Honestly, man, I don't think that's what happened.

I think there's a prerecorded keyboard overlay for the intro to TWWUTB, like there is with the live intro to Ask the Lonely. If you watch any recording of Jon playing the intro to ATL, he's on the Fazio baby grand piano and there are prerecorded synths that overlay his piano keys.

Journey's had a bad habit of prerecorded synths for years: Only the Young's rhythm guitar riff, Wildest Dreams chorus, Never Walk Away's chorus, Suzanne, I'll Be Alright Without You, Send Her My Love, etc.

So why even quickly run up to his rig? Why bother? The intro only involves 2 keys tops and it looks like he's playing them to me.

During OTY, (before there was Travis or Jason), he just openly played rhythm guitar as the pre-recorded synth played in the background. If he didn't have to pantomime then, why start now?

I think for the same reason they run up to their mics even though most of the background vox are prerecorded; it's part of the presentation.

I brought up OTY as merely an example of a prerecorded synth loop overlay that drives me nuts. A more analogous example to what happened with TWWUTB would be the intro to Send Her My Love or Ask the Lonely. If you watch them play SHML or ATL live, a prerecorded synth loops plays over Jon's piano for the intro.

One way the new album — which doesn’t have a release date yet — will pay tribute to Journey’s legacy is via the artwork: The package is being designed by Jim Welch, who worked on the classic Infinity, Departure and Escape albums.

Looking forward to seeing the artwork!

If you go to Welch's website, he never really went away. He is responsible for some cool recent artwork (like Eclipse) and some pretty ho-hum stuff (Escape/Frontiers Live in Japan, NS The Calling, NS Vortex). Really none of the artwork has blown me away since Arrival.

New Journey music heard in the background as NMW wishes Michaele a happy birthday. Sounds absolutely thunderous!

They don't have a picture of Jackson or Narada on that article's page. Another snub. How hard is it to put up their pictures, too? It would take ten seconds.

Is the title of that song "Lady As Beautiful As You Are"? If so, there will be some long titles on this new album! :D

Neal says "The song is an Epic Ballad / Rocker called “Beautiful as you Are".

Apparently Bob Clearmountain has just finished mastering.

It sounds awesome. But I am guessing what we heard was the end of the song.

It sounds nice but honestly, I’d rather have a straight ballad. We got rocker ballads on Eclipse and while I liked them a lot, I am hoping for a classic Journey ballad, beginning to end on this album. Something like TDTWT. With Randy and Narada’s influence, a straight ballad would be very interesting.

Snippets of this same song, or at least the acoustic instrumental part, was also played when NMW sent Neal a birthday video awhile ago.

I'd be happy with no new ballads. There's enough already!

They have to have one classic Journey-style ballad, but NOT a whole album of ballads. They ain't Air Supply!

Journey had several high profile shows (Lolla, IHeart) and a Vegas residency. Air Supply would gladly trade places.

...and what do the fans most want? A handful of live shows in a year....Or, a full tour with no opening band?

Seems that most Journey should be happy if they traded places this year, too.

I'm a fan. Saw a great show last month. No complaints here.

You can't complain that this band over tours and then whine that they don't tour enough. Pick a side.

Let's just be glad Perry isn't still with Journey, or the new album would be all ballads. Neal would say, "Anything you want, man." Also, Perry wouldn't want to tour. So, overall, the band is much better the way it is right now.

Personally, I think history would have repeated itself had Perry stayed and Journey wouldn't be together right now.

In news that is sure to please Monker and piss off everyone else, Neal is now saying they are aiming for a March release.

Hold on. If Journey is starting to tour in mid-February, why are they going to release the album in March? Monker might be on to something here. Journey has no direction. A crap show as Monker may say.

The album should be released right now. We need to listen to it for months to really learn the songs. You cannot listen to it once and know the songs by heart and be ready for a concert.

Of course, Journey might be planning to NOT play anything off the new album. In that case, it doesn't matter when they release it.

It doesn't "please me" but it doesn't surprise me either. This was supposed to be released July, 2020. They don't have a label.

Also, it is not about a release date being pushed back. No real release has ever been given by a label this entire time. In fact, no exact release DATE has ever been given by ANYBODY. It's about Neal's wish's not matching reality.

You people keep believing what Neal says. Has ANY date of this tour been given by a venue? It's the middle of October...how close to the generic date of 2/22 does it need to be before you start doubting what Neal says?

I don't think it's a "crap show", I think it is Neal just lying about it all. I do not believe there is a label signed to release the album. Since they do not have management, do they even have people in place to book a tour? It's Neal just throwing out Hush Puppies...and people believe they are Scooby Snacks and invites to their next video.
