Ummm, no. Case opened. The Roth-Hagar example, upon reflection, is a very poor one. Two completely different scenarios. Van Halen wasn't a 20+ year old band with Greatest Hits out and music that defined parts of 3 fucking decades. Journey was. Now the case is closed.

The other reason the Van Halen example has never worked is that the band was NEVER built around the vocals of Roth. Furthermore, the guy who replaced Roth was a far better singer!

If Patty Smyth hadn't gotten pregnant she may very well have been Diamond Dave's replacement. By even considering her, Eddie was really showing that he had no problems about taking the band in a new direction.
