I am so sorry to read of your situation. I wish I could do something to alleviate your pain. I too am frustrated with the system. As I stated earlier I'm being dicked around for the care of Trevor after his birth. He is facing three heart surgeries. Here I am part of the insured with the best possible team of doctors ready to give my baby a fighting chance at life and there is an issue with the referral. I too am tired. The amount deducted from my salary for health insurance is close to 500 monthly, a lot of good it does when the care available is being denied. Of course I am fighting this, but I tell ya, the fight is taking a lot of my spirit.

You focus on those babies that have chosen you to bring them into this world - just good thoughts - do not let the stress of the future rob you of this time to make sure they know they are loved and nurture them and give them strength and Trevor might fool you and the docs.

Dealing with the healthcare system (while working full-time) keeps my blood moving and has become something to live for - well, that and Steve Perry (that ought to piss someone off) hehehehe

Well Cat, here is an example of this "flawless" US health care system.

Lula calls from the Dr office and we cannot have the kids at the hospital we want and frankly they need to be born in. Nope. All the heart specialists are there as are our regular doctors. Trvor's life is at stake, but nope, can't have the kids there...gotta be UCLA or another hospital.

So fucking stupid. Now Lula is depressed and sad. real healthy for the babies. All in the name of money.

Obviously our Health Service is totally different here, but why won't they let you go to the hospital where the doctors Trevor needs are? What reason have they given you?

Well now I have to consider whether to pay the extra costs so my boy doesn't have to attend gov't schools that I'm forced to pay for regardless. Luckily he's only 4 months old and I have a few years to save up Just be thankful you're not forced to see a specific doctor you have no faith in through gov't health care!!!!

Group insurance policies are negotiated by group.--- so even tho American Airlines, my employer, GM (these are just examples) may all offer group insurance with the "OZ Over the Rainbow" insurance company, the benefits are completely different and administration of those benefits are completely different. The determing factor is how much the employer has to pay. My monthly payroll deduction doubled this year - funny - my salary didn't

And to top it off, when the contracts are renegotiated, the employer may disallow some affiliations - just as my employer did this year. So now, even tho all of my specialists are at the same hosp, and all of my procedures have been done there, and I have been hospitalized there 4 times this year- I can no longer go there.

Oh and I forgot, the hospital and my employer are part of the same company.

My employer too. My deduction didn't double, but it went up substantially. I got a 1.5% pay increase this year. Didn't even cover the cost of living increase.

That insurance crap is just awful. The changes that get made (that Cat referred to) don't allow for continuity of care or for doctors/patients to make the best decisions for their care. It doesn't seem right.

I don't understand how you feel that the quality of health care will improve with a universal health care system. I don't think it is acceptable that your DME company has times when they can't delivery your O2 for two days but how do you feel that a universal health care system will solve that problem?

You seem to be missing the point, universal health care does not equal improved quality of health care. You get what you pay for. And I do not mean that those people that have health insurance get a higher standard of care, I mean that if a universal health care system is adopted, health care costs will be so controlled that only bare minimum care will be given. (I think I've already covered this.)

Actually NJT I truly believe that is you who are missing the point. And in many countries where there is universal health care, patients receive the best care available - not just a bare minimum. I have friends in England and in Canada that receive excellent health care.

There is a possible treatment for my disease in study now at St. Michael's in Toronto - it will be completed in November and available to patients in Canada possibly by June of next year - I just have to hold on and outrun a heart lung transplant. If it is approved, then I have a chance - there is possibility of approval of the procedure by the FDA due to "orphan" status.

A "get what you pay for" system should not completely eliminate people who are simply the working poor.

No a universal healthcare system will probably not make my DME more efficient - hell you can throw all the money you want at idiots and it doesn't make them any smarter. However, I would have more options available.

Insurance companies call the shots now - even as to how long a patient gets in the hospital. Many times patients are discharged early just to cut costs.

I am pissed because I have worked all of my life ....... and even if Steve Perry himself announced a reunion tour with Journey next year, I probably will not be here to see it.

and I am just plain tired.

I don't know you and I don't really know each other here, but when I read this, my heart sure goes out to you, I'm so very sorry for all you are having to endure with your health problems. The struggles of having to try to get good health care, and dealing with insurance companies that want to save money rather than do what is in the best interest of the patient medically.

It has got to be REAL hard for you! I'll be sure to keep you in my prayers that things change for the better for you regarding your health.
