Rockers and mid-tempos can also be sentimental but not syrupy I guess.

Red - can I remind you that I wasn't the one complaining about Journey being too syrupy?

Weren't you the one who made reference to coming out of the closet earlier? You and Matt are sounding worse than Hots and Properry today.

And this from the man who thinks Augeri is a tough guy!

Never said that, just that he was more of a rocker.

Sure.
Can I remind you that you were justifying that syrupiness by suggesting that's mostly all they did?

NMT- his influences might have come from rock rather than R n B - but these influnces didn't seem to translate into Augeri's voice or on-stage presence. The guy was too beige and affable to be a true rocker.

You've zeroed in on my use of "high sentimentality" in that post and ignored the other word I used to describe the band...which was "bombastic".

Also - I don't need to "justify" the syrup. I love the ballads just as much as the mid-tempo and fast-paced tracks.

Pretty much how I feel too, enjoy all components of the band. But call me shallow but alot of it rides on having a great frontman. Perry is one of a kind! Have to admit.....having a passionate, kickass frontman again in JSS is what brought me back around to Journey.

And I wrote (implying) that I credited this to Schon and Cain's staying with the tried and true (with some exceptions). It was a detriment to SA's voice as well as to his forging his own identity to the extent he could have.

PS, frfksakes i'll straighten you out then:
NoMota made the point that they're more a rock band and he preferred augri's rockier side.
Matt made the point that they were more a weepy syrupy band, and that we can't embrace jrny w/out acknowledging that and I rebutted that they recorded way more rock than ballads, and had more non ballad hits than ballad hits.

Er...not quite....NMT was complaining about Journey being too "syrupy" with Perry...and I said that Journey were prone to high sentimentality with or without him.

thanks for the lowdown red13

prone to high sentimentality = Friga (Perry learned it from him, lol)

And while they may have recorded more non ballads, they are known by most of the masses for their ballads, or near ballads (WCN, STR, IBAWOY, etc, were pretty slow, even DSB was on the edge). I think that is one of the reasons Journey is not thought of as "cool" – the biggest nail being their biggest hit of all, which is their sappiest song of all. Most people are not aware of all of the great rockers except maybe AWYWI and SW.

Anyway, as long a Friga is writing, they will be prone to sentimentality, imo. Good or bad, depends on the song I guess.

Nah, bone's been pretty good with that lately. And in reality the only personal insult was my menopause joke on stix"man" and Matt, Nig and NoMota going roundrobin on the manhood jokes.

All in all, not censor worthy given the brilliance and insight of the whole discourse.

Well, hell what's there to talk about for loons?

Still another sighting of perry "writing" not singing (and if he's such an accomplished writer why did everyone but Abitaman cowrite Street Talk and FTLOSM?)

Talking about what it would sound like in that room where perry and Bettancourt playback by themselves over and over what they wrote together?

Say, "Ah, even if they won't let anyone not portuguese and named Nuno or perry hear it, I'm just happy STEVE did something to make him happy"

It'd be like a 1-page thread.

Sorry to go back OT, lol, but it's hard not to be encouraged by all of the recent news of SP. Esp this writing jaunt, and the vocal training.

I won't be surprised if doesn't jump back into the business, but at least he's dipping his toes in a little.

I'd be ecstatic if he’d just put out a song or two now and then through the internet.

Well come on man.
Bound to end bad either way for p.

In their primes, perry was so skinny if he had buck teeth Augeri would turn him over and use him as a rake.

Now, chipmunk cheeks would just get completely housed.

It's science and genetics really.
