She couldn't believe the similarities and nuances, and to my surprise and delight, is really interested in checking out more of Sam...and seeing Perry continue on the soulful road. If Perry does decide to continue on with his career, that's the direction that I really hope to see. Last week's performance is proof that the soulful road is where he can be the most creative, and like others have said, build an even stronger fan base. He can still have fun revisiting some of his songs from the past, adding a soulful and bluesy feel like he did with LTS, without having to strive for the soaring high notes. He's set the creative bar and paved the road already for the Journey material, and Arnel is doing the best job possible keeping that signature sound alive. If he does ever have the itch to revisit Journey, my wish would be to see it done realistically to match his current vocal styles...unplugged with Neal on acoustic guitar and Smith on percussions.

Compare it to Steve's rendition, and it really shows what a great singer like Steve can do for a song. The Eels version is good. It is a nice musical arrangement, and the lyrics are thoughtful and emotional. But Steve just makes it ooze with heartfelt pain and emotion. Unbelievable how good that man can interpret a song after doing nothing all these years.

Haha.... I thought for sure SP must be ad-lipping (as he in the past like to do.. always changing up on songs) in the YT video (the one with over 1M views). This is a real song... but who is The Eels? Never heard of them ...are they a regional Band?

Well, I guess it's time to troll every one of The Eels tour dates for Steve Perry videosOr bite the bullet and actually go to a show. It seems like Perry has unofficially joined The Eels. Who needs Journey?
It looks like The Eels will perform in San Francisco at the Palace of Fine Arts Theater on June 10th. Will Steve Perry come so close to his former stomping grounds? He'll be six months late for Neal's wedding. But as they say, "Better late than never".
Here's the video- "It's A Motherf!@#$er, Only Sixteen, Open Arms, Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'". I'm not familiar with "Only Sixteen" was that a solo song or was it from Journey?

Do his solo thing, as it was, more R&B, whatever... but he should just leave the Journey renditions for live shows. Why record what's been done already?
I mean seriously, after waiting THIS LONG for the guy to SING, to have him do stuff that we've already heard a million times... for me, that'd be a HUGE letdown. Let's hear all this stuff he's been working on for the last 20 years. Let's hear the Nuno Bentencourt stuff. DOES ANYONE HAVE THAT STUFF?? - I would LOVE to hear THAT.

Video footage of Perry singing Journey oldies made its way to YouTube, and perhaps spark the 19 percent gain for "Greatest Hits" (up to 6,000 for the week). It jumps from No. 62 to No. 46.

Is anybody here actually planning on going to an Eels concert? There's a couple of people on tumblr who are going to the Seattle and San Francisco shows. Tumblr is a hot bed of young Journey/Steve Perry fans. They are fine, fine loons in the making. The Eels aren't coming to a concert venue near me. But would anyone else here go?
