Journey has never been about color, creed, race, or nationality. They have always been about the music. And incidentally, they are an American band.

Quite frankly because hiring a singer from Manila does not make you a "world band." It sounded like one of those douchey and broad-stroked platitudes that Jonathan is somewhat prone to. If you buy into it, great for you, but I think to a lot of people, myself included, it sounded a little condescending and smarmy.

LOL, I have no idea, maybe you could explain!
Although when I think "world band" I'm far more likely to think of the music of Paul Simon or Peter Gabriel than Journey. But I think you get my point, no?

No, I don't get your point at all. No worries though.

Interesting, Negativity is a sad state.ttango1 wrote:Jeremey wrote:Do some of you feel that the comments posted by Pineda fans on a lot of the Perry YouTubes about him being gay, big nosed, pussy, not a man, singing like a fag, etc are retaliation towards the perception that Americans that don't care for (or are biased or racist) about some of Arnel's Pinoy mannerisms? Yes, it's retaliatory. Same thing is going on now with Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao in boxing
As a people, Filipinos are generally humble. Attack one of theirs and the possibility that it will be given back and then some. It's sad really, negativity vs negativity is so easily spread with the advent of the web. And just as sad are the people who get off on giving that negativity life. IMHO it seems as if those people who find joy in that, have none or little in their own lives.

Journey are are not a world band. Australia copy eveything America does, but I don't hear JRNY on the radio here, ever. You can thank the Simpsons, Glee, The Saprano's, and so on for the rest.
IMO they are a nostaglia group, singing past hits made famous by a former singer (Steve Perry) who isn't in the band anymore... ouch.
What's the difference between Journey and Jeremey? they are both recreating a sound from the past. I'd rather pay my money to a guy who alteast know's he's a tribute act, and doe not pretend to be anything else. Journey are in denial and still think Steve Perry is at the helm!... hilarious.
IMO they really killed the group when Perry left, it was over. Bring back Steve Perry. Who cares if he sounds different? these guys are pushing 60! what do want?.
Two big thumbs down for the current Journey
Two big thumbs up for classic Journey, and Jeremy

You do realize Journey released 4 albums last decade...right? Thats not exactly a touring jukebox.

Except they play maybe 4 out of those 40 songs in their set.. and dozens from the albums previous to the 4 they released in the last decade...

Not bad...but do you have him performing "Open Arms" or "Faithfully" - because I'm pretty sure that's what sold it for Schon & Co.
As far as I'm concerned Arnel almost rivals even Perry with Separate Ways in a live setting vocally, and I love Arnel's ending.

I think that was one of our MR members from Daytona. He took these videos, I believe. Some of the best quality I've seen for sound and using the screens for better visuals.

And if they don't the damn beer bottles start flying. Some people have a soft spot in their heart for the songs that were part of their youth and young adulthood. Its what they indentify with being some of the best parts of their lives. Being young, getting that first buzz, getting laid, ect...all to classic Journey tunes.
Because of this, it makes their minds less open to new material when it comes to Journey music.

It's not Arnel's choice. Some of you fucks just don't understand that it's voice preservation measures because Journey would like to finish their
career without having to go find another singer to replace one with a blown out voice. Is it really that hard to understand? What do you think they'd have to do with Perry, at his age? I know....I know....he can sing in original key and probably walk on water too!
Aaron wrote:My bet it is Arnel's choice, or lack of capability. I don't think anyone would question Perry being a half step for even a full step down. Let's face it, he's Steve Fucking Perry. However, a half step down for a replacement singer? Are you kidding me, really? There's a SHITLOAD of people that can sing those songs in the original key. I mean shit, let's get Scott Stapp to sing this crap. I think I understand quite well and Journey are plonkers detuning for a replacement. If you're impressed with a half step down replacement that's your prerogative. I'm just not impressed with something less than the original. Most singers on here have all said the little he's sung this year (a song here and there on a TV show or a small grouping of charity concerts) spread out is good for his vocals rather than a year and a half off and not singing.donnaplease wrote:If voice preservation is an issue, then why are the powers that be allowing him to do 'his own gigs'?Shouldn't he be 'preserving' his voice?

No.... because it's not nearly as many gigs as a Journey tour, not as many nights in a row, etc. Also, if you don't use it you lose it. He must keep singing.
