Perry's voice on Eclipse would be HORRIBLE. 8)

Yep, lol. But like I said, truly happy for those who love ECL-one-P-fifty-three

Perhaps your ears could use some enlightenment? I'm Cryin' and One More are pretty darn guitar heavy. And Perry's shrieking on Lay It Down makes the dogs in my neighborhood howl in pain...

My ears are awesome, thanks. Those may be a little guitar heavy for the average radio Journey fan, but otherwise I'd hardly consider either "heavy" and the guitars on some songs on Eclipse blow both of those right out of the water.

It's not a perfect record as the score of 100% would imply. Even if I overlook them raiding Neal Pert's lyric bag there just aren't 12 great songs on this album. While stellar, the production can't make songs like City Of Hope and Human Feel better than they actually are. I get it that the grade here is on a curve but just like WET, the good stuff isn't so immense as to drown out the lesser tracks.

100%??? Absolutely ludicrous. This is an ok release at best. A 100 rating would mean that EVERY SINGLE SONG is an absolute classic. Errrrm i don't think so. Ridiculous rating :x

Agreed, the title track from Forevermore is becoming one of my favorite songs in a very long time. I can listen to the CD
and not have the urge to skip one song.

Eclipse is much better than Revelation.....I really like about 1/2 of the songs. It's nice to hear AP in his own voice there is no
question that he is a really talented guy.

I would have reversed the scores on these two.

On 2nd listen, I like Tantra, though odd. It turns some weird little corners all through, but I like that.

If Arnel's accent drove you nuts on Revelation, then you may be listening to the wrong music genre in general. I recommend Julie Andrews, or Helen Reddy. Absolutely perfect diction on every note, you'd dig it.

I doubt Arnel has that in him. He's not that kind of singer. Arnel is more a crooner, which reminds me of the comments Rollie made about Perry joining the band on behind the music. I think Arnel sounds fantastic on this album, and wouldn't want him doing the Coverdale thing. Not that it isn't cool, it is! But it's not how Journey does things.

+1

I keep reading people complaining about the accent. I hear it when he speaks, I do not hear it on Revelation.
I've heard it on live recordings, but most of those were either pre-Journey or very early Journey.

There is a whole slew/variety of RnR and pop which does not contain
asian diction/dialect ...one does
not have to revert to Mary Poppins ... ebake is hoping Eclipse is better :?

Don't terminate them, better just send them out to the Wal Marts before Rip has bought all the Eclipse albums in America. Anyway I think the MR server is having a problem now, so maybe let them off with only a stern warning.

You don't have to "get" my opinion. I don't "get" yours either, lol. Just is what it is. Kind of like how some around here don't think Deen sounds powerful enough on Mother, Father yet he IS a good singer. I didn't accuse Arnel's voice as being "thin" at all. He has a beautiful voice. But as a veteran hard rock listener, and this having heavier guitars along the hard rock line, there are places where that beautiful and hard just don't match up to me to being that glittery magic some of you are doing back flips about. But I'm happy for those of you who like it that much.

lol@ Melly all through this thread!! I wish someone would throw their perfect little ears
in a box and send them around the world to all the people who do not hear as perfectly/the exact same
as they...and then we could all feel the same joy~together~as one~before the world ends~on the day
of Bry's Journey experience!! I would like to cuss here!!

Everyone hears different, that's the beauty of music and the personal need your certain taste's take you through the emotion of a song. It's good that people hear differently, that means people are opening up their ears and recognizing, no matter if one didn't like it or the other gave it a 100% or not. Everyone KNOWS this is Neal's record, it was pretty much admitted so speaking from a musician standpoint, it sounds like this CD earned the 100% while Arnel's vocals seemed to be way above average but falls short of Neal's highest peak performance. Can't be blamed, I have a feeling this is going to be a SOLID CD that every fan of Journey should enjoy and be proud of, especially the scrutiny the band has gone through the last couple years. So far, so good. People are reviewing without the chronic bitching throughout all 12 tracks, which is a step in the rightest of directions, haha.

I agree. Arnel sounds fantastic. My fear when they said it was hard rock was, one, Arnel's Journeyesque pure tenor vocals wouldn't appear on the album, and they're there and stunning with also his huskier vocals. And, two, I thought Neal might just shred, but his playing is so melodic. Neal is still my hero.

Love this album. And Chain of Love is as great as I imagined.

Chain Of Love is the winner for a lot of people. I know Journey were saving Tantra to wow everyone later but they blew their wad by letting COL hit youtube, it's a great cut.
