions for him :)

When Arnel calls me we've never talked about Journey, we don't even make any reference to it what so ever. In simpler terms, we never talk about his business, which if I were to tell him what you want, I would be. We talk about old times mostly, that's what I'm interested in and I think he is also. The most important things to me initially was being able to get back in touch with all the members who I once were with when the band was AMO, and I did so through Arnel. Simply that was the thing that happened that makes me the most happy with the current situation with Arnel and Journey.

I had lost touch with them all, Uly didn't want me to meet up with them I guess, because in 94' when I was with Uly as the lead vocalist in the newly formed band in the Philippines, I had asked Uly how I could contact the other members of AMO, I know they were accessible. But Uly wouldn't provide me with any information about them or where I could locate any of them. That's how I lost touch with them. But I'm grateful now because I met back up with a number of them now. These are the only things Arnel and I talk about and I want to keep it that way.

Haha, never a dull moment here on Andrew's Journey board.

Let's be honest, at one time or another, there was enough bashing directed at any primary J bandmember to make any fan of that member cringe. I certainly saw enough attacks against SP's character back in late '05 that made me swore off this forum the first go around.

Now, some people are pointing at the attacks against Arnel (which only last a month or so and only by certain posters that are no longer here) as the reason why Andrew is not getting an interview. If anything, I think it's the continuing jokes directed at "frig & fro" on this board that is hurting Andrew's standing with the band.

I guess what I don't understand is how what people post on the message board has anything to do with an interview on the front page of the site. Andrew's site is a music information site primarily, not a message board site. Andrew gave Revelation a stellar review. Everything he has posted on the main page has been very positive.

Andrew is being punished for the opinions of Journey fans and that is bullshit.

Just because it's not on the front page doesn't mean people don't read it, or that the band/management don't monitor. They know exactly what is being said, and I'd go so far as to say they probably have people registered as members to 'contribute' their opinions on certain matters.

Now that they are back in the game after getting Arnel, I doubt they have time to plop down in front of a computer for any length of time. I'm not so sure what is posted on this site makes it to them. If I was in the band, I'd stay away from getting too involved with forums and blogs, just so I could focus my time and attention to the band and the work at hand(practice, rehersal, song writing, touring, etc.)

Whether what people post here gets to the band or not, thank god Andrew allows for free thought and debate. As a few posters have alluded, if all you want to read are "Journey can do no wrong" spiels, you might as well join their official site forums.

Whatever word you want to use, they are trying to control all discussion of the band. At this stage of the game they really ought to be above this type of pettiness. I would expect juvenile behavior like this from the Jonas Brothers, not a long established band like Journey. They never cease to amaze me.

You're both right and wrong about this.

Right about the everlasting bashing of all the aforementioned, wrong in insuiating that because of posters Andrew hasn't "earned" an interview.

Time and time again he's condemned perry, loon, Schon, Cain, Augeri, JSS and Pineada bashing he removes the more offensive ones when he can but there's no WAY with the day-to-day ops of the site that he has time to delete ALL bashes of the above.
Shit, when he DID remove the ones he saw then a whole OTHER contingent got on him for censoring free speech.

True enough. I guess what I'm was saying is that there are consequences to freedom of speech. Freedom of speech in debate over ideas and issues, sure but if you are in at a party and you tell a fat person that they are too fat or that speak your mind without thought of a rebuke or a slam in the kisser, you will have to take the consequences and I can see where the guys in the band would feel that some of the "fun at their expense" remarks here, even today, would turn them off an interview.
Just saying.......
Of coarse the freedom of speech here is to be commended but like Andrew said, "It is what it is."

I think Arnel is still having a hard time handling his new fame and that also includes interviews with the media. Journey management are scared he might say something that he shouldnt tell ( might spilled the beans) for the record.
Isnt it ironic that The Scarab represented - Self-Generation, Resurrection and Renewal ???

Right about the everlasting bashing of all the aforementioned, wrong in insuiating that because of posters Andrew hasn't "earned" an interview.
Time and time again he's condemned perry, loon, Schon, Cain, Augeri, JSS and Pineada bashing he removes the more offensive ones when he can but there's no WAY with the day-to-day ops of the site that he has time to delete ALL bashes of the above.
Shit, when he DID remove the ones he saw then a whole OTHER contingent got on him for censoring free speech.

As usual, Red13 forms his own interpretations depending on whether he likes that poster or not. This is not my insinuation. I'm only joining in the discussion of what some posters are claiming; that is, Andrew is not getting his interview because of perceived (past) Arnel bashings. For the record, I don't think it's of Arnel's doing, at all. I do believe he is a happy guy and likes everyone.

This is fairly consistent with how these dopes run their own "official site". If everyone doesn't have the same exact opinion, and it's not a favorable opinion of all of them and all of their music, they are banished. Journey will forever be my favorite band, but the whole fucking group of them are bankrupt, in the character department. And yes, I am lumping them all together, the way they lump all of us together! Fuck them!!!!

A lot of iffy assertions being made here, that I have to counter with these facts:

1. Andrew was denied interview access by Journey management, for the BS reason that he wasn't fully behind the current lineup
Andrew gave Revelation a fair review. IIRC, Andew reported that Neal even called to thank him for the review.
The album got very high marks, but Andrew's prose bears none of the telltale drool that mindless fanboys
inescapably betray themselves with.

2. Arnel has said an MR interview will happen.
It's a matter of fucking record.
Unless you require Arnel to issue an engaved invitation or a notarized affidavit, it can't get much clearer at this time.

3. As busy as he is, Arnel has the time/means to do an MR interview, probably via webcam chat.
The last APSB chat ran over a fucking hour. Right on the heels of another chat that also ran a respectable duration.
It should be easy to set up a closed webcam chat with Andrew, in installments even (to reduce the demand
on Arnel's time for R&R). The interview can also be conducted via keyboard, to hush critics who want Arnel
to give maximum rest for his vocal folds. Remember that Arnel is adept at video chat: it's part of how he
got his job.

4. The past ugliness was committed by a minority, but not a tiny minority. Incidents continued up til June 2008.
The majority should have howled violently against it in 2007... and I was lurking when that DIDN'T happen.
Marty's right that there's been an attitude shift around here, but it's an extremely recent one.
Is Andrew to blame for the ugliness? If nobody reports the shit to him, it likely goes uncorrected.
It's not like he can scan every single fucking post made here.

5. Arnel has learned to guard what he says, whenever it risks violating others' privacy, confidence or purview.
This isn't December 2007 anymore.
Arnel ignores or finesses the trickier questions on APSB. He won't comment on the ILAA cancellations of M&G's, and
he won't acknowledge silly questions asking him who he gets along with on the band, etc. Azoff et. al. can rest easy.

6. Rip, Maui, Progg, Dan et. al. have done a tremendous job of dispelling the MR image as a bunch of haters.
I don't see why they HAVE to do more, before you give Arnel or his peeps a call and begin setting it up, Andrew.
Maybe I'm unfairly lightening the point made about a potential backlash from J-management. What do I know?
You're the pro, and I respect your experience in how these things are done.

7. Hopefully Ttango and other Filipinos here on MR have shown that quite a few Filipinos are Journey fans first.
Filipinos are a naturally happy lot, and will have understandable happiness for Arnel's good fortune.
If the legions of Loons, Wigglers, etc. can have their happy enthusiasms, without inviting accusations
of mindlessness or carpetbagging, then perhaps so can Arnel's army.

Yes, Progg.

There. Corrected the typo :)
You're earning yourself a fanbase over at AP, LOL.
Dan already has one borderline stalker,
...and don't get me started on Rhi's admirers.

What you guys could do, given a working knowledge
of Tagalog....LOL
