Who is this guy anyway!?
your worst nightmare...... mwwwwwaaahhhh mmwwwaaahhhhh
Just someone who isnt buying into the "over -hype" ..well not until I hear something that tells me this guy is special...
All I hear is the same as before... lots of pre recorded backing vocals, and Deen siinging his balls off in the higher parts ???? to cover up the weakness of the lead singer in those spots.
who the fuck are you??
for cryin out loud neil , they are just 2 folks trying to enjoy music,, simple
Larry..Im tring to project a little bit of balance here!!
Obviously.. no one here is allowed to take any other opinion than JSS and Journey are now the absolute "dogs bollocks"
For me..Journey are stepping down, with every successive vocalist.
Lets get this straight once and for all...its just my opinion..no more than that. Only I can change it.... JSS is a great singer...but not for Journey..dont care if he grew up shitting Journey songs into the potty. with pics of Perry all over his nursery.... its my opinion...as of now... sorry
neil , your opinion is as important as any, but ok , lets take this as a new start to something non related.... someone needs to start a french fry thread,,,, oh ,,oh , that s been done,, maybe something else ,, just for fun,, did nt u have some cool stuff to put up for us,, ??

My 10 year old son was laughing as I was listening to them. He is a big Journey fan and he doesn't get it either. Deen kicks ass at 1:06 which is the highlight of Dead or Alive. Dude, I'm taking you up on your guarantee, it sucked. JSS is a cool MOFO but that shit sounds nothing like Journey. I stand by I've said since seeing them in Indy.
As I see it they have the following options:
1. Get someone in that can cover the sound
2. Bring Deen from behind the drum kit to sing
3. Hang it up and call it a day
4. Have two singers, one to cover the classic stuff and JSS to go forward
5. Call it what it is, Soul SirkUS, and go forward in a new direction
6. Run it into the ground in its current incarnation.
The bottom line, that is not Journey.

AR wrote:Tapegate aside, I actually prefer SA's voice.
Wish he could still sing. He was fine. He hasn't been able to do it for quite some time. Now you have a singer who grew up on the material and cares about it. Believe it!
Matthew wrote:AR wrote:Fine - but SA wasn't the one who created the distinctive or 'signature' Journey vocal sound. He tried to recreate that sound. And JSS doesn't.
My opinion is that SA replicated it decently for a couple of years. Unfortunately he didn't know when to step down. JSS can capture the vibe of the past but be his own man and try to move forward.
That's why most Perry fans respect JSS....

I dont wanna change anyones opinion...Im just giving my own... can people get that into their heads ... please!!
I take it that "alternative" opinions are still allowed here?? ..and I cerainly wouldnt allow anyone elses opinion to spoil my enjoyment of anything!
AR wrote:I look at things this way. A LOT of people slammed Augeri for being a Perry clone. JSS is not that at all. Outstanding vocalist with his own style. Think of this like Van Halen going from Roth to Hagar. Only VH started ignoring their back catalog. No worries with Journey, as the hits will still be played.
Steve Perry was the best, but is retired. Augeri did well for awhile, but can't do it anymore. Now you have an incredibly talented singer, bringing new life to the material. Tired moldy oldies like LTS and Lights have a new energy to them. Fucking Edge of the Blade just became my favorite song, and I never used to give it a second thought.![]()
Dissenting opinions are fine, I'm just casting my vote towards this version of Journey with a harder edge. They kicked Def Leppard's ass last weekend. Might as well have had tumbleweeds blowing across the stage during their set. That's something you couldn't say at the beginning of the tour with Augeri struggling like he was.

You are so right AR! Couldn't have said it better myself. Those oldies were getting tired sounding the last few times I saw them. Now they are crazy on FIRE. By the way, How was Van Halen able to ignore their past catalog while drawing in the crowds with mostly new stuff? That was quite a feat. Wish Journey could do that with JSS.

Journey Leave out most of the oldies? You have gotta be fuckin jokin. They would be playing to a couple of hundred people.

Yup. His tone is definitely more aggressive. A good friend of mine who has seen Journey with us a bunch of times always says that Neal always plays the same fast stuff and doesn't slow down enough. The problem was that when we saw them live, the fast stuff was always sounding like mush lost in the mix. This year you can clearly hear the individual notes both on the boots and in person. A change for the better if you ask me.

I'm wondering if It's his new amps. They sound much better.

During the guitar melody, can anyone hear the song from Top Gun that stole the sound from AWYWI. I can. At 1:53 to about 2:19, if you listen to Neal play the axe, and slow it down, there was definitely a rip off. I am not sure what band did the song, but it's in Top Gun and very prominent too.

Why'd the crowd suck, they didn't get into it??Rockin'Deano wrote:Yeah, actually AC was just ok. The band was great, crowd sucked, but Boston was 10 times better.
