I didn't cry, but was relieved. I did however cry earlier, when I was smack dab in the middle of a free porn video and my machine crashed. I was full into jacking mode too. Fuck!!

Who all are you backing and booing this year? I'll mainly be cheering on Tony Stewart, Dave Blaney, Sam Hornish Jr., and Robby Gordon. I also tend to cheer for the independent/small team guys (Boris Said, Joe Nemecheck especially) and the old guard (Martin, Elliott, Jarrett, etc.). I'd be thrilled to see someone like Schrader or Kenny Wallace nab a win this year.

Of course, I'll be rooting against Earnhardt. Nothing against the guy personally, I grew up hating on an Earnhardt and will always continue to do so. 8) Plus it's fun to see him suck and make fun of his many fans... hahaha.

I think the champion will be a Hendrick driver. Johnson has a great shot to three-peat and you should never rule out #24.

Dude, I would say the 48 team is back, not so for the 24.

The 99 is very good. 88 will start it's yearly fade.

I don't know about the Hendrick teams yet. At Vegas, Fluffy was going for the win late in the race when he crashed, while Jimmie couldn't hit his ass and turned it into a test session. At Texas, it was just the opposite. While Jr. seems to run decent every week. Hard to figure. And I doubt we'll know much more after Phoenix, because both the 24 and 48 already won there in this car last year.
I just think the right setup is still a knife's edge with this car yet. Kenseth said if John-Paul Montana hadn't punted him on that restart, he might have stayed in front the rest of the day. It was that much better out front. He figured clean air was worth maybe 3/10s compared to being back in traffic.
I just think we still have a ton to learn about this car.

48 wins this week. They are simply too good not to.

Notice that after Bristol, the 24 went fishing for the week off and the 48 stayed on and tested and worked on the car? Hmm

Sitting in the PSL section, Row 43, on the aisle, between the start/finish line and the dogleg towards turn 1! Luckily, my nephew lives about 4 miles from the track and works for GM.
I also have some good friends who live very near the Phoenix track. Now, if my 11-year-old car will just get me there and back!

Talladega this week.

I love restrictor plate racing. Close battles, giant trains of cars, unexpected folk winning and placing well, and all sorts of drama.

Who do you have this week?

I'm calling for a Kyle Busch victory. You may say, "that ain't much of a stretch," but it actually is. He averages 30th lifetime at Talladega. However, the man is on a tear, and I think this will be the week he'll finally get over his 'Dega jinx and take down the checkers.

Brian Vickers is my dark horse pick.

A couple of quotes from the scanners:

Matt Kenseth, at Daytona talking about Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin: "They're up there side-by-side, just playing around; I'm leading a train and we STILL can't catch 'em!"

Jeff Burton, at Phoenix in the Nationwide race talking about Kyle Busch: "I had a run and was PULLING him coming out of the turn. He caught me and passed me on the straightaway. That's not handling, that's power!"

What could these two races possibly have in common? Restrictor plates. Flat ones at Daytona and tapered spacers in the Nationwide Series. There is NO DOUBT Kyle Busch can wheel a racecar. But having a Toyota under the hood helps a lot. I'd say you've got some good picks there.

Obvious Picks: Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards

Dark Horses: Brian Vickers, Dave Blaney, Reed Sorenson, Elliott Sadler, Sterling Marlin (Restrictor plate ace + Finch #09 team = guaranteed Top Ten)

I'm not a big fan of his, but Kurt Busch is ALWAYS right there and way overdue for a restrictor plate win. And yes, Sorenson is surprisingly strong at these places too. Of course, I hate to think about how many times the 17 has blown up or been wrecked while running in the top five, so, I'll stick with him. I'll admit they're great races to watch, but I still hate them. Too many things beyond your control.

I bet Kenseth will have a heck of a run going Sunday but either have some obscure mechanical failure or get caught up in some bullcrap. Usually happens to him, unfortunately.

Reed Sorenson will be the next Jimmy Spencer... he'll knock out a few RP races one year but won't win much if at all the rest of his career.

I think the same way as you Gary. That's why I won't pick Kyle to win. He won yesterday. He can't win every week, not even the 48 does that.

So you guessed it, a Hendrick car wins, but it isn't the 24 and it isn't the 88. I say the 48 wins. The question is this. Will they hang out in the rear again, logging laps, staying out of the "Big One" and make the move at the end like last year in the chase? If you remember that, JJ got 2nd, beaten by Gordon on a brilliant move. If not for that move, the 48 would have won 5 in a row. JJ wins this week again. Waltrip won't crack the top 37 and McMurray will run well.

I almost added McMurray to my list too, but you can't have everybody! lol. I'll be more than happy to take anything Kenseth can do, as long as he doesn't get wrecked or have mechanical problems. I'm not worried about him as a driver. He should easily be top ten-even top five without outside interference. That, and take off that "Don't Draft With Me" bumper sticker.

I think the Toyotas may have a bigger advantage here than at Daytona though. With the new pavement (grip) at Talladega, handling doesn't enter into things nearly as much. I sure hope I'm wrong.

I hate Gordon too, but he does have a supermodel wife, as does Jimmie, and come to think of it, you never see Jr with a girl do you? The guy makes millions off his daddy's name. He sucks compared to Jimmie and Jeffy.

I wouldn't bet money against him, lol. He just won 3 in a row, and recently won two races in the same weekend... The only person who can beat Kyle, right now, is Kyle, lol.

24 SHOULD be a contender, but I really think he needs to just clean house and get a new crew. (Maybe do whatever it takes to get Evernham back, lol. He has SUCH a great mind for racing, and they were a great team.) I wish he had done it LAST season. It's ridiculous how often he has a bad car, and it gets WORSE during the race, not better.... ugh
It's been frustrating to be a JG fan lately, lol. (& That "rainbow boy" can sure drive  )
Thankfully Kyle has filled the void for me - he's just so much fun to watch. (I'm actually watching the truck series now, lol.)

And it's not just 24. So many of the drivers who were hot the last few of years are struggling. Is it just the car?

I think a lot of it's the car. And that doesn't necessarily mean there's anything seriously wrong with it, it's just awfully new. And they haven't raced it at most of these tracks yet. But hey, Hendrick got the jump on everyone last year, so I'm not really feeling sorry for any problems they're having this year. And I in NO WAY think they're in any kind of serious trouble.

Some serious WTF news here.

Rumor has it that Tony Stewart may be leaving Gibbs to go to Haas CNC racing.

WTF.

Stewart could call up Roush, Penske, Hendrick, Childress, Ganassi, Evernham, DEI, and have a ride immediately probably... but HAAS?!

Heck, Petty Enterprises just might be better than Haas. Team Red Bull just might be better than Haas. The only multi-car team I can think of that's any worse right now, is Michael Waltrip Racing. Hell, I'd recommend Tony drive for Robby Gordon or Bill Davis before I'd recommend him jump over to Haas.

The word is he's interested in being part owner. They have sucked this year, but have had some good runs in the past. The MAIN thing they have going for them is Hendrick. They're a sattelite operation. And that INCLUDES engines. If Tony takes Zippy with him, which I would assume, it shouldn't be much of a problem. Same car, different decals, with Hendrick power. Personally, as long as he doesn't come in and fuck up Roush, I couldn't care less what he does. The man can drive a racecar, but he's an asshole. With his charity work being the HUGE (and only) exception.

Hendrick? Who's ride is Fatass going to take. Not Gordon's. Not E's. Definitely not JJ's. Mears? maybe.

Sad for Tony. He will win next month. He always does.

$1,000,000.00 to win! No points or long-race strategy to worry about tonight. Checkers or wreckers. I'm sorry, but it sounds tailor-made for Kyle Busch. He's a jerk, but the man can sure drive a racecar!

BTW, they're saying he's going to test-drive a F-1 car after the season is over. The world IS NOT READY for Kyle Busch in Formula 1! LOL! He says he'll stick around Nascar for a while though.

instead of (Blaney, Carpentier, Sorenson)

I am going with:

Travis Kvapil
David Ragan

as my first-time winners this year.
