Deano - do you expect the new album to sound different from this song? Just curious...

Absolutely. I KNOW it will.

The Jamestown song is a Jon Cain song with guest Neal Schon on it. File it away folks. It's history.

Sure - I'm finally all talked out about Winds of Freedom....

Just wanted to quickly say....it was a Journey song though, Deano. I mean...you could say that Faithfully was a Cain song with Schon guesting on it....but we all know it's a Journey classic. Why is WOF denied full Journey status?

Why? Because it's an event specific song that was written in 14 minutes through Google searches while Friga watched his Liberace DVD's. It wasn't an organic collaboration by the ENTIRE band. Rather, it was passed around like Aja in a bar.

What about Arrival

A very good CD that most outside of the loons liked. A few songs in the right climate with radio play - it would have done very well.

Anyone outside of the hardcore fan base I have ever played it for liked it.

A fucking coaster. That's all it is.

How can you listen to anything Steve Augeri sang on? Seriously. He has tarnished the last 8 years and they will never get over his tenure. To think I actually told people about the new Journey, "He is pretty fuckin good. Dude holds his own." Oh man, I am redfaced over that shit.

PHONY ROCK STAR.

Agree with you about what happened afterwards, but I can still easily play Arrival anytime.

I hate TBF and like Arrival - you prefer the reverse.

The difference is I am totally consistent on my hate for TBF and you have flipped flopped on Arrival. Don't blame you considering that Augeri became a fraud later and I understand. Hell I know they did things to make him sound better on it too - but I still like the record. Don't like Red 13 or Generations though.

Personally Matty, although I thought the tune showed potential, it really didn't
blow me away. But I think it was a style we are used to because it was
thrown together rather quickly and mostly by Cain. I don't think this is
a true representation of what we can expect when Jeff, Neal and Friga
all hunker down at Friga or Jeff's studio and start truly writing together.

I did not go to the show, and have only heard Winds of Freedom from a poor audio clip on youtube. There is no way I can possibly judge this track. Even if you were in attendence, you have only clearly heard it once.

Seems to me there is a lot of over analyzation of a track that has only been heard once.

That's a good point. I have listened to the song a few times (although with poor audio quality,) and I liked it.

I'm glad this one has gotten back on topic before Tbone deleted half of another thread....
this song is a ballad, how ground breaking should anyone have expected it to be? At least lyrically the subject matter is different than the "I'm so happy we're together" of WYLAW through Gens and the "I'm so sad we're apart" of the 80s. WAFTE is the only other with a different theme that comes to mind.

The result of Friga firing Perry.

Thanks for the clarification.

Uh, Dopes, do you HONESTLY think if that didn't happen that Perry would've recorded another damn NOTE or sang ONE live verse with Journey? He was TOTALLY ready to pull a fucking 1987 again on them.

You'd STILL be waiting on the booking of the first show of the TBF tour. Christ.

Nice answer, matt.

He'd've left them in the lerch if Schon/Cain didn't call the blufff again and you loons know it.

Hey Red...what's got into you lately?

I agree with you!

Yes, Perry would probably have called it a day regardless of Cain firing him. We'll never know for sure and Cain certainly closed the door forever - but it's highly unlikely.

Are you sure you're not Properry or HOTS, you fawn over Perry almost as much...find it hard to believe that two Journey fans thought Perry was a little to sugary sweet for their tastes...guess what, Neal is another who wanted a more ballsy rock singer.
