I can respect that. I really can.

Went to see Elton John tonight at Caesar's in Vegas. He has four female backup singers, 3 percussionists, two cellists, and assorted guitarists. He ducked a lot of high notes, sang many others an octave low, and did some of my favorite numbers in a quirky jazz tempo (which irks me a lot).

But it's still Elton Freaking John, whom I saw last in 1976 at Texas Stadium.

And it was awesome.

I'm going to sleep grinning.

If an artist has given me years of listening pleasure, I have no problem supporting him live even if he does sound like shit 20 years later. For the price of a few concert tickets and CDs, to have a lifetime of memories attached to enjoyable music, I'll gladly pay the piper. To me, that's a bargain from what I've gotten out of it overall.

Deb - you know I love Michael too, and yes he does write a lot of his own music. But that particular song is not an 'original':

Someone apparently confused Augeri with Chalfant the other night. Kev still sounds great.

Damn, yeah. Sounds great. He's got that frontman swagger for sure. Had Journey gone with him, he certainly woulda brought Kelly Hansenesque credibility to Journey.

Wasn't Chalfant pegged to continue Journey before TBF?

Chalfant's not being picked boiled down to one thing: his appearance. That's all fine and good, but I don't see how picking an effeminate Asian midget who tips the scales at 110 lbs was any different. Bottom line is, people don't care if you bring the music.

Yes, and I'm not going to shy away from Matt's comment here. If you are going for the legacy sound at one point KC was the guy. As much as I have learned to respect Arnel (and I do) Chalfant made a lot of sense before Steve A.

And really cool to hear Friga give Augeri some props on the recent interview.

The biggest difference between Chalfant and Arnel is, Chalfant is a hell of a writer too. But then if Neil would have let Chalfant and Cain get together, both of their pull would have prevented Neel from squatting out Eclipse.

Yeah, I think Arnel has done a better job than either Soto or Augeri, but Chalfant was better than all of 'em.

At one point, very true. Nowadays, I think Arnel has more power and range. But there's more to being a frontman than just range.

Perry wasn't effeminate? LOL I gotta just laugh at your vanity for a second. Neither of these two men had any control over this. You're normally pretty intelligent, but I don't get the value in calling Arnel an Asian midget. What's he done to you? Pretty uncalled for, if you ask me. Wanna criticize a performance or personal behavior.....fine with me. We do that around here all the time, but calling someone out on their height or something else they cannot control is pretty small of you, just sayin'. You're better than that, Matt.

Yeah, at least Arnel has a little muscle tone and doesn't look like he's wearing his wife's blouses or her leopard print t-shirt, not to mention Perry's feminine Infinity-Evolution era voice.

I'm not really calling Arnel out on anything (hence the "people don't care if you bring the music" line). I'm just observing the dissonance between Chalfant's not getting the gig apparently solely because of his appearance and Arnel's getting the gig despite not looking like a "rock star" at all.

Well that'd probably have to be the only reason. Chalfant's voice is easily on par with Perry's imho, in a way that the voices of the other guys simply aren't.
Arnel might be slender and dare I say petite, but he has a look that resonates {pun intended} with social outcast, punk, emo freaks of my generation and yours.

{And I say that without rancor.}

Well, faulting Perry for the clothes is a bit unfair given the horrific fashion trends of the era he flourished in. But don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Perry looked like a brawny man's rocker-type either. Just observing that it's strange that Chalfant didn't get the gig because of his appearance.
